Here is a list of Template Tutorials. Feel free to reply to this thread with a link to a template tutorial, but please use the Templates forum to ask specific how to questions.

I'll start the list with my contribution:

tutorial overview:

currently this template tutorial is for the current release ( mambo 4.5.2 ) and will be updated accordingly( plans to do a div only (tableless) version next)

In this guide, we will be creating a 100% width 'autostretch' 3 column table layout. This will introduce you to the directory structure of a template, includes all copy/paste code snips for including the mambo specific elements in the template (module positions, mainbody, pathway, etc)

i also give specific instruction to use my dreamweaver template extension, but also you can optionally use the FREE plugin for HTML Kit, which is does the same job. Links are to be found in the tutorial.

Hi,

You may want to check out the Nvu WYSIWYG HTML editor (a development on the Mozilla Suite HTML editor, available at http://www.nvu.com), plus the template building extension from Open4G (http://www.open4g.com/content/view/13/29/).

Nvu is supposed to be the open source Dreamweaver/Frontpage killer, so why bother with the commercial stuff?

If you are looking for a free version of a nice editor, try HtmlKit. Also a mambo template plugin for it .

mamboforge is back online, and yes this will also work for Joomla templates ( 1.0.4)

^^for those who needs a quicker way to make a favicon without opening any .ico editor like microangelo, etc.

Whenever someone asks me about css I show them a few clicks at the csszengarden It's not specific to mambo/joomla but I don't think there is a better place to get an introduction to the power and flexibility of css and their css resources are amazing.

Hi Guys which among the list is for a joomla template editing specific? im seeing always mambo.... i though i was in mambo forum.. :'(

does any one know here a link or tutorial about modifying exsting template or creating one simple mambo template?

At the moment there is no appreciable difference between Mambo and Joomla in terms of template functionality.

Mambo, as stated by its policy document, will be reducing the functionality and customisability of template architecture in the medium to long term, supposedly to stop security issues (which seems more wild conjecture on Team Mambo's part from where I stand, but that's my opinion).. but that's hopefully a while off

At the moment, all the tutorials allow you to build for both.

Has anyone actually used these options? They sound nice and all but are there any real world reviews?

I'm sorry, probably it's stupid question, but

How can I upload my template to Joomla!/Mambo? :-[

I tried to do it through Template Manager (admin side)... failed :'(

So I'm looking for step-by-step instruction for uploading templates...

Not a stupid question at all,

Unpack your rar/zip file, and you should se a folder with the template name.
With an ftp programme, simply upload the template, to yoursite/templates, and in the backend of your site, assign the new template, or make it default.
