FTP Settings Not Saving In Global Configuration

Post by Lost-Joomler » Fri Mar 28, 2008 9:37 pm

I can manually save the config.php file via my CuteFtp Program but when I try to save the ftp settings in the global admin area interface I get the error message:

JFTP::write: Bad response
An Error has occurred! Unable to open configuration.php file to write!

The config.php file is set to 777

First I need to know if saving my ftp settings manually through my CuteFtp program instead of through the global admin panel can in any way have hidden negative affects for the functionality of my Joomla 1.5 installation or plugins?? (I was able to install Fireboard but I don't know if this will cause any hidden issues or not..)

If not cool, if so how do I save my ftp settings in global configuration area without getting errors? Please step by step tell me how...

Thank you
Frank

I had this same problem a while back, and from what I can remember I went into global configuration, server and set Enable FTP to "no" then i clicked on save. Went back in, entered my proper ftp info, clicked "yes" to enable and hit save and it worked.

Also make sure you have your ftp root correct!

Thanks but I just tried that and while it saved as "no" when I try to save ftp settings as "yes" I get the errors.

How is that possible for it to save successfully as "no" but will not save my desired settings to "yes"???

Have you tried manually entering the info into the configuration file?

Try the solution in the first post...

http://forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?t=225840

But set var $ftp_enable to a 1 instead of a 0.

Also when you make the changes in cuteftp and save, go back into the file and make sure they are really being saved, I have run into this problem using cuteftp.

Yep I had previously done all these....

I appreciate your input.

anybody else want to take a stab at it???

Basically the through the admin panel I cannot change my ftp settings.

It must be some sort of permission issue I would think?? What other files would be involved when saving ftp settings through admin panel besides config.php???
