Is anyone using a video player that is working successfully with 1.5RC4? The one I was using for RC3 won't work with RC4.

Thanks

Read the thread for updates regarding AllVideos!

Ok, a litte self-advertising here: http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/allvideos15/frs/?action=FrsReleaseView&release_id=6251
I developed it with latest SVN and just tested it successfully with 1.5RC4 so i just released a second version. It now has support for all the video formats from the old version plus several new features.

The reason why I still call it alpha is because the documentation is yet to be updated (currently a copy from the old original for J!1.0.x) and the german translation is incomplete/missing. But if you are familiar with the old famous AllVideos mambot, you should have no difficulties using it. It is completely compatible - no need to change any content. I'm working on those two issues right now and will release a first beta in a few days.

Thanks, I was able to get a wmv file to work, but couldn't get a flv file to work using a video converted with RIVA. Any ideas?
Also, with a previous video player I was using, they provided a mod with the plugin that I could install that alllowed for smoother integration of video into modules on sites. Any plans for something like this from AllVideo?

Well, actually flv usually works better than other media. So what happened? Did the player not show up or did it sit there with it's rotating "loading" icon spinning forever? In the first case, check you tag-spelling. In the latter case: It does this, if the flv wasn't found or is located on another domain without a proper crossdomain.xml. or - of course - if the flv itself is damaged. What I do when this happens: I use firebug (debugging extension for firefox) and look in the 'Net' tab for the request of the flv. There in the 'Headers' section you can see if the flv was loaded at all. If it was loaded, then there's a problem with the file itself otherwise it is usually a typo in the name or similar. You can send me your flv if you like. Just contact me via PM.

At a later time, yes. But for now, I'm focusing on getting the existing plugin towards a stable release.

Cheers
-Fritz

Later:
Please file a bug report at http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/allvideos15/tracker/?action=TrackerItemBrowse&tracker_id=6870,
attach the flv to it and also copy&paste the markup you used into the report.
Thanks
-Fritz

I just uploaded it to mu joomla 1.5 rc4 server and it works perfectly.  Thank you for the quick upgrade of this awesome plugin.

I still can't get it to play flash videos for some reason. I tested by putting the code in regular html and it worked fine.
I can get wmv to work fine with this module. My preference is flv. Any ideas? I get a blank screen, nothing when enabling flash video.

Not trying to be a smarta@@, but I had similar troubles when I used it with my joomla 1.0.13 site and the problem was 2 things.  (1) the file name had both upper and lower case and I didn't have it correct in the usage tag (2) don't include the .flv extension in the usage tag.  For example, if the video file is "test1.flv" then the usage tag would be {flv}test1{/flv}.

I hope this helps, like I said, I wasn't try to be a smart alec.

Your not being a smart ass, just providing suggestions which is appreciated.
I am already following the correct format, and still nothing. I mentioned that I didn't see anything previously, and that was incorrect.
I do see the player, but it doesn't play anything.

I'll keep at it. Hopefully I'll have positive results soon.
As I figured, it was something simple that I was missing, "/" missing in subdirectory. Thanks all, working now.

installed fine, but when i enabled the plugin, this error took up the whole screen:

Parse error: syntax error, unexpected T_STRING, expecting T_OLD_FUNCTION or T_FUNCTION or T_VAR or '}' in /home/****/public_html/****/plugins/content/allvideos.php on line 22

any ideas?

RC4, plugin code is in a 'custom html' module like so:

{flv}name1{/flv}

thank you :)

(in case urgency not noted - help!) :)

The only other thing I can think of is the location of the video file.  By default, it is supposed to be located in the images/stories/videos folder, which you have to create the videos folder as it is not normally created when joomla is installed.  I think that there is supposed to be a command parameter that can be changed to relocated the default folder, but I haveen't tried it yet.  Other than that, I am out of ideas.  You might want to contact felfert directly as he is developing this extension and he should be able to help better than I.

What PHP version are you using? The line you are talking about reads:
    private static $version = '1.0alpha2';
which works well with my php 5.2.4. (The private keyword may cause problems with older PHPs - I didn't verify -)
In SVN, I already have removed all private attributes from the code. So you could either check out SVN or remove all private keywords in the code yourself. Anyway, on another site - where i used to have php 5.0.2 - I had massive problems with SEF and after upgrading to PHP 5.2.x they all went away so I strongly recommend upgrading PHP to a recent version if using Joomla 1.5 anyway.

thanks very much for looking into it.

just wondering, joomla help:

http://help.joomla.org/content/view/1938/310/

recommends php 4.4.7 and this is what i am using.  hmm but on the same page:

'It has been found that the best and most consistent results are achieved with the PHP 5.x series'.

