I notice that several files have been converted to windows line endings in this release. This is very annoying because it messed up my attempted merge. The affected files are:

modules/mod_poll.php
components/com_content/content.php
components/com_content/content.html.php
components/com_user/user.html.php
components/com_contact/contact.php

On further investigation it seems that many files in the joomla releases use windows line endings. Wouldn't it be better to stick to one or the other? Shouldn't svn be taking care of this automatically?

I don't think so - the Joomla team know what their doing, and with interpreting the licence is a way that prevents forums such as SMF - and THIS forum IS SMF too - from being integrated can't be something that they've just stumbled into. The politics of why SMF and some others are pulling out of Joomla support is quite correctly not for discussion here, but the fact that any other program that adds to or works alongside Joomla may no longer legally do so is a worry. If SMF was some niche forum software it wouldn't be such an issue, but this is going to affect lots of site! It's relevent here, because it's with this Joomla release that site admins are oing to hit the problem for the first time.

It's been posted in both the SMF and Joomla! forums that the teams are working together, now, on a solution. The bridge can be built without violating the GPL. That way, no one has to take anyone's word that they won't seek compliance for violating the license - there will *be* compliance.

As an average end user I find it sad and disappointing that suddenly the primary concern is NOT with creating simplest, most elegant and most efficient solutions but those they are compliant with some bureaucratic 'body'...

What happened to two groups of coding and programming experts working together on Open Source and Free projects? Why is suddenly a third party and politics become more important than projects themselves?

    I installed this update yesterday thinking that I had a new installation without many extensions. I worked with it for many hours yesterday without problems. I am building my site locally with xammp. This morning I rebooted my computer and fired up the localhost and... oopps where is the style. The server can't see the style sheet but I can get it via my vista file system. So I go to the backend(admin) and here the top menu bar is missing. I can't get to components. Well I'm using firefox. I go to ie 7 and everything works fine there. Anyone else experiencing similar issues?

No Firefox issues in Mac OS...

My Joomla 1.0.13 is running in linux.

I second Anna's sentiments (above). The current state of affairs appear to go from bad to worse; still reeling from the impact of the GPL debacle, I hadn't dared look at the most recent developments; but while building a beta site for a new client, I saw that 1.0.13 was out, and thought, "great, since 1.5 seems to always be just over the horizon but never actually here, let's at least use that." Only halfway thru the new install did I stop and discover the issue with CB, and subsequently reading thru this thread lead me to then discover the most recent, ahem, "developments" vis a vis SMF. Not exactly progress for those of us whose sites rely on, say, CB and SMF...

And so, for the first time since committing to Joomla, I felt compelled to go over and see what was happening over at Mambo -- were things just a chaotic, or might they actually offer a foundation for future development? I've got too much invested in Joomla at this point to switch, but with the new "one step forward, two steps back" approach that joomla appears to be taking, I'm going to think twice before launching new projects into the joomla-sphere. Such a shame.

It appears that Community Builder - is testing their final release for 13; also JoomlaHacks appear to be testing their SMF bridge for 13 and appear to be testing integration with CB, as well.

Thx -- I've been on board for some time now, the challenge these days is hanging on... 

I appreciate that there are alternatives to the "official" bridges etc., but at a time where the foundation is shaken -- literally -- to its core, it doesn't take too many events like the SMF departure to make you wonder. The apparently less-than-elegant 1.0.13 upgrade just came at a really bad time; I appreciate that y'all needed to address security issues and that we all need to do due diligence before upgrading, but at this point where most of us are waiting for 1.5 to finally materialize, a simple patch to 1.0.12 would have been so much more preferable to futzing around with existing, stable installs, particularly for those of us who are not keen on mod'ing our way thru several sites.

FWIW, but thx again for the welcome and the optimism -- it'll keep me hanging on a while yet...

This thread is about the 1.0.13 release, not about GPL. Please stay on topic to keep the forum usefull.

amy & thingwarbler, I too was somewhat upset about that unmentionable subject. But, after stepping back and viewing the overall picture then examining more closely some of the possible legal ramifications, I've changed my view. Imagine what would happen to Joomla 1.5 if the core team were caught-up by some legal process relating to that unmentionable subject. I also believe that if you read the posts by Motokochan and Orstio in regards to the SMF bridge, you'll also see that SMF has not "departed" but has just taken a step back to allow the J-Team some breathing room.

About 1.0.13, keep in mind that upgrades are optional and not required. I always wait at least a week or three before upgrading. Fortunately many of the supporting 3PDs (like Soeren of VirtueMart) are taking things in stride and are already coming out with fixes to amend the login issues.

quick question, since this is my first ever update with a joomla site. all i have to do is upload the new files from the 1.0.12 to 1.0.13 patch folder to my site overwriting the old files? do i have to run any thing or do anything after that?

thanks for the link, helped answer my question and more.

i looked over that thread, i am not running any of these extensions, my joomla site is used for news and information content. Members cannot create an account on the front end of the site which uses joomla, they can although create an account on the forums. So not many problems can happen here.

i just did the upgrade to 1.0.13 and it couldn't have went any smoother. 

I am having this issue, also.

as i am new to zoomla....
i hosted zoomla with my site but it still shows some error....
the error is.

Following PHP Server Settings are not optimal for Security and it is recommended to change them:
PHP register_globals setting is `ON` instead of `OFF`

how can i solve this....
