this probably sounds stupid but it keeps telling me "Error! Could not find an XML setup file in the package."

If im doing 1.15 to 1.16 do i just download and then use the installer? Because its not working :(

Hi Jarrex,

The upgrade packages are not meant to be installed using the standard joomla installer.
Try have a look at this page explaining 'Upgrading 1.5 from an existing 1.5.x version:
http://docs.joomla.org/Upgrading_1.5_fr ... 5x_version

Else there are tools to help you easily upgrade. Try have a look at this:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... llers/9332

*Nomatter how you choose to upgrade then please remember that first step is always 'Backup current site, files and db' - Then you can proceed with upgrading and always roll back in case something went wrong. :)

I have uploaded the files to my joomla install and evrything seems to go okay and if I am logged in already and do a refresh it says 1.5.16 in the right hand corner but if I log out again then try to re log back in again with my existing username and password nothing happens and it just comes back to the login screen.

Is there a list of the files that have actually been modified for 1.5.16. When I do a file comparison, all 963 files in the upgrade package show diffs due to the change in the header information. I was hoping to get a list of files with actual changes.

Thanks in advance!

Here's the solution anyway, for the benefit of others who might be looking for the answer in this thread:

Release Notes:
Check the Joomla 1.5.16 Post-Release FAQs to see if there are important items and helpful hints discovered after the release.
There are some reports of people being unable to login to the back end of their Joomla! 1.5.16 sites after upgrading from an earlier version. At this time, we are unable to reproduce the issue.

However, the reported solution to this issue is to edit the configuration.php file and make sure the line starting with var $session_handler (at or near line 68) is as follows:

Code: Select all

var $session_handler = 'database';
(check the 1.5.16_FAQ link in case of further updates)

Also check there for PHP4 issues.

The only problem with doing the suggested change is that jomres requires the sesion handler to be set to none

Is there going to be a ZIP available for 1.5.15 to 1.5.16? Do I really have to replace ALL the files?

I used the upgrade package when I logged in about 8:00 EDT and got it. Then again, I also went through my whole site and did a sanity reset on the permissions. I saw that article in the FAQ; personally, I don't agree with having to use the full install package to reset permissions, but that's an argument for another day.

It was there as of when I downloaded it. They must of taken it down because of the file permissions problem.

ETA: Found on the main announcement: "IMPORTANT NOTE: There is a problem in the upgrade packages for version 1.5.16. Until this can be fixed, please upgrade using the full package file above. You can follow the same instructions as for the upgrade packages. Just use the full file instead of the version file. We will correct this situation as soon as possible. Thank you."

Where is that other thread? I can't find it. I'm getting quite frequent notices saying my session has ended in the backend...on 3 live and 2 test sites. I can't pinpoint it to the 1.5.16 update as I was doing some component updates at the same time....but all my config files all have session_handler equal to database already.

Hello,

I run 5 - 1.5.16 Installations...
most of them work 2 Not... "Backend Login Problem" (btw. same on Frontend)
***** Manual signatures are NOT allowed *****__
The 3 Working installations run on ...
PHP-Version: 5.2.11
Database Version: 5.0.85-community
var $session_handler = 'database';

***** Manual signatures are NOT allowed *****__
The 2 not Working run on...
PHP Version: 5.1.6-1
Database Version: 4.1.15-Debian_1-log
var $session_handler = 'database';
==> Non oft the proposed fixes on your faq works for this environment..
only commenting out helps..
//$session->fork();
//$this->_createSession($session->getId());

@chenfuyin - configuration.php-dst is included in all upgrades. It does not affect your current configuration.php. Install.php is also included - it is not the same as the installation directory.

Thank for your above quick reply so much.
But i am not absolutely agree with you.
Joomla_1.5.7_to_1.5.8-Stable-Patch_Package => not including
Joomla_1.5.8_to_1.5.9-Stable-Patch_Package => including
Joomla_1.5.10_to_1.5.11-Stable-Patch_Package => not including
Joomla_1.5.11_to_1.5.12-Stable-Patch_Package => not including
Joomla_1.5.12_to_1.5.13-Stable-Patch_Package => not including
Joomla_1.5.13_to_1.5.14-Stable-Patch_Package => not including
But, the last question, i update it as normally ?

Update as normal. configuration.php-dst is not used unless you somehow mess up your existing configuration.php and need to rebuild it. In that case you would have to rename it and add the appropriate parameters. Its inclusion, probably means the devs have modified something and needed it to be up-to-date- who knows? The Install.php file is simply instructions on how to install Joomla. Again will not interfere with you upgrade.

Does this new version of joomla 1.5.16 include the upgrade to Mootools 1.2?

Looks like 1.5.16 is shipping with mootools 1.2. There is no mention in the release note of an upgrade, but it looks like 1.5.15 shipped with mootools 1.2 as well.

Anyone know what is going on?

Yes, looks like 1.5.16 is shipping with mootools 1.2.. this is IMHO a >>massive<< issue because mootools 1.2 is very incompatible with mootools 1.1 and so many existing Joomla! extensions will break when you upgrade to Joomla 1.5.16

There is no mention of the change to mootools in the release note.

I am down-grading to 1.5.15 asap!
It seems that 1.5.16 (and most likely 1.5.17) still comes with Mootools 1.12
var MooTools={version:'1.12'}

Joomla 1.5.17 will release on the 27th of April 2010
IMPORTANT UPDATE EFFECTIVE 25 APRIL 2010: Version 1.5.16 contains two serious bugs that will affect your site if you use a version of PHP prior to 5.2 or if you have the Session Handler parameter set to None in Global Configuration. To correct these issues, version 1.5.17 is scheduled to be released on 27 April 2010. If you haven't already upgraded to version 1.5.16, you may wish to wait for version 1.5.17 instead.
Since there are Moderate Priority security fixes in 1.5.16/1.5.17 you should update.

Oops! so it does - in my excitement, i mis-read 1.12 as 1.2!!

On most of my Joomla sites the update to 1.5.16 was no problem, but on one, scarsdalefriendsmeeting.org there was an issue with logging in to the front end. I use Community Builder on this site and some of the other sites as well. The CB Login module refers to a page to retrieve a forgotten password or register, but does not login a registered member.

I was able to fix the issue by changing the session handler to "database" in the global configurations, Joomla Flash Uploader needs the session handler to be set to "none" for it full functionality, and apparently there is another Joomla update that will make this possible again.
