index.php could not be found on this server.
Hi I am new to Joomla 1.5 and my site is working fine. After i installed it from my web hosting automatic install panel. however when i log in and try to set Global Settings like example setting site to go off line and changing off line message i get the following error:
Not Acceptable
An appropriate representation of the requested resource /site/administrator/index.php could not be found on this server.
I tried reading the help and it said something about the file being unwritable but still can be for certain site things and goes back to auto unwritable. Its not working and i would like to make these global settings can some one help me as to why it is doing this. My site is installed under a folder named site on my server so id access it http://www.mysite/site/administrator.
Thanks Much

HI there,
I have the same error, did you find a solution to this?
My error occurs when trying to save Global Configurations.
Thanks

Re: index.php could not be found on this server.
Have you enabled .htaccess file in the joomla_root/ directory and ensured mod rewrite is on, and set the Enable Mod_rewrite setting in Global Configuration.
Also check that the variable var $live_site = '' is completed with the full URL of your site

Re: index.php could not be found on this server.
Hi,
I'm having a similar problem. When I login through the frontend I get a 406 Not Acceptable error:
"An appropriate representation of the requested resource /index.php could not be found on this server."
By pressing the back button on the webpage I return to the login page, but find myself actually logged in.
This error only happens when I login through the frontend, nowhere else.
I followed the suggestions on this post, but nothing fixed it.
1. I enabled .htaccess in the root directory and enable Mod_rewrite in the global configuration
2. $live_site is complete with the full URL
I'm running J1.5.1
PHP 5.2.6
Apache 2.0.63
MySql 4.1.22
Any ideas?

Re: index.php could not be found on this server.
Hello,
I have the same issue.
I have enabled the .htaccess file. But where can I find the mod rewrite and the Mod_rewrite setting in Global Configuration? I am using Joomla 1.5.7. Many thanks!

Currently I edit the configuration.php directly to get the thing done.Have you enabled .htaccess file in the joomla_root/ directory and ensured mod rewrite is on, and set the Enable Mod_rewrite setting in Global Configuration.
Also check that the variable var $live_site = '' is completed with the full URL of your site

Re: index.php could not be found on this server.
Just wanted to let people know my fix for this.
The article text contained a % symbol.
I changed it to the word 'percent' and the error went away.
