115 - Traditional Chinese Joomla! v 1.5 Installation Manual

Post by medicalwei » Mon Dec 03, 2007 3:08 pm

Hi. I am Medical-Wei (魏藥 in Chinese), a 17-year-old student.

I'll translate the installation manual into Traditional Chinese.

I have some questions:
1. Do I need to make a PDF version of the document?
2. If the Local Community already translated (or half-translated) the document, could I hand in that?

Welcome to Joomla! Medical-Wei!

We prefer to have the work made available in Open Office Writer .odt format.

It would be improper to use someone's completed translation. The contest entry really does need to be your work. In an open source community, people do work together cooperatively. Depending on the extent of work already accomplished, it could be acceptable to start with something already available. See if you can estimate what percent is already complete, and let us know. We can work with you, I am certain.

Do not hesitate to ask for help you might need. Also, please read the thread GHOP Contestants Please Read: Task Process Start to Finish, which will help you to understand the process we need to follow with the contest.

Good luck! Look forward to seeing your progress,
Amy :)

Could you tell me some details of the sentences below?
Caution: It is important to note that if you run more than one Web site on your server that the pathway to the root directory will change for each site – the other four settings will not necessarily have, or on shared hosting likely be able, to change.
It is in FTP Configuration chapter of Web Browser Installation.

medicalwei -

Sorry for the delay in responding to your question.

Let me see if I can explain that for you, without making it more confusing.

When people get purchase web space, they often place more than one website on their site. Maybe they will build a website for their family, their place of worship and for a community club they participate in. The folders of their website might look like

root
-- Family
-- Worship
-- CommunityClub

So, when they use FTP, they must specify the folder, needed, for each site (ex. Family, or Worship, or CommunityClub.)

The main point to emphasize is to include a folder name, if necessary.

How is your task proceeding? I saw you recommended for someone else a way to locate translator assistance. Have you been able to find anyone to assist you in your task?

Thanks for your work for the Joomla! community,
Amy :)

So, the other four settings which are unnecessary are FTP Username, Password, Address and its port number.
Is that right?

I could not find anyone else for the assistance of the translation.

Yes, that is correct.

Keep asking questions, as you have them. We will try to respond more quickly.

Thanks for your contributions!

How are you doing? Has this work now been reviewed? Have you heard back from Eddy?

If Eddy has not had a chance to review the work, yet, please upload it to your Google Task page and we will finalize the task. That way, you can select another, if you choose. Later, if Eddy has changes, I am certain you will help accommodate these into your work.

Let us know, please, where things are at.

Amy :)

He says that he is reviewing the documents I've translated. However, the local forum is under construction right now.

medicalwei -

It is such a busy time of year right now, with the holidays and also because Joomla! is nearing another RC or perhaps final version. So, I am guessing Eddy is simply busy at this time.

What I have done for some of the other contestants is to have them upload their final copy to Google and close the task. That way, you can move on and select another task, if desired.

I am certain that when Eddy returns you will apply any changes he recommends.

Thank you very much for this extremely important contribution to Joomla!,
Amy :)
