Trouble embedding widget code into custom module

I'm currently trying to embed code for a calendar widget into a custom module to run in the right sidebar (CitySpark calendar). It worked immediately when plugged into a WordPress site I also manage, but Joomla appears to be quite a bit more complicated.

When I place the code during module creation, it's modified any time I navigate away and return to view it. The preview displays absolutely nothing, and needless to say nothing appears on the site when I try publishing.

Has anyone else encountered this sort of issue before? Any advice would be greatly appreciated, thanks!

Is ical available from CitySpark?

I have used the Jevents Extension and added Google as remote calendar.
