Congratulations to all who worked hard on this release!

If you are wondering about what happened to Joomla! 1.8, see the Vote for the Version post from July 2011.

Option # 2 was selected for the new versioning scheme. So Joomla! 2.5 is a Long Term Support (LTS) release, that will be supported for 18 months, and is the most stable release of the 1.6/1.7 series.

The Infographic: Joomla CMS Development Strategy also explains the new release strategy well.

İ am still trying to install since 1.7.3 auto update couldn't find a new package and installing from extension manager didn't work either. So trying to manually. Nevertheless this is a huge step for Joomla congratulations to all

2.5 is a beta release and will not be picked up by the update function in 1.7.3.

I had stuck by the built-in captcha plugin?
The page was freeze. Cannot click anything!

Not-production site, it occurred with the upgrade ver from 1.7 to 2.5.

I am very excited to see the new Finder component being integrated in this version. Thanks a lot to all the developers who worked on this. Joomla is already being used as an intranet cms in many small and midsized companies. I think, with the new Finder component it will be much easier to use Joomla for knowledge management purposes.

this is correct since it is not loaded on the update server but an alternative location for storing beta might be a solution so it can be properly tested

Hi,
I'm not a developer - just a user.
Are we to expect 1.7 extensions to be compatible with 2.5?

Thanks

I installed it locally and it was seamless. No problems. I think there should be some splach screen telling briefly about the new features. I found one problem though. I run Joomla in brazilian portuguese. Since 1.7 the Backend is missing many translations. Even though the correct INI file is present with the string translated, text remains in english. I don't understand why this happens and I haven't found anything about it in forums. This problem is still there in 2.5.

must be an incomplete translation file. Should be easy to fix by the brasillian translation group.

Congrats on the new version. Can someone help me find requirements? I see only 15 17 info

http://www.joomla.org/technical-requirements.html

Reason why I am asking is error I am getting on

Call to undefined function get_called_class()

that is used in class JFormField

line 203 in libraries\joomla\form\field.php

$parts = JString::splitCamelCase(get_called_class());

which we know is in php 5.3 > version . Is joomla 2.5 for php 5.3 and up only?
This will give trouble to some users since most of hosting companies having hard time switching from 5.2 and up

Question: Where to go when a component that works fine on Joomla 1.6 and 1.7 does not work on Joomla 2.5 (beta 1)? Is that a problem for the developer of that component?

E.g. Andrew Eddie wrote this (https://groups.google.com/forum/#!msg/j ... kZ9jgMRj8J)
"4) Your favourite extensions for 1.6/7 install and work as expected on the beta" and "The Joomla Platform has been upgraded while we are confident it's completely backward compatible, it's likely there are a few glitches.".
Is it then a bug when an extension does not work as in Joomla 1.6/1.7 on Joomla 2.5? Or is the extension faulty?

I'd suggest reporting it to both the extension developer, if he considers the core at fault he should report it as a backwards compatibly issue.

With 1.7 some extensions even failed because the version number was changed, of course the core can do nothing about stuff like that.

This looks like a translation string missing. Where did it show?

I have some doubt in 2.5. assuming 2.5 is a direct upgrade from 1.7 which again an upgrade from 1.6 I am using this link to find out whats new..

http://docs.joomla.org/What%27s_new_in_Joomla_1.6

1)In the section Developers->Improved MVC->JModelList and JModelForm are added in 1.6.
I could understand that JModelForm is used to create form <xml> and create custom form element.(Like in com_user) But what should be extended in model class? JModelForm or JModelList? What if i need both? I am very unclear about JModelList..

2)There is a column called Sub-controller handling..Can anyone explain more about this? Any links?

3)When I try to find some notes in these links
http://docs.joomla.org/API16:JModelList
I am finding the example part empty. A very basic usage example is needed. Will it get covered for all the 2.5 API reference (joomla platform 11.3)?

Thanks. So it depends on the problem whether it should be addressed in de component or the core (e.g. Joomla 2.5).

Where should one report a (potential) "backwards compatability issue"?

I've got a feeling I'll will wait a little while longer to use J2.5 in project. I'm still having problems with 1.7!!!!!

I decided to use K2 in my own site. I always use JCEditor in all my projects. For some reason, K2 will not display JCEditor, even though all extensions are up to date.

*sigh*

As I'm testing, it still easy to go back to basic com_content. But I was frustrated because I really wanned to give a try to K2 and its extra fields feature, which I find very handy.
