sorry, i don't explain very well how i have in my head (because my english is very down). my slogan don't explain kind of sites but the origin of project: if you choose joomla! for your site(s) you must know joomla! force (the community). i hope you understand meSineMacula wrote:The heart behind the development of Joomla! is certainly the community, but an awful lot of sites built with Joomla/Mambo are not community sites at all - I myself have built 7 or 8 sites with it, and none of them is "community" based. Re: New slogan
That was not to search for a CMS but to eliminate the beachwear, dances etc associated with the name Mambo.bedlam wrote:from a user's point of view who wants to search for a good cms and doesnt know the name joomla, try searching for just "cms" or "content manangement system" .... see how joomla ranks from the restChris wrote:Who needs a slogan.farimi wrote: joomla! an opensource CMS.
Looking at Google for
mambo+cms = 2,300,000
In the short period of the life of Joomla:
joomla+cms = 1,130,000
I call that 'going strong' for a 'the better choice'
This gave only the numbers for a cms called Joomla and/or Mambo
There is no failure until you give up.

Ccms (Community Content Management System). This community is great (logo competition is an example) so i think we have to exalt this project's side.
My personal opinion (and it is only an opinion) is that it makes more sense to have a slogan that presents prospective users (and the press) something about what it is, or how it's used, or how it makes their life easier/better/etc., or how they'll feel when using it.
A slogan should somehow play up the benefits of Joomla and/or tell what it actually is either directly (e.g. "Joomla! Content management made easy") or semi-directly (e.g. "Joomla! Set your sites on it") or indirectly (e.g. "Joomla! It's just easier this way").
The fact that there is a strong, creative, wonderful community here supporting Joomla and the talented folks that develop it, and third party additions, is very important to us, but to people who are first coming to Joomla, looking for a CMS, it may not be important at all (especially if they're in the early stages of learning about the whole Open Source thing and the importance of these communities - as I was when I first discovered Mambo). For those that choose Joomla, many will discover the community, and its strength, diversity, and creativity after they start using it, if they don't do so during the exploration phase.
So, to summarize (sorry, I get long-winded near the end of my day... well, actually, time of day doesn't really matter ) -- it is my opinion that using the slogan to promote or express the fact that there is a strong community behind Joomla is not the best approach. But it's not up to me, so who knows?!? I'll be happy to support whatever is decided!

Re: New slogan
Think "lifestyle", "way of life". Now look at my suggestions:
Joomla! - Your way of site
Joomla! - A way of sites
Joomla! - The way of sites
Joomla! - Retaining your sitestyle
Don't know all too many lifestyle expressions in english, but my point is to get the idea out there, not the actual slogans I wrote.
Since we all are geeks I say:
Joomla! - All your CMS are belong to us!

would be nice if the name stayed open source too, and doesn't sound to commercial, originality is the keyword imo, originality can be funny and the other way around... imo...

Joomla - The Power of Many
How about ....
Joomla! - the fork your spaghetti needs (spaghetti being information, etc)
Actually, I've got to admit that the slogan "all together now" does have a lot of appeal to me. However, for positioning the product to be taken seriously in the business / IT setting, I'd like to suggest the following:
Joomla - the power of many
Why? Well, it's short ... as a slogan needs to be. It's not cheesy either.
"the power of many" also instantly conveys a good mental image of both (a) the nature of community involvement and (b) the extendability of the software through third party modules/components/mambots etc.
It does catch a bit of a ride off "the power of one" (book/movie) concept, but doesn't depend on it to successfully communicate. Indeed Joomla! isn't about what one has done, but what many can accomplish. Hence there is even more power in "many".
Lastly, both the words used and the concept they convey (on the literal level) are simple and should mean that the slogan translates easily. Much better than a complex or humour/cheesy slogan would.

Joomla! because you can.
^^ says it all, you want it, you can do it. Puts the emphasis on the user, joomla just helps you do what ever you want with your site.
With CMS :
Joomla! Community Maintenance Support
Joomla! Communities Must-be Supported
Thoughts ?

ok, i havent read all 17 pages, but so dont be surprised if i say something stupid
i think a good one would be:
Joomla! Open Source Matters
what is opensourcematters being used for right now? if it is nothing more than nothing, we might as well use it as joomla's slogan

Re: New slogan
My slogan suggestions:
- Joomla; Light Years Ahead..
- Joomla; At The Speed Of Light...
- Dont Jumble; Choose Joomla
- Joomla; Modern Webdesign
- Joomla; Mastermind...
From the slogans suggested so far I like mostly:
Control Your Web
The CSM Experience
Collective Intelligence
Infinite Possibilities
I m so astonished about people using the words OPEN SOURCE in the slogan! When I hear open source my mind relates to hundreds of software which have an open code. I dont think it should be used to define a csm since it describes a whole lot more softwares. Anything related to "all together" is also not of my taste. I like to work alone without people around my head :P, nor do I like to be forced to be part of a community (even if I respect a lot what it going on in here). Isnt it selfunderstood that there should be no link between mambo and joomla? These projects are likely to develope differently. I am looking forward to seeing great functional differences in the future. These are just my thoughts, I know you cant satisfy everyone, but at least a neutral and serious slogan should be easier to digest than emotional ones.
