I sincerly hope they will make this a COMPETITION next year, and i wish i read the rules a bit better lol. I admire Pact for setting up this "thingie" and i do believe it is helping the CMS world - but damn, the arangement with this "thingie" was just horrible. Can someone please tell me what coding language Drupal uses?

I am truly sorry if anyone take my word here as a CRITIC towards Joomla, pact or any of the other cms's - BUT it is a critc towards how the whole "thingie" was set up. If they do it like this next year. I wont partissipate and i wont care about it - as it all is set fourth how it will end anyway (sharing the doe between the BIG 1's)

But - i am still truly glad and happy for joomla earning the best php cms project. And i would also like to use this opportunety to congratulate with cashing in another 3K today :)

Drupal is built using PHP by an amazing, positive, and active community. I congratulate the Drupal community on their win this year. It is well deserved. They have worked very hard.

We have much to be proud of! What a challenging year we have had. I am proud of our community. Drupal's win does not diminish Joomla! in any way! In fact, it motivates me to participate more fully and help Joomla! grow even stronger!

Be encouraged. We have much to celebrate and there is room for everyone to participate and contribute,
Amy :)

Well Amy, noone is saying Drupal is a bad system or it doesn't deserve the award, but it is just stupid in the way Packt did it.

It was confusing, I agree, Ivo. I'm dealing with my own disappointment, too.  :P I love the Joomla! community and want good things for us. I believe we are capable of an amazing future. I say that with all sincerity and I am looking forward to this next year.

Kind regards,
Amy :)

I cant agree more with u Amy - Drupal is really a good CMS project

but, but, but, but - In the end - Joomla is the best - and the thing that "saves Pact", in terms of my tiny frustration, is this at Pact:

Quote:
.... The result of this year’s Award confirms this quality and also suggests that there isn’t necessarily one CMS that is the best, more that there is the best one to fit an individual user’s needs and requirements.

I am still encouraged and will not stop being a joomler :)

Congrats with the recognitions for Joomla and keep up tha great work around here all.

It's Friday - i am gona open a can of beer in a couple of hours. And my first beer is dedicated to joomla and all the people that work so hard around here. Cheeers every1..and congrats again.

The great one-two punch of Drupal-Joomla! has won the day again - if we work hard we'll tie the score next year and kick it in 2010 :)  Seriously, a well deserved win from Drupal - a little sad, hehe, but certainly an honour to play second fiddle to a project like that.  But what really thrilled me was how Packt is also getting behind the up-and-coming projects, not just the big players.  It's such an encouragement to them and the Open Source ethos in general.

Edit: Oh dear, what a day for Drupal's site to be down ;)  Scheduled upgrade - good timing, hehe.

This is true, so true.

Even though i had my " >:( " in terms of thinking how this award went through, i now am able to see "clear" again and realise/remember how much Pact actually supports the CMS world by this.

Joomla will be back strong next year,,,STRONG

Thanx Pact

As Andrew has said, it is a well deserved win. :)

It is all good: it is good that open source is being supported, it is good that open source projects are supportive of each other, because when the day is done we all win;  the projects win, the users win, and the users win in a double manner because they have choice, and not only a choice, but really competitive excellent choices, and excellent communities that support users.

It is all good baby!  :P

Again thanks to everyone that makes this project great!  It is the community of people from the user up and down to the developer and everyone in between that makes this project a wonder and a pleasure.  THANK YOU.

In case it helps anyone, the overall award was based on points as well as the judge's experienced opinions.

Drupal earned 2nd place in two categories, which gave it 4 points. Joomla won the PHP category and only earned 3 points.

"Category Award winners will be decided on a points basis. The CMS that the judges and public have voted as the number one will be awarded three points. The second placed CMS will receive two points and the third placed CMS will receive one point. The CMS with the highest number of points overall will be declared the winner"

I think the categories were hopeless, but in the end Joomla still took home $5000. You can't hold it against Packt.

taking into account that joomla (1.5) has NO stable version and that the old version has a deep root in the mambo days... well, I think the contest has been "equal"! But guys/gals the next year will be ours!!

Congrats guys, thanks for all of your quality pro bono work.

Joomla has done a lot to empower the individual. With it, anyone with an idea for a website and little startup capital can actualize that idea in a short time, without having to train themselves in PHP, SQL, or HTML/CSS. While I am a programmer myself, I really support the effort and mission of Joomla to bring the authoring tools of the world wide web to the general populace on an international level.

You guys rock. Keep on trucking. A well deserved reward.

(Can't wait for VM to hit 1.1 so I can upgrade to 1.5 and use the cool new API)
