090 - Identify and document frequently asked questions in the Joomla! 1.0 Genera

Post by klausth » Thu Nov 29, 2007 10:45 pm

Hello!

I claimed this task.
I'm watching this forum for a period of 24 hours and looking for the frequently asked questions.

To my person:
I'm a student in Austria (Europe). My school is like a high school in the U.S. and we learn here programming, webdesign and some other things, which are less interesting.
[me=AmyStephen]Changed subject slightly for sorting all threads to match against Google resource  :)[/me]

Welcome to Joomla! and thanks for joining the GHOP Contest.

Building a good FAQ is really important to an open source community. Volunteers typically answer people's questions in the forums. If you talk to those who have helped in the forums for any length of time, they will tell you, many of the same questions are asked over and over and over.

One idea that could produce helpful results would be for you to review the Joomla! v 1.5 General Questions Forum. Already, there are 11,529 Posts and 2,862 Topics! If you spent some time reviewing many of those topics, you would start seeing repeated questions emerge. Those are the types of questions and answers we are hoping you will find and document for the contest. If you are able to pull out important issues, your work will be valuable to people all over the world!

Good luck with the contest. Feel free to ask questions and let us know if you need assistance.
Amy :)

Sorry, you posted the link to the 1.5 General Forum. But my job is to find frequently asked questions in the 1.0 General Forum.

Copied from Google Task.
Now I have 3 FAQs:

How do I remove the Joomla image from the browser adress bar?
This image is called favicon and is located in ../images/favicon.ico
Just replace the image with your own image or logo.

Asked at: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,241387.0.html

Where I can find a demosite which is using Joomla?
Here you can find a list of some sites using Joomla:
http://joomlaplace.org/index.php/Joomla%21_Websites
http://JoomlaPlace.org
http://www.therighteouspath.org/joomlademo/ (username: demo | password: demo)

Asked at: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,232895.0.html

How I can stop search engine bots indexing my site?
Change the file robots.txt in your root-directory. You have to add:
Disallow: /

Might be nice to have a few more, if possible.

Remove --> http://joomlaplace.org/index.php/Joomla%21_Websites (It's just JoomlaPlace.org).

Looks like three good ones, though!

Another FAQ:

What should I do if the image upload fails?
Check your CHMOD settings for the folders.
Here is a document, which describes the folder permissions and CHMOD settings: http://forum.joomla.org/index.php/topic,121470.0.html

klaus -

Will you please take all of your FAQs, including any additional you might have found, put them into one .odt document (using Open Office Writer) and attach it to your post?

That way, we can do your final review.

Thanks!
Amy :)

Do you mean here AND/OR the Google Code site? I posted the .odt document at both places.
You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.

Thank you, Klaus.

Once another judge has had the opportunity to review and approve this entry, we will close the task.

Looks like Polish folks ask different questions frequently. I won't be useful here in this case. Only thing I can say is the list looks a bit short ;)
...And the first one doesn't answer the question.

It was my job to review ONE 24 HOUR PERIOD the Joomla 1.0 general board for FAQ.
What do you mean with "...And the first one doesn't answer the question."?

I agree that 24h can be not representative.

As for the first question:
"How do I remove the Joomla image from the browser address bar?"
You don't say how to remove only how to replace. You also don't mention possible replacement formats which would be useful since .ico isn't so easy to handle as the other. You also don't mention where you can change the name or where to put the file for this to work.
Hope this helps you to improve your work.
Good luck,

klausth -

I will accept this task as complete.

To be honest, it was not a very good effort. If you choose to take a second task with Joomla!, we will expect a lot more interaction in the forums. You should get a thread immediately. Share your work every 2 or 3 days. Ask for input. Bring back revisions.

Working in an open source project means interacting and working with a community. The community can help you strengthen your work, but you have to give them the opportunity to do so.

This could have been a far better entry had you taken that time.

Task closed. You are free to choose another task. This time, though, with more enthusiasm! ;)

Amy :)
