Check to see if all the 4 files /adminstrator/ folder have been correctly updated.

I was getting the same thing. I reverted to 09 and then did a file by file upgrade, this seems to have been caused by a change in includes/joomla.php between 09 and 10 .  Given the other responses with the same issue, I'm hoping the dev team has some sort of fix or work around soon.

After upgrading 1.09 to 1.10  my 'mod_mostread' module's content gives me a 'You are not authorized to view this resource.
You need to login.' message.  Any idea how to fix this?

Each of my sites using the Contact component in the same way - smtp with authorisation. No error message is shown, the function just does nothing and the screen remains as is with the content of each field left intact.

I am having a HECK of a time with this upgrade! I downloaded Joomla and began working w/ it initially using version 1.0.8. When 1.0.9 came out I was able to upgrade without any problems. I've tried three times now to upgrade from 1.0.9 to 1.0.10 but each time I do it comes up with a blank white screen. Help!!! What am I doing wrong here? Please advise, and TIA.

check your configuration.php file and make sure it didn't get written over or is pointing to the wrong place.

I ended up with a complete reinstall tonight.

The installation script runs ok, it builds the DB + sample data. After removing the /installation/ I get the following error while trying to access the mainpage or administrator backend:

Perhaps I'm just too simple to understand the patching process - always a possibility. After installing 1.0.9 last week and adding numerous modules, components, mambots, etc., then backing the whole thing up with JoomlaCloner before updating to 1.0.10, I ended up with a totally unusable site. So, reinstalled 1.0.9 and the backup component to attempt a restore only to find that the backup zip file had an error.

Is there some kind of assumption on the part of the Joomla team that no changes will be made to their base installation or that any changes need not be taken into account when upgrading?

Well, whatever. I'm debating a total reinstall based on 1.0.10 or just moving to Drupal, which appears to have a much more friendly 'patch' process.

No, the Joomla! team does not assume that -- since they list over 700 extensions on the site they manage, they obviously know people will add to the base install. When I started, it was not uncommon for me to start from scratch -- that might be your best bet. You can learn a great deal each time you install. One other thing I found when I started is that I "over did it" with the extensions -- I was like a kid in a candy store, if you know what I mean.

I hope you stay with us! Joomla! is great -- and I am certain you will get there. If you do decide to stay with us, might I recommend "The Absolute Beginner's Guide to Joomla!" < http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,47524.0.html >. This has excellent tutorials written by various community members. Helped me a ton when I started!

Also, as an aside, I know it is frustrating (trust me) to learn and that during that process, it gets even more frustrating hitting brick walls - so, it is perfectly normal to be upset. But, the paragraph kind of step across the "frustrated" line and headed right into "fighting words" in my opinion. It would be cool if you removed it (and my last paragraph can be removed, as well.) Thanks for considering!

Upgraded from 1.09. When accsessing a contact item, I get this message:
. Where should this function be defined?

I've upgraded from 1.0.7 to 1.0.10 this morning, by overwriting the old files with the new ones via ftp, and I don't know why, my frontpage doesn't show anything anymore.

Does anyone has any idea on how to fix that?

For those not getting a page or an empty page....

It is very important that you take the site offline before you attempt to FTP the patch to the server!

You should never try to patch a site while it is currently live!

If someone should go to your site while you are in the middle of FTPing files some file you are trying to overwrite could get locked by the server and not get overwritten during the FTP proccess..

All it takes is one file to not get updated to effect the entire site. (especially something like index.php or the Joomla.php.

So try again with the following.

1 - Go into backend and take the site offline. Wait 5 mins or so to be sure all potential locked files are released.
2 - FTP the patch as per the instructions.
3 -  When done check the permissions of all files to make sure they are public readable as some FTP accounts set permissions to be not readable to the public by default
3a - You can usually do this by going into the backend system info and clicking on the permissions tab.
4 - Turn the site back to online and test.
5 - If you have problems still check your FTP log (if you have one) and see if there were any errors during the transfer. If so reupload those files (it happens FTP isn't perfect)

Since I upgraded a site to Joomla! core v.1.0.10 I don't see the option 'Link to content item' when I create a 'New Menu Item'. Why is this option removed?

EDIT: Solved. I saw another post when someone had to upload the full administrator folder again. I tried this also and it solved my problem.

I have upgraded from 1.0.9 to 1.0.10, and I got this error in my admin panel

I have downloaded a full version, and copied index2.htm into the administrator folder, and it seem quite OK. Yet I believe that it`s best to include the new file in the upgrade patch. Might save some problems

Just a nit to pick, but can we NOT include footer.php in every single upgrade?  I mean, what changed in Footer.PHP??  Except to over-write my custom ones....

Same here. First I always 'customised' includes/version.php. But this file changes every time, so I started 'customising' includes/footer.php.

and that had ZERO to do with the SQL insertion problem that this update fixed.
Sorry, but this file should not have been included in the patch.  Now I have to edit the patch before I apply it to all my other  (15) sites.

It seems now after upgrading to 1.0.10 that you can see Items of a section (in the admin) before you create any categories (although it won't let you create the items until there are categories).  Was this intentional?  I think this may be causing the problem with my most popular module not displaying the content of its links (because joomla is reading the content as 'registered' or 'special' content even though it is public content.

First rule of thumb when upgrading:

Any change/hack in the core files may be lost.
1. Keep copy of the changes
2. Check if the file is replaced or not in the patches/upgrades

Can you do some screen prints of this? I don't understand how there can even be an item without a category there, first.

Hey guys, I just did an upgrade from 1.0.9 > 1.0.10 by applying the patch (tar xzvf patch.1.0.10.tar.gz in webroot). After upgrade I logged into administrator and did a System > Clean all Cache

Im having an issue with the Who's Online module...its counting everytime I hit refresh in my browser...if I click refish 100 times it tells me there is 100 users online Does anyone know whats going on this is My Website http://www.vellypooh.com if you want to check it out and see for yourself.

I get "You are not authorized to view this resource" when trying to log in to the front end.  After upgrade from 1.0.9 to 1.0.10

Several others have reported this - anyone come up with a fix for it yet?
