I upgraded 1.60 to 1.62 through GoDaddy and it took down the site. Error messages were:

Warning: require_once/home/content/12/6421712/html/components/com_mailto/helpers/mailto.php) [function.require-once]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in/home/content/12/6421712/html/components/com_content/helpers/icon.php on line 43

Fatal error: require_once() [function.require]: Failed opening required '/home/content/12/6421712/html/components/com_mailto/helpers/mailto.php' (include_path='.:/usr/local/php5/lib/php') in /home/content/12/6421712/html/components/com_content/helpers/icon.php on line 43

Line 43 seems to indicate a software upgrade failure:

static function email($article, $params, $attribs = array())
{
$uri = JURI::getInstance();
$base = $uri->toString(array('scheme', 'host', 'port'));

Is this correct?

Suggestion:

Pick a full 1.6.3 pack from joomla.org and overwrite your install.

why are the most recent releases not in any RSS feed?

I rely on these feeds to tell me when there are any announcements and releases, but I now get these updates from other sites.

Is that how I'm supposed to get my release news now?

thanks.
where did you find that link for the release-news feed?

Is it somewhere and I just don't see it? Or should I just 'know' to put '?format=feed' ?

I subscribed to the Announcement feed on the site (not the forum) and oddly, Releases don't seem to be 'Announced'.

Just a quick note -
Has anyone noticed a layout issue in the Media Manager in 1.6.3?
The folder tree frame and the files frame seem to be split down
the center of the page as opposed to the typical 30/70 layout.
( I hope that made sense )
I don't know if anyone else has seen this. I did both an update
from 1.6.1 and a clean 1.6.3 installation, both producing the
same result. Looks like it could be a missing CSS element or
something. Then again, it could just be me. I did skip my
medication today, so anythings possible. :eek:

Had my first solid encounter with Joomla 1.6.3 yesterday after many years of the 1.5 series.
I would consider my skill level to be beginner/intermediate.
Server Compatability : very good but not perfect

Notes:
*great install - no problems
*terrific info support loaded as sample data.

Initial operational issues:
*Saving template changes provokes a nuisance, irregular, unrelated "site-error 500" [nonsense]
*Can't assign modules to menu/pages properly
*Can't uninstall templates.

Is it worth continuing to use?
At this stage serious doubts exist and am wondering if waiting for a better release would be advisable. As module assigment is critical to a complex site to avoid using excessive numbers of templates.

Obviously this is a major leap for the Joomla Team from the earlier framework used for versions 1.5 and I guess after some time and heaps of sorting out it will be worth it.
However congratulations are in order on the tremendous courage you guys must have to make this leap. [ As yet I have not trialed the new permissions system so wish me luck!]

Currently I am using/developing a personal blog/info site in my spare time as a vehicle to trial it's "designability", "functionality" and "flexibility" and as yet I am unprepared to commit to using it in a commercial application. [ I have numerous commercial 1.5 version sites]

...just some initial thoughts...

edit: have since worked out the module assigment issue - well I believe I have any way...
which improves my assessment of the Joomla install sigificantly..[removed "Blueprint" to start with]

Look here
http://community.joomla.org/translation ... tions.html

we should have, at last, a fully compliant pack today or tomorrow.

Joomla 1.6 has reached its end of life and would not be supported any more by Joomla developers team. It means that, even there are some security problems found in the latest version of Joomla 1.6, the fixes would not be made and published.it's time for an upgrade. Fortunately, it's not that hard to upgrade from Joomla 1.6 to 2.5.
