Ok, I'll put that on my "check this works as advertised" list and try to get a nice preview tutorial done about it this month.

I think registration is quite busted at the moment. It hasn't really been touched much since it was upgraded early this year (on the frontend that is - the backend user manager should be in quite good shape now).

Hallo Andrew,

I saw this :
http://groups.google.com/group/joomla-d ... 9bcb1abcfd

It seems that the com_plugin is not refactored yet. Could it be, this is the cause of error I got as I tried to install Joomfish ? Err msg : "No plugins table."
If this is the case, after refoctoring the com_plugin, we can use the Joomfish component ?

Or the component must be edited to move it to 'extensions' table ?

Thanks.
Best Regards,
- pedma -

No, that's not it. Joomfish must be looking for the jos_plugins table - which doesn't exist anymore.

Many thanks Andrew.

Hope Alex, Ivo & friends applied the component for J1.6 soon :)

Thanks.

The inbuilt Sef url function in joomla 1.5 is not good. We need to use SEF components like sh404sef or others. Can we expect a good internal SEO/SEF system in joomla 1.6

Following features I would like to see in joomla 1.6 (from the point of view of a blogger)
-tagging of articles
-Click on Authors name lead to a page where all the articles written by the author on whom the reader clicked can be seen
-Ability to see month wise, week wise, year wise that how many articles published during particular period -this can be filtered using author name or categories or sections

Lastly if this is not the right place to give the suggestions then please move this thread.

As your host if they have a thing called "mbstring" supported in their PHP build (and make sure it's PHP 5.2+).

my php is

PHP Version 5.2.10

Can you be a little more specific on what features you want to see? There is already a redirect capability in 1.6 (hopefully will be able to do a showcase blog on that next week).

Tagging won't be going into 1.6 as far as I'm aware, though 1.6 will make tagging solutions for third-party devs a breeze to implement.

Regarding authors, I can see a module for "other articles by this author" being useful, with an optional "see all" link. Maybe that marries with a contact page? Can't promise anything and it could easily be picked up by 3PD's anyway, but we'll see what we can do.

A calendar centric view would be nice but I can't see it shipping in 1.6.0 unless you can find a volunteer to write build it :)

Yes, that's ok, but has it been compiled to support mbstring?

There is a field in com_contact to list articles by the linked user, so choose the right parameters and you can have a nice author page.

If a dev is doing things the right way, and is truly running on the native 1.5 API then they will be in a good place and have the least amount of change. Devs that still run on legacy mode will not work at all. Devs that are in the middle and do things their own way are (unfortunately) on their own. I've yet to look at my own extension but as soon as I do I'll have a good idea what advice to give to Devs. JXtended (my extensions company) will be using like a forward compatibility plugin and we'll make that available for anyone that wants to use it.

Well...

Code:
$lang =& JFactory::getLanguage();
$backlang = $lang->getBackwardLang();

getBackwardLang() does not exist (it should be available in 1.5+ API)

As far as i can remember myself, getBackwardLang() is (was) for the long outdated J.1.0.x
Because only one major release back(ward), this should not be supported anymore in J.1.6

You can't easily (not without a 3rd-party extension). That's the point of doing 1.6 ;)

The only way is to get the 1.6 code, check where it is located and then try to implement it in 1.5. This is harder than it sounds, and cannot be done with some simple copy/paste.

As Andrew said,

It must be using the 3rd party extensions, look at http://extensions.joomla.org/ , there are some for J1.5 like : JaclPlus, Juga, NoIX etc ...

BUT ... it's can NOT be compare with J1.6 ACL ... J1.6 ACL is veryyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy powerfull ... :)

Hey all - 1.6 Alpha 2 - LOOKING good thus far... Where do you point out issues with it so they can be fixed, not to put down to to hopefully help speedup the process... This is going to be a very power packed version I can see already.

Anyway - If someone could let me know - I would love to help in the bug finding process - and again - You guys are awesome!!!

Allen

Andrew, thank you for a quick response. And thank you for making time to put together article for GroupA access.

@dhananjay1. You have been answered correctly in two threads (this among them), so quit asking the same question over and over again.

The Redirect component should be working as of the next nightly build (not sure when they are rebuilt). Here's a quick preview though:

Redirect component

Great feature, but please could you give a choice to select the destination URL from menu item dropdown list or entering a custom URL manually?

You can already add a custom URL manually.

Yes, sorry if I wasn't so clear on this. I just ment that in addition to entering URL manually you would have a menu item dropdown list, so it would be more easy to select destination URL if you have already menu item for it.

Probably could be done (not for Beta though - still a bit to clean up in the admin components yet).
