Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
This is NOT working!
I have updated my site 1 hour ago via the backend, after receiving an email from Joomla! Developer Network (you), telling me to update...
Now, my all site has crashed.
I cannot login into my backend, and my homepage shows my offline page!
my site is: www.pokergooddeal.co.uk
This is not serious, I mean before sending mail to people and tell them to update this should be bug free, or at least bug free for massive crashes!
I have read that upgrading manually works, however this is written in your email.
Unfortunately my last backup is a couple of days old, so anything I did during the last couple of days will be lost (yes, this is my fault), but I thought after receiving an email telling me to upgrade, it should be safe to do so... This never happened to me with any other kind of software before and now I am out of site for the moment, and may loose valuable content!
Is there a way to quick fix this? Or revert back to 1.6.3 without using back ups?
Also, I would advise to resend a mail warning about this.
Thanks

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
as is clearly written in the upgrading guide
Step 1: Make sure you have a current backup of your site
Keep in mind that this is simply and basic rule valid on all upgrade not only for joomla
in the meantime i'm sure that developers are working hard to solve this issue

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
Well, I am sorry but I don't get the point of some responses here.
When you receive an email saying upgrade THIS, THIS should work isn't?
I am looking for a solution and at the same time sharing my experience. What is your point? Just making fun? There are other forums for that.
My site has crashed so at this point, so it is not really the best moment for bizarre jokes...
I have seen this happen to other people, and unfortunately I did a mistake but my backup is only 4 days old so it is not like I lost everything, but if there is any solution for this, I will be happy to hear.
As said in my previous post, I know that was a mistake on my part, but that is not the point.alikon wrote:as is clearly written in the upgrading guide

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
I know now and will make sure to backup regularly and always before backing up.
It is the just the fact that I received that mail that made me want to upgrade my joomla site without thinking.
I know I was wrong, and I am extremely thankful to joomla developpers for all the hard work and the amazing CMS they have built but I am just saying that this email was sent too early.
I am not the only one experiencing this and all I did was click on the update so it is not like I did it the wrong way...

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
Perhaps ironically a bug causing the auto upgrade to fail on some systems was fixed in version1 .6.4, but of course that will only take effect on the next upgrade. (It was included in this release because the upgrade to 1.7 will either have to go trough auto upgrade or be a little more work than the 1.6.x upgrades)

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
@harooooon -
There are indeed some upgrades that are failing hard, meaning it sometimes results in files that are not updated and therefore are missing. In some cases, nearly all files have been deleted from the upgrade.
As RealityKing indicated, a "workaround" fix was applied to 1.6.4 -- but it will not be in affect until the 1.7 upgrade. What the fix does is reset the PHP timeout to 0 so that more time is allowed for unzipping - and then replacing -- all of the files. When the upgrade fails for people, it's due to a timeout situation on their host. (The upgrade package is very large.)
IF YOUR UPGRADE FAILED, simply take a full zip file from 1.6.4, unzip it, (EDIT) DELETE the installation folder (END EDIT) and copy all of the (EDIT) remaining (END EDIT) files back to your Web site. Your install is just missing files -- copying the full zip back to your website will fix your problem. It is not any better to drop back a version since the same problem could happen then, too.
Yes, as usual, take a backup before upgrading, but if you didn't (like most people!), you can still fix your site simply by copying a full install back to your site -- and allowing it to replace all of the existing files. It is scarey - yes - but it's fixable. Next upgrade, we hope to see this problem go away!
Sorry for the trouble! It's always so concerning when that happens!
(EDIT NOTES) - updated my incorrect instructions to make it clear you need to remove the Installation folder. Do NOT reinstall Joomla or you will lose the information about your installed Extensions. If you did that, you can restore a copy of your database, or reinstall the extensions. My apologies for this omission.

Will it be possible to upgrade from 1.6.4 to 1.7 by using FTP?

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
I added an FAQ Item for the Failed Upgrade situation.
http://docs.joomla.org/1.6.4_Installer_Deleted_My_Files
For those of you having this problem, feel free to clarify the FAQ if you think it will help others understand what to do if this happens to their site.
Thank you.

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
Hi,
I have fixed the update by manually installing all the files from the FTP but I have other problems now.
My template doesn't work and when I try to access my template manager on the backend I get this error:
500 - An error has occurred.
Error loading form file
Return to Control Panel
Also, when I open an article, I have an error saying: Cannot load editor. So there is no article editor.
I have probably missed something after uploading the full package on my ftp and deleting the installation folder?

Did you have any extensions installed, e.g. a different editor? Try reinstalling them.
Be careful and backup your database first, an extension my wreck havoc on it's data!

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
@harooooon -
To me, it sounds like maybe there were problems during the FTP upload where some of the files did not get transferred. If you use FileZilla, there is a way to monitor any failed transmissions - and resend those files.
In this image - http://filezilla-project.org/images/scr ... n_main.png - it's the bottom, middle tab that shows failed transfers.
In any sense, if you would kindly open a new post and share a link to that post - we could move this specific discussion out of the announcements and make sure you get back to good.
When you post again, please include the exact error messages, too. I searched the core for those and did not find them. It'll help us narrow in on your problem.
Thanks much!

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
Thank you @harooooon - I updated the Wiki - and want to clarify in this thread too - before copying the files from the 1.6.4 zip - DELETE the installation folder.
I fear my incomplete advise could have created more problems for @harooooon. Do NOT re-install Joomla! since doing so will remove all of the information for any currently installed Extensions. Delete the installation folder first.
Am working with @harooooon in the new thread.

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released
I tried to upgrade my local J1.6.3 test site (running on xampp 1.7.3) to J1.6.4 using the Extension Manager - Update feature. However, although the upgrade instructions are saying "IMPORTANT: This process will take a few minutes", I aborted the process after looking at a blank screen for approximately 20 Minutes, because I thought if applying the patch didn't finish in that time, something has gone wrong. So I ended up upgrading the old fashioned way using copy and paste.
I didn't investigate this any further, but I suppose that an 82kb patch probably doesn't have a problem with maximum execution times...

Re: Discuss Joomla! 1.6.4 Released site didn't show up
opss !!! firs time since joomla 1 that a site didn't show up after upgrade; it looks that the probleme was with the file "libraries/joomla/environment/request.php" i got a blank page in the front page and the backend, be maintained and make a backup.
also the auto upgrade didn't work!
the site works with joomla 1.6.3 my SQL 5.2.X and was run on IE8 & firefox 5
Avrik
after one more site examination it's looks that the issue is between the files:
libraries/joomla/environment/request.php
components/com_content/models/article.php
components/com_content/models/articles.php
without this 3 fils the upgrade works fine

If you don't update JRequest the error is no surprise. The function mentioned was only added in 1.6.4. The bank page puzzles me to be honest.
