Joomla!Day Brazil
Hello
The brazilian community is organizing the 1st Joomla!Day Brazil. We've had some community meetings before but this will be the 1st Joomla-only event organized by our community.
It will occur in São Paulo / SP. We haven't decided the date yet (probably it will occur in the second-halt of july, this year) once we are in the initial preparation part for this event.
I would like to hear from you which were the most popular subjects presented in other joomla!days around the globe so we can make sure they are present in our as well
I'll edit this post as soon as we've set a date or create an official hotsite to this event so you can get more info.
Cheers

Re: Joomla!Day Brazil
Dear Matheus,
one thing I can say from the events is that sessions with open talks e.g. with developers or designers are very helpful for all attendance. Other than that I suggest doing a kind of survey / suggestion process similar to the one Ryan does for the J!Day in USA.

Re: Joomla!Day Brazil
The number one session at Joomla!Day UK was Igor's presentation
I would strongy recommend encouraging a few participnts to present short (20 minute) emonstrations of their bet site.

Thanks Alex and Brian,
That 20 minute sessions are indeed a great idea!! I'm sure we have great cases in Brazil to be shared with the community.
I'm gonna contact Igor to see if he would like [and is available] to came to Brazil to participate on this event.

Re: Joomla!Day Brazil
Hi,
Tonie? Just send the logo to me and I get this approved. Normally Tonie has nothing to do with that ;-). It is a OSM matter to approve logos.
As I said, if you could summarize the information (e.g. venue, what is planed for the day) in one/two sentences here it would be lovely.
Cheers

Re: Joomla!Day Brazil
Alex, I've already sent you the logo and you forwarded it to Andy (I don't know what I was thinking when I said Tonie hehe). Anyway, you can check the logo in our website and see if it is a logo violation or not.
Now let me update you on what we are planning for the event:
- It's [most probably] going to be hosted in a hotel in São Paulo with a room for about 100 people (the exact place isn't confirmed yet)
- We are trying to make funds to bring Igor Dutra from London to present a session about the Porsche Brazil website (anyone whiling to help here?)
- There are going to be 2 or 3 short-sessions (20 minutes) with relevant cases that were created by brazilians (thanks Brian for suggesting).
- Maybe two technical sessions (one regarding templating and another focused on component development or the new j!1.5 framework...)
- A speech about SEO or ethics or community groups or anything "not that technical"....
We are thinking about how to encourage people to travel a lot (as you know, Brazil is a very wide country) to participate on J!day, so we are probably gonna provide a "training day" one day before (or after) the J!day. But that's gonna be a whole different event, we are just going to use the date proximity to try to attract more people.
We still didn't discussed anything about selling stuff like t-shirts, hats, books or anything... But depending on how many sponsors we get, we're gonna need to find someway to rise some money to help paying flying tickets (most of the speakers are far from São Paulo, like myself hehehe).
We also didn't decide how much we are going to charge (it will depends on the price of the restaurant that will provide the lunch and coffee break).
As you can see, we haven't decided much (but we do have discussed a lot about everything). Somethings might change until the event but I'll keep this thread up-to-date. If you have any question/suggestion please post here or contact me directly: bigodines@[email protected]

Is that a university? I was trying to understand the Portugese on the site. It is sort of similar to French which I speak, but still quite different.

No its not a university. There is an "about us" link in english in their site
Here's the oficial "about us" from SUCESU:
Here's the oficial "about us" from SUCESU:
SUCESU-SP is a non-profit organization, representative of the many different sectors of
Information and Communication Technology (ICT). Acting close to these markets since its
foundation, in January, 1967, it currently congregates professionals from a variety of directly
or indirectly ICT-related disciplines.
Affiliates and non-affiliates, suppliers and users, individuals and companies as well, find here an
ideal place for discussing and disseminating information related to leveraging business through
the use of technology. The active workgroups reflect those people's interest in a large number
of areas.
Periodic lunchtime meetings, featuring prominent speakers - especially from the governmental
sphere, gather circa one hundred entrepreneurs and other professionals of the industry searching
for novelties and trends that shall affect companies and their businesses.
A comprehensive event schedule - congresses, conferences, seminars, speeches, courses, and
other differentiated activities - encompassing the various ICT segments allows professionals to
obtain here the information they seek for their professional development, as well as to expand
their network of acquaintances.
Up to 150 speeches are presented yearly at the SUCESU-SP Convention Center. The auditorium,
featuring comfortable seating for 125 and a complete projection and sound infrastructure - and
its large reception area - can also be rented to companies interested in conducting closed
activities.

Thank you for your reply!
I found another thread in this forum regarding this same subject. There are many people around here shaking an moving to make it happen. I volunteered to create the new layout for the J!Day BR website. There is a national J!Day being prepared and a local event to be confirmed. The threads are in portuguese, so if you need some updates on what's going on here, just drop me a message once in a while and I'll let you know.
The idea of having a J!Day in Rio has already crossed my mind. Still I have to find and contact the local community.
Thak you for the support!!!!

Helvecio,
What are the possible dates? I am trying to cover for Alex a bit while he is on holidays. I do not know all the proceedures for getting a Joomla!Day approved by the Events Team, but will try to be as helpful as I can until Alex comes back.
I am unaware at to any current plans for Joomla!Day Brazil and if those plans have been discussed with Alex. Would you mind to fill me in with some details as to what is planned, the date etc? You do not need at this point to go into great details.
Can you provide the link where this is currently being discussed? I do not read Portuguese.
Thanks!

Hi Michelle!
Yep, we're discussing in portuguese!
If I can be of further help, just let me know!
Possible dates are around mid-august. Please, be aware there's already a group in Brazil who is working on the next brazilian J!Day. I'm not the person in charge. I'm still getting to know people. It seems like the person in charge is Ronildo (http://forum.joomla.org/memberlist.php? ... file&u=224). I think he can speak english. I'm looking forward to being in this event. I want to know more people who work with Joomla. I'm a designer and am very fond of the software!Michelle Bisson wrote:What are the possible dates? Probably the next brazilian J!Day will be held in São Paulo, Brazil's largest city, for the second time. In the Northeast of Brazil there's a plan to hold a local J!Day in Belem. I don't know Alex.Michelle Bisson wrote:I am unaware at to any current plans for Joomla!Day Brazil and if those plans have been discussed with Alex. Re: Joomla!Day Brazil
err... i think i've missed this thread. :/
About this year's J!Day Brazil:
Joomla!Day Brazil is taking place on Aug. 16th. (date confirmed) We already got the place (same room we used last year, for 120 people). The site is also live and updated (in portuguese): http://www.joomladaybrasil.org/2008/
Some interesting case studies this year.
AFAIK, the agenda is almost defined. I guess there are two or three sessions undefined but things are on their way.
Registrations should be open by the middle of july.
