In the home dashbooard, under notifications I see these items (unknown extensions, unknown requests & help, error on checking overrides) in red: I guess this is related...

The first error in the error log suggests there is something wrong with the sitemapfaster extension - you should disable that for now.

The second error suggests there may be something wrong with the Joomla update sites - there is a partial url. Have a look at the list of Update Sites for anything unusual.

I turned off the sitemapfaster extension, but that didn't change anything.

I found the url 'http://www.acti (from http://www.actiaweb.com/activ/phocadown ... nifest.xml)
in the updater for sitemapfaster, so I disabled that updater.
and that has got the notifications working properly now:

But I still get the JSON data: HTTP 500 error on the Joomla pre-update page.

Look at System / Update Sites - do you have anything with a URL containing www.acti? If so, try disabling those update sites. What does that do?

Yes, there is one site with that URL, but I have already disabled it as I said in my Wed Mar 13, 2024 4:37 pm post above. It got the notifications working properly after disabling it.

Looks like I misread your last error report - there is still a www.acti extension triggering a compatibility check failure. You probably need to disable all extensions from that source.

Thanks, but there's only the 'sitemap faster' extension with that actiaweb.com address, and that is disabled.

I checked in the database and there is only one instance of http://www.actiaweb.com/activ/phocadown ... nifest.xml which is the row with the 'sitempas faster' extension update site address. There's nothing else referring to that in the database.

Can you have a look in your #__update_sites table for anything that looks odd - specifically a location containing www.acti... Any duplications by name?

When I step through the code with the debugger, on the Home Dashboard load page I see this being passed to the function where you error occurs:

Yes, unfortunately that's right. There is an "Error: Class JFactory not found" from the Rt-Interstellar template.
It would be good to know either way what Rockethteme intend to do - all my clients templates are from them!
I'm just waiting, but will have to jump to other templates if nothing happens soon.
