Should we migrate to Joomla from WordPress?

Post by Edward Matthew » Mon Jul 24, 2023 11:56 am

We're exploring options to make our website multilingual. [ redacted ]
Right now, we use WordPress, which would require installing a translation plugin. Joomla has built-in multilingual support, so it may be easier, without needing extra plugins.

We have two options:

1- Stick with WordPress and integrate a translation plugin. This would need a developer to implement properly.

2-Migrate the site to Joomla for simpler multilingual functionality.
However, moving to Joomla has some drawbacks (for non developers). Our WordPress site uses several key plugins for SEO, speed optimization, etc. As beginners with Joomla, recreating this plugin or extension functionality could be challenging.

What does everyone think we should prioritize? Ease of translation or retaining our current WordPress capabilities? Does anyone have experience going multilingual on either platform? We'd love to hear your insights on the pros and cons of each option. Our main goal is finding the fastest way to get a multilingual site up and running without compromising features. Please share your recommendations on the best path forward.

P.S: We have already purchase the license of a renowned translation plugin but still considering the Joomla option.

Any CMS has its own specifics. I think the goals and tasks of a website should determine the choice of CMS.
For example, for an online store, I would choose... Prestashop. Not Joomla, not Wordpress. ;)

You're absolutely right that the choice of CMS should align with the specific goals of the website.

Are you considering automatic or manual translation? The Joomla language override is always an option. 8)

What is your translation target? Is it limited to Joomla, or does it include content/articles as well? ???

I believe that utilizing Joomla's multilingual capabilities, SEO, or optimization doesn't require developer expertise, but rather a good understanding of Joomla itself. ;)

It seems that all the features you've mentioned are inherently available in Joomla 5. 8)

I would recommend installing it and exploring its features to meet your needs. :pop
