A ha, that's huge news! Well done to everyone involved. I'll give it spin in a bit :).

Thanks to the team once again.

Great stuff..

I would like to dig in and trial this on a copy of my joomla website. I dont see any 1.5.x to 1.6 files for download or are the 1.6 files universal and will be able to update all previous 1.5 versions?

Cheers

Great work, everyone! Thank you for making the best CMS even better.
Let's hope upgrading from 1.5 to 1.6 final will be as easy as possible.

Kudos to everyone who made this release possible!! Amazing really.
I presume with the release of the stable production version in January there will be an upgrade feature for automatic upgrade from version 1.5 to 1.5, right?

Sorry but your assumption is incorrect.

Per the notes from the November PLT meeting, there will not be an official upgrade path for 1.5 to 1.6. This responsibility is being left to third party extension developers.

As of this moment, there is one extension that I am aware of that handles the upgrade process for 1.5 to 1.6, and that is jUpgrade (http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... tion/11658).

I think an upgrade will be very messy.
But how jUpgrade does it (haven't test it my self, just read what it does) is a migration process.
It migrate

* Banners
* Categories
* Contacts
* Content
* Menus
* Modules
* Newsfeeds
* Users
* Weblinks

Don't know modules compatibly problem can be.
But as you can see it doesn't migrate the EXT and sektions.
Leaving the most compatibility problems behind.

Should it work whit any csv or xml export import that support both 1.5 and 1.6?

Without a publish date on the article, it's hard to know when these comments were made. But, based on the comments being over a year old, that would put the comments during the 1.6 Alpha phase. A lot has changed since then.

The publish date for that article is "Written on Sunday, 04 October 2009 23:00"

There's work being done on an extension for moving from 1.5 to 1.6 but it's not going to be part of the default installation the way it was in 1.5.

I think you can follow some action in the jupgrade branch.

Great work team, this is what open source is about. Thanks to all for years of development, research, bug-hunting, brain storming and such a great community that has finally given us 1.6. You *all* deserve a medal :)
