I've been trying to correct this problem for over a week now. I have 3 levels of access on my site, public, registered and author. I have set up a user menu with 14 different items on it, some with access set to registered and some set to special. There is one item that is set to public. All of these menu items worked perfectly until October 30th when day light savings time went into effect. Since that point, only 5 of the items on this menu work. When logged in as a super admin, I get the message "You are not authorized to view thie resource, you must log in."

All of the items that display this error are links to components except one, which is a link to a url. Of the five menu items that work, three are links to url's, one is a component(which is set to public access) and one is a table-content section.

I've searched this forum and others and found similar problems with accessing articles that are set to registered access, and I've tried all the suggestions to fix the issue I found in those threads and nothing has helped. I've tried trashing the menu links and recreating them, no luck, even after emptying the trash.

I'm guessing the whole issue has something to do with the time change, however, when I go to the global setttings in admin, the locale settings are correct. The correct date and time is displayed when I point at the little info icon next to the time offset setting, which is set at 0, by the way. (I've tried to offset it by 1 in either direction, with the same results.)

About the only thing I haven't tried is to uninstall and reinstall the components, but this really isn't an option because of all the hacks and modifications I've done to some of them. To have a look at what I mean, visit http://www.banditsfans.com. You can log into the test author account using the user ID tester2 and the password testing.

Any advice will be greatly appreciated as this site was supposed to be launched last week. I'm out of time and out of ideas. I'm using Mambo 4.5.2.3.

Thanks in advance for any assistance you can offer.

Deb

I think the problem you are having is due to the server time setting in Global Configuration which causes the login cookie to be expired before it is even used. If no offset is applied the time on the site should be set by the server's system time and I would expect no problems from leaving it at this default setting.

Cheers

Thanks for your reply ..

That's what I thought as well, however, the server date and time displays the correct time and date. Also, some of the menu items still work. I also have another menu that is completely set to registered, and that entire menu is still working as well. There's got to be something more to this problem, I just can't figure out what it is. Maybe something in the components settings somewhere? But don't they get the time date info from the global settings? I'm soo confused.

OK, desparation has set in with this issue. I absolutely must have this site launched by the end of this week. Since the last post, I've tried to uninstall and reinstall some of the components that have not been modified and that was no help. I've gone over all of the site's settings, all of the settings for all of the components and any other settings, including the settings on my computer - just in case, with a fine tooth comb. I can find nothing amiss.

My host is located in the same time zone as I am, so there should be no issues with the server time being something different than my local time. I have contacted my provider to see if anything has changed on the server, and am awaiting their reply.

Now that I'm nearly bald from pulling my hair out over this for more nearly 10 days, I'm now about to begin the process of backing up the entire site to attempt to reinstall mambo for lack of anything else left to try.

As best I can tell, something is causing the session cookie to be expired as soon as it's set. Where in mambo is the user authentication/setting of the cookie handled? Is there a file I can look at that may still be using the standard time setting which is an hour later than our current day light savings time?

I'd really like to avoid a complete reinstall if at all possible. I have no experience with mysql or myphpadmin and am not in the least bit comfortable with playing around in there. We've added well over 400 articles and many components, some of which have been hacked quite a bit to get them to do what I want them to do. I really don't want to risk doing something stupid and losing all this work.

Besides the obvious rework that will be involved, I also need to know what caused this issue so that I don't go through this again in April when our time zone reverts back to standard time.

Anyone have any clues for me? I'm lost, and willing to try just about anything to get this issue resolved.

Thanks in advance for your assistance.

Deb

I just thought I'd let you all know that nothing, including a complete reinstall of mambo corrected the problem I was having above. Out of sheer desparation and lack of any other route to take, I migrated the site to Joomla at about 3:00 this morning. Much to my surprise, once I got all the files copied over, tables renamed etc ..... the login problem was corrected!

I don't know what's different in the way that Joomla handles the session cookies or where it gets it's time from, but whatever changed corrected the problem.
