J4.4 Smart Search and Weblinks
Having just gotten the site search working after reading through this forum and discovering that J4 uses Smart Search I am now noticing that one of the checkboxes for WHAT/WHERE to search is showing this (see graphic for visual)
PLG_SEARCH_WEBLINKS_WEBLINKS
instead of Weblinks
I have verified the module is installed, current, and appears to be working since disabling it causes Smart Search to STOP working altogether.
I have all the identified web links extensions enabled.
Suggestion? Recommendations?
BJ

Re: J4.4 Smart Search and Weblinks
Ideas as to where I should start looking for it? Since Smart Search is a part of the initial install/upgrade I really have no idea where to start looking.

Weblinks was removed from the Core a long time ago. You find it in the JED.

Following your advice - I pulled the Joomla! Weblinks 4.3.1 Package and "reinstalled" it.Per Yngve Berg wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2024 6:39 amWeblinks was removed from the Core a long time ago. You find it in the JED.
The problem remains.
Other suggestions?

Enable Debug and Language Debug in Global Configuration. See what Language Files that are not loaded.
The file should belong to the Finder Weblinks Plugin.

I enabled the Debug as directed.Per Yngve Berg wrote: ↑Sat Apr 20, 2024 1:54 pmEnable Debug and Language Debug in Global Configuration. See what Language Files that are not loaded.

You directed me "See what Language Files that are not loaded." WHERE is this done?
Under the Manage>Languages I have English (United Kingdom)
Under the Manage>Content Languages I have English (UK) and German (DE)
Within Manage>Plugins I checked all of the Web Links PlugIns
Button - Web Links
Smart Search - Web Links
Search - Web Links
System - Web Links
They do not show what you are asking.
I looked at both Links and Categories under Components > Weblinks and found nothing.
I looked at Content > Site Modules > Web Links and found nothing
The Search page now shows **Categories** **Contacts** **Articles** **News Feeds** ??**Images**?? **Tags** ??PLG_SEARCH_WEBLINKS_WEBLINKS??

Re: J4.4 Smart Search and Weblinks
After some sleuthing around in the system files on the server with a terminal program I located
<joomla dir>/plugins/search/weblinks/language/en-GB which contains
en-GB.plg_search_weblinks.ini
This file contains
PLG_SEARCH_WEBLINKS="Search - Web Links"
PLG_SEARCH_WEBLINKS_FIELD_SEARCHLIMIT_DESC="Number of search items to return."
PLG_SEARCH_WEBLINKS_FIELD_SEARCHLIMIT_LABEL="Search Limit"
PLG_SEARCH_WEBLINKS_WEBLINKS="Web Links"
PLG_SEARCH_WEBLINKS_XML_DESCRIPTION="Enables searching of Web Links Component."
So the language file APPEARS to be accurate but apparently is not being accessed or called (used/stored) correctly.
So I am at a loss.

Re: J4.4 Smart Search and Weblinks
You are using the wrong Search. It should be Finder. Uninstall all Components and Plugin relating to Search.

Please understand that within reason I feel confident in most tasks dealing with Joomla but I only recently got the site updated to 4.4 from 3.09. I had a booger of a time doing that. I have managed to get the Cassiopeia to display a fair replica of the original site which had been using an entirely different framework (EF4).
It was while verifying the installed modules that I discovered what we have been discussing and I truly appreciate your help and assistance.
Now, you have me confused. Are you saying that
1. I need to uninstall Smart Search -OR- Weblinks 4.3.1 Package
OR
2. That I need to locate "Finder" and install it? If Finder is already installed HOW do I access it?
Apologies for my ignorance BUT your guidance has been a God Send and I really do not want you to get frustrated with my stupidity but I simply do not understand what you are telling me.

1. None of them.
2. com_finder is Smart Search
com_search is old search from J3
Uninstall com_search and plg_search_weblinks
2. com_finder is Smart Search
com_search is old search from J3
Uninstall com_search and plg_search_weblinks

Rather than uninstall, I disabled the plugins and the module for SEARCH. HOWEVER when I disabled the package "pkg_search" the entire search function stopped working. Re-enabling and the search function returned.
In an effort to comply with your directions I renamed the components/com_search directory (effectively removing the component) and again the search module stopped working. Returned the directory to its original name.
I have attached a pdf of the currently available extensions relating to SEARCH so that you can see the enabled and disabled extensions.

Replace Search Module with the Finder Module.

First and foremost - THANK YOU for your time, your patience and understanding.
I have FINALLY figured it out. It was as you kept pointing out the com_search module (and my stupidity). Sometimes I can't see the forest for the trees.
I located the "Smart Search quickstart guide" https://docs.joomla.org/Smart_Search_quickstart_guide within the Joomla documentation which had I done so sooner, I wouldn't have wasted your time. After reading the guide, the realization hit that
1. I had NOT set up the Smart Search module correctly. YES it was being shown and while it was seemingly working, the module was conflicting, as you were saying, with the com_search module which was appearing on the SAME search page. What I thought I was calling correctly was WRONG.
2. After setting up the Smart Search module, creating the menu item and display page I was finally able to disable the root cause of the original problem - the com_search package, to include the modules, plug-ins, and components.
3. The Smart Search DOES now work (I am assuming properly) with com_search out of the picture. The error page that had plagued my progress is gone and the search is far far faster than it had been.
Again thank you for your time and patience.