Ok, i will ask my host to change it to their latest 5 series.  In general, could this change cause any probs in other areas?

thanks again :)

Well, I don't know why they recommend PHP 4.4.7, but if one looks at the tons of security issues that have been fixed in PHP during the last half year I'd stick to the newer stuff. Of course thats just my personal opinion.

Oh, and BTW: I just attached a modified allvideos.php for you to the tracker item you opened....

Please report back, if that one works with PHP 4.4.7.

Cheers
-Fritz

Ok, the error message looks slightly different now. (Before, it was complaining about T_STRING, now it's T_STATIC which means, it doesn't like the 'static' keyword as well) so I'm going to remove those a well .... will take ~10 mins as this is not so simple like the first one :-)

Hi felfert,

Good to see a video plugin like this for J!1.5 takin form! That great  :)
First tests worked fine, except some minor problems getting the players to initialize. (Works fine when first visiting player links and then refreshing). Will test more later.

A suggestion: When in alpha still, you could consider to change naming of this forked/improved extension to avoid issues when at some point submitting to be listed in Joomla! Extensions Directory. We can only encourage that this fork is renamed to have its own unique naming.
It will be an issue for us to approve a second listing with same naming, and its likely that original dev of the forked extension will create a 1.5 version of their current 1.0.x extension. So it will help you, us, and the users especially if a unique name was chosen.

@rw1: Plugins dont work in custom modules in J! 1.5

The internal tag is already renamed to avreloaded in SVN, the visible name in SVN is now "Content - AllVideos Reloaded". As this is a fork (nothing completely new),  at least, I want to pay some tribute to the original inventors of the old version.

Would that be ok?
-Fritz

Hi felfert,

The plugin works greaton my site running on joomla 1.5 RC4! I requested my hosting provider to upgrade from PHP 4.4.7 to 5.2.3.
but I got a problem after installation - the 'read more' link doesn't appear now. If I disable the All video plugin, the read more links work fine.

Just to clarify, in the back-end the editor puts a line - no problem. In the front-end the read more link doesn't show up at all.

I also found a thread where there was a similar issue with another video plugin and the fix (I coudln't understand the fix though :( ) - http://forum.joomla.org/index.php?topic ... _next=next

Please get my 'read more' links work along with this fabulous plugin. thanks.

Rohy.

Which version of the plugin are you using? (This should be fixed in the alpha2 release already?!)

I have downloaded the alpha2 file from the link you have given. I also checked in the plugin settings in my site and all I could find was 2.4 under Changelog tab.

Have I missed something? looks like I'm not running the proper version?
thanks for your time felfert.

As stated in the release notes, the documentation (including the changelog) is still the old one from the original Joomla 1.0.x version. I'm currently rewriting it. The current changelog is shown at the project site on joomlaforge only (seems dead as of right now  :-\). You can see the actual version of the plugin if you go to your backend's "Install/Uninstall Plugins" page an then select the "Plugins" tab.

But since you downloaded alpha2, I assume you do have the correct version. The fix of the other plugin you mentioned was moving the line which loads the swfobject.js JavaScript file into the head section of the document. You can verify this, if you look at the Source HTML text of your page. In the old version, the swfobject was inserted right before the first appearance of the video player code itself while in the new version, that line appears (together with any other JS-includes; mootools etc.) in the head part of the document.

Apart from that: I had similar problems even without my plugin when using SEF in combination with some templates. So this might be related...

If unshure, file a bug report (include an URL if possible as well as PHP-version, SEF-Settings and what template you are using) and i will see what i can do.

Cheers
-Fritz

OK everyone,

After a long night of debugging several issues related to PHP 4.4.7, I just released 1.0alpha3.
Apologies to all PHP4 users out there - i just tested on PHP5 only - until now.

The Changelog vs. alpha2:

  • Added missing evaluation of showvolume parameter.
  • Fixed #8824 (and several other incompatibilities with PHP 4.4.7) Thanks to Robin Wyllie (rw1).
  • Fallback to cURL in ripper if allow_url_fopen is disabled.
  • Added German translation of parameters/messages
  • Report nonfatal errors via messaging facility.
  • Reactivated dropshots after some tweaking.
  • Renamed plugin tag to avreloaded.
  • Made yahoo video working (never worked in original).

Get it at http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/allvideos15/frs/ while it's still hot  ;)

Right now, I'm heavily working on the documentation and when that's finished (a week or so), then the beast will be moved into beta state. ;-)

I also got a module working but that needs some more polishing until it can be released.

Have fun
-Fritz
