Congrats to the Joomla team and community for a speedy reaction to the major bugs of Joomla 2.5.5.

Sh.. happens, it's only how we handle it (and learn from it) which matters :-)

It is recommended to check with your extensions providers for compatibility before upgrading. The many new surprising features introduced in this "dot dot security release" have taken some major third party developers by surprise. We are discussing with Joomla team on how to avoid such surprises in the future.

I have seen issues reports from Virtuemart, Docman and CB so far, but there are certainly more.

To all Community Builder users: Please upgrade to CB 1.8.1 when upgrading to Joomla 2.5.6 (best upgrade CB to 1.8.1 first then Joomla to 2.5.6). The new password-reseting limiter feature and database change introduced by 2.5.5 broke CB 1.8 (and earlier) registration and user edit saving.

Community Builder 1.8.1 is being released in next hours after final tests with final Joomla 2.5.6 release (we have over 100 CB add-ons to test on Joomla 2.5.6+CB 1.8.1, so it takes a bit of time). News will be published on http://www.joomlapolis.com/ and for people with CB 1.8 and Joomla 1.6-2.5, it will also be available through the Joomla built-in extensions upgrader too for the first time. I will edit this post if needed with latest news.

UPDATE: CB 1.8.1 has been released and can be upgraded from Extensions -> Installer menu -> Updates tab, or it can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.joomlapolis.com/

I updated to 2.5.6 yesterday and I'm unable to upload photos from the media manager. Is this a known bug for this update?

Hi and welcome, SharingForward!

I'm on 2.5.6 and able to upload photos just fine. It's likely not an issue with the version.

Would you open up a new forum topic in the following forum so that you can get help?
viewforum.php?f=615

Kind regards,
Nick

I noticed a problem with sending emails on our production site immediately after upgrading to 2.5.6. I had to restore the phpmailer library from 2.5.4 and the problem went away.

At least one other person on twitter reported this problem.

I'm not sure where/how to report it on the bug tracker.

Hi MrRoyce,

That's interesting. You can report the bug using the following procedure:
http://docs.joomla.org/Filing_bugs_and_issues

Thanks for your help!

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi, can anyone tell me if I can go from 2.5.4 to 2.5.6 without installing 2.5.5? According to my Components > Joomla! Update it wants me to install 2.5.6 directly, with no option for 2.5.5. I assume this is correct. Thanks!

Correct and very sensible!

I installed 2.5.5 then installed the interim patch. The 2.5.6 release will not install. Any ideas or work arounds out there?

@mabeall, try using Firefox/firebug or an equivalent tool to see if files are being downloaded correctly - it looks like some required files are missing.

Hi mabeall,

That's not an issue with Joomla 2.5.6 or Joomla at all. The file is not part of the Joomla core, so I'm guessing that an extension inserted it upon installing. Remove it and hopefully the global configuration will work for you again.

Kind regards,
Nick

it's a fresh installed. I haven't installed any extensions. I even deleted the install and redid it (2.5.5). still doesn't work. I haven't added anything not even categories, menu or articles.

Hi mabeall,

Which installation files did you use? Did you by chance use your host's Joomla installer or a quick install version from a template club? That file is not part of the core (I just double checked to be sure), so something else put it there.

Just delete that particular php.ini file (not the whole installation) and it should work for you.

Kind regards,
Nick

Hi mabeall,

Sounds like your host's installer is inserting it then. Yes, reinstalling over the current installation only replaces over the same files and it does delete extra files.

Great! I'm glad that deleting it got the global config working! You're welcome! :)

Kind regards,
Nick

Has anyone else had a problem with 2.5.6 sending emails and is there a fix? I read about it in a previous post and can't upgrade until this is fixed.

Many thanks,

Dave.

Hi Dave,

I think it might be related to the following bug tracker ID:

@davidbloggitt - Mail seems to be broken with J! 2.5.6 when running it with early versions of PHP 5.3.x (e.g. PHP 5.3.3) running in Safe Mode.

There are several proposed solutions on this thread:

I have 3 sites running Joomla 2.5. They are on a shared hosting plan (i.e. all using the same control panel log in). All three had been upgraded to 2.5.4. Two automatically detected that an upgrade was available and did the upgrade with one click. The other site keeps telling me that it already has the latest version which is 2.5.4. It tells me this on the Control Panel screen and on the Update screen when I click on it. Why isn't it getting the upgrade info?

I think this is a great release and you guys have done a good job with it. I just published my massive three page review of it here: Joomla 2.5 Review
Code:
http://www.cmscritic.com/joomla-2-5-review/

Hopefully, it provides you with the feedback necessary to continue on the path of improvements.

I hope someone can help me, I just installed Joomla 2.5.6 fresh install.
Everything seems to be working a-ok.
But when a user comes in and post or replies it says Jan. 2012.
How do I set the joomla to the correct date and time.

Thanks in advance.

I have a problem! I started with clean install of Joomla 2.5 and so far automatic update worked perfectly..until now...
In my admin panel I saw that I can update Joomla to 2.5.6. but all I get is "The page can not be found". Link is http://www.mydomain.com/administrator/i ... omlaupdate

What should I do?

Best regards!
