We are aware that some links will need to be changed but we wanted to get this out there for the community as fast as we possibly could!

Waiting for perfection would have taken too long.  There are still many things we want to do and this can be considered a well put together work in progress.  Special thanks to all the people that helped put this together.  I greatly appreciate it!

Louis

Very nice work well done guys  8)

A question I received an email asking:

What is/are the name(s) of your current project(s)?
What is your user name/email address on Forge?
Do you want your project migrated to the new Forge?

from Antonie de Wilde
Of which I answered yes I do want my project migrated.

Would I be better of just starting a new account or wait for confirmation that it has been moved?

Tonie will reply to your email when he can :)

You can, in the meantime, register on the new JoomlaCode site as a user.

This is going to be a great place for developers to come and work. Combine the new forge with the Joomla! Extensions Directory and open source developers have everything they need to build and distribute their work to an already enormous end user base. It's like a giant geek magnet!

Love the new design. Very "web 2.0" looking - but with color and character, not like everything else and not all washed out. I like it. The tabs are great. I like the satin-y look on the green title area. Even the ads look tasteful!

Thank you all, again and again, for your unwavering dedication to the cause.

Wonderful! Great work and great template, too!

Only one doubt is about the word snippet as I see this word in other CMSs but I don't see other useful words.

I see moreover an aesthetic bug in http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/ as there is no final ) character where describing list.

Sorry but there is another aspect to point out in the new forge, the use of the language.

I like to see sites in a mother tongue of mine, but I dislike to see an automatic language system in the forge. I like to see for our site to see options for selecting a language. But the language IMHO has to be the common standard english, the first language. I see and study CMSs, codes and so on in english!

Moreover there is an italian translation a bit ridicolous, what's for "Informatori dello sviluppatore" or "Classificatore" and many more... if you think to translate into other languages you have to use the best translation and it isn't easy as we can imagine.

Moreover if a guy / gal from all over the world has to describe a part of the site... how can I do that? I have to manage a stupid translation into english towards another unknown language, I presume...  :-\

This is only an opinion based on experience within other past CMSs and so pls avoid a babel tower.

Well done by all involved.
Its so great to see that whenever the Joomla! project face a problem, like the one with the old forge, its being dealt with and always turns out to the better with an improved solution.
Thumbs up  :)

nice new environment!

however:
- email-adresses of users show in profile! There is no way  in "my account" to undo this.
- the categories of snippets have no relation to the snippets of 3rd party developers-code.
- after submitting a snippet, you can not edit or delete it.
- one can not submit a snippet without a selecting a licence (like GPL). There is no explanation (just in short) of what the licence means, and a link to the the full licence-text would be nice.

Very impressed at the speed at which GForge was set up after the SourceForge difficulties.  It will be very interesting to hear the full story behind the SorceForge problems one day!

Can I put in a plea for end users?  There was a lot of discussion during the recent SF downtime about official mirrors.  I'm not familiar with GForge file structure, but is it relatively easy to rsync a directory of end user release files + MD5s to a trusted mirror - for end user file releases only, not SVN or other developer files?  This would have benefits for end users in the future in terms of resilience in the (probably unlikely) event of server downtime, but also for users outside North America who prefer to access a local (and possibly faster) mirror.  This would also reduce the load on the main GForge server too, which could benefit developers.

Thoughts from the systems admins?

Thanks

Mike

We already have a mirror setup ;) It's just seamless.

When I get some free time, lol I will do up a blog post about how this is all setup.

Congrats to the JC Team !!!!

I'd also like to mention (if they haven't been already) Timothy Perdue and the folks at GForge and also Chris and the Rochen team... both were instrumental in getting the Joomla!Code off the ground.

Cheers
Shayne
