Yes plugins are in the database
Sorry, Sir/Madam, but respectfully they were not there in the list in my database; modules, components, users, finder_links_terms~ all were, but no plugins. (In fact now after going back to 3.5.1 there still is not a plugin in that list.)

I went back to 3.5.1 because the particular plugin I need for security is not yet updated to v3.6.0.

I tried disabling the Two-Factor Authentication on another website with 3.5.1, doing the Joomla update to 3.6.0, disabling the Installer for the Web and enabling both the Installer and the Two-Factor again. This gave the same freeze on the other website as well upon logoff and re-login. (The name of the Plugin, at the point after the update, was converted to ALL CAPS in the list of plugins in the backend.)

Plugins can be found in #__extensions, just like all other types (components/templates/languages/packages/modules)
You are confusing tables with rows in those tables. The plugins are rows in the table #__extensions.

BTW there shouldn't be a table #__components !
Issue with migrating? Include logs/joomla_update.php in your report!
Blank screen? Verify pagesource for HTML code (javascript error)
Installation failing on populating database? Install with set_time_limit(0)
Document your customizations!

Thank you for the tips on how to find the plugins in the database tables.

By using the parked website in the subdirectory of the first I was able to determine that Two-Factor Authentication plugin is not 3.6.0 compatible by disabling it prior to the upgrade, upgrading and then re-enabling it. Until ReadyBytes comes out with their own upgrade, I am at 3.5.1.

What do you mean 'ReadyBytes' ? The two-factor plugin is a Joomla plugin. The chances are that you are not entering and saving the number (in the Joomla user account) before the time out. Once you generate the code you only have a few seconds to enter it (in the Joomla user account) and save it.

Suggest you disable the plugin
Use the new feature in the Joomla update component to install the update. Download the https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/re ... ackage.zip and upload install via the Joomla update component. Then activate the two-factor plugin and regenerate the code for a test user account not your admin account ... that way you can keep trying without locking yourself out of admin.

Team-ReadyBytes in India are the group that are in the credits on the login screen of the plugin when entering the number from Google. I am assuming they are the group that developed the plugin.

Thank you for your assistance!

The plugin doesn't have a login screen. Perhaps you mean the user login screen ? If so then you are probably using a third party Template. I see you have a 'solved' m\rk on your posts so looks like you fixed it.

Trying to move this up to the top of the list for every new article I write is not feasible. I have now done it once but it has taken me ages. So I feel this problem needs to be fixed. If you need some help sorting this out I would be very happy to be a tame tester for the developers.
I totally understand that my workaround is not a solution for such amount of articles.
Your issue is known and being discussed: https://github.com/joomla/joomla-cms/issues/11103
I just checked and the "featured article" ordering problem is also present when I install a fresh Joomla 3.6 site, so a solution should not only concern existing sites, like I've read somewhere else. I hope a solution will be found soon, it messes up the work flow.

After upgrade, I cannot use all admin buttons such as Save, Save & Close, Save & New, Close, Cancel and it always direct to homepage for Article and Module if containing data but I can save if blank.

It would be great if could advise to fix this.

I am another user who can't upgrade to 3.6.0 because of the featured article problem mentioned above

I have a created a vanilla installation of 3.5.1 and 3.6.0 under Wamp running a choice of PHP 5.6.19 and 7.0.4 and have looked at results under both versions of PHP. Only Joomla has been installed. No extensions have been installed

In each case I have created two Featured Articles.

Under 3.5.1 the Ordering column appears. It does not appear under 3.6.0

See the attached images which highlight the difference between the two versions

I am not a programmer, but I have been running a multipage website for over three years and have regularly updated Joomla without problems I can't overcome. I always test new versions of Joomla on my development site.

Often an outdated extension has caused a problem which I have always been able to resolve before the I am happy to update the live site, but in this case the problem is apparent without any extensions.

Am I doing something wrong or is this a problem that will be solved in 3.6.1?

Hi,
I received from ReadyBytes, India an updated plugin for Two-Factor Authentication. It has worked fine to remedy the lock-out when upgrading to 3.6.0.
There was an issue with the Joomla Installer in not finding a language .ini file on installation of the .zip file, but it seems to provide no functional issues with the plugin.

All of this back-and-forth regarding a crucial issue is not helpful. I respect the hard work of the joomla coders, I also think users have a reasonable expectation that major issues like ordering would be addressed. Perhaps this problem with featured articles only affects a subset of users on a specific configuration of web serving software. However, do not expect people to not have feelings about having an unusable website. The only advice given on this forum that has a shred of use is the idea of using the back up file. I intend to contact my service provider to see if they would do that for me.

I think there needs to be a section on the download page for people to give early feedback on the new version of joomla because I definitely would have like to been warned of the possibility the the featured article ordering function would be for all practical purposes disabled for those that had more than one page of articles active on the site.

I've been sensitized to up-dating joomla versions as soon as they are available for use because my sites have been hacked because of old scripts. I also saw haranging responses to users reporting the same thing and being berated by others that they "should have upgraded sooner". Then you get this situation and the software update disables ESSENTIAL functions for the site and still the people having problems get berated. There is no place for that on any forum. Also the people with code suggestions never say where to put the code, so that is useless for advanced beginners.

However, after writing the above paragraphs I remembered that the number of articles displayed in joomla varies by the settings you can adjust. So it is possible to change it to 10 then drag your article to the top. If you do it just right, it is one long drag, but is slow, however it works. Then change the number of articles to a higher number displayed and drag to the top of the list and try again with a different number. I started with 10 articles, then increased to 20, so I could find my article 1/2 way down the list and drag to the top, then increase to 50 and drag to the top, then to 100. I have about 100 articles so in 5 drags I was able to re-order. A nuisance to be sure, but it works.

I hope we get a patch to fix this soon. I liked being able to type in a number. It sure was easier than dragging articles around. If we could have both methods, that would be good. Please share any techniques to get around this problem and be calm. Not knowing something isn't a problem, thinking everyone else should know what you know is if you are mean about it.

There certainly used to be a section where the team listed any found issues after the release. I'm not sure they exist any more, but here's one from an old release:

https://docs.joomla.org/Category:Version_3.4.8_FAQ

Certainly, unless it's a major security issues, I always wait about a week before updating Joomla sites because of issues that are found after the release. I also appreciate it's impossible to track all these down until people start updating their websites.

Sorry but we release RC1/RC2/Beta/etc before we release "Stable" and these versions are public and announced for people to test. So if you do not test these versions and do not comment on possible 'bugs' (or problems with changes we introduce) on the issue tracker (https://issues.joomla.org) it is fully your responsibility so do not blame 'us' (JBS and our coders). Joomla is a community driven project and we all need to contribute so test before final releases are out and comment on issues you experience. It will benefit you and the community in total so all is good coming from those test ....

Not to mention that for those who aren't git savvy that right on https://developer.joomla.org/ there's a link to nightly builds that you can download and either install a fresh site from or upgrade a testing site to. With an open development process, feedback is welcome from any level of user at any point in time; you don't need to wait for a specific "early testing" period to start testing.

Joomla 3.6.1 has not been announced on this forum yet - is there any reason?

Also guys who are "strong" on this Joomla forum, please do not ridicule newcomers and please do not blame them for "not knowing the rules" the way you did with "fidelityrevo" who was trying to explain a problem he's having. The easiest thing in the world is to ridicule others when you have more knowledge than them, but what does that really prove? And why do you feel the urge to do that? Does it make you feel smart? Everybody here thinks you are smart (whether you really are smart or not) so you have nothing to prove in that area.

I know that there are some culture barriers here but there must be some general easy to follow etiquette that we can all follow when treating people on this forum. Welcoming a new user of Joomla by telling him that he should contribute to Joomla or else keep his mouth shut is not, IMHO, the right way to do things.

It is this type of attitude that is counterproductive to Joomla. How can people on this forum not understand that every single Joomla user is very important and the bigger the userbase is, the bigger Joomla is. Technology is very important and Joomla's technology is top notch - there's no argue about this point - but what is more important than technology, for users, is the human touch, which is us.

Hi,

Just so I understand what I need to do now, please can someone explain the situation for me. I have 2 sites with many many featured articles and I need new featured articles to appear at the top of the list automatically and continue to display at the top on the front page of the sites automatically.

I upgraded to 3.6.0 when it came out and have now reverted to 3.5.1.

My first question is does 3.6.1 provide the behaviour I require that went missing in 3.6.0? If yes, great. If no, do I have to stick with 3.5.1?

Next. If I do have to upgrade to 3.6.1 what are the steps I should follow and if possible, please can you describe the steps in a short "idiots guide".

Any help on this issue would be really very much appreciated.

Thanks,
John

J 3.6.1 langauge associations not work

Post by darb » Thu Aug 04, 2016 9:56 am

Anyone having problem with the languages associations that disappear after the upgrade from J 3.6.0 and J 3.6.1?

The associations doesn't work for multi-site menu items. I downgraded and now it works as it should for Joomla 3.6.0 but not for Joomla 3.6.1. I see other have problem with this too http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f ... 4#p3418564.

( And the plg System - Language Filter for "Language Selection for new Visitors" --> yes doesnt work after the upgrade either. The language filter doesnt work and set correct langauge by browser setting. It goes to main English even you have other language in your browser. This work before with J 3.6.0 )

Update: This work though after I tested this after also doing a Akeeba backup restore for this J 3.6.1 version.

And the Joomla upgrade message comes in French even my site main language is English.

Language switcher Falang Joomla! 3.6.1

Post by AGRfoto » Thu Aug 04, 2016 12:33 pm

My original Falang post is here http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?p ... 4#p3418564

Aparently there is a Joomla 3.6.2 fix coming which may solve issues with language associations.
Meanwhile I have rolled back to 3.6.0 which works fine for the languages.

You may also try replacing the plugins/system/languagefilter/languagefilter.php with the equivalent file from the 3.5.1 version.

Also make sure you are not using a PHP version lower than 5.7.
