Hi, i have not changed the background yet so I not know, but the links can be found in overall_header.html on line 141 and thereafter. I too did not use joomla as my install dir and had to change
Code:
<li><a href="../joomla" class="mainlevel-nav" >Home</a></li>
on line 141....

When i find out regarding the background ill post again.

Noob question.

If I follow these steps, but I have a different template than the default J! Milkyway, will it work?

I already have my phpBB3 default template set to match my Joomla one, and have it wrapped up. I don't want to break anything, IYKWIM. Could someone take a look and tell me if I should attempt this bridge, or just leave it alone? I would be appreciative of some mentoring.

Thanks bunches.

Hi, i have replied to you other post regarding integrating phpBB3. I am only using the default template that's packaged with 1.5.2 at the minute also its also added as the theme for phpBB3. I hope to be able to template phpBB3 to suit most templates but at the moment I'm a little busy getting my site open and testing different templates and applying the template theme to phpBB3 but its not easy.

No you have to theme phpBB3 to suit your theme editing overall_footer.html and overall_header.html in the phpB3 template/style folder etc...

Using it the way you have now has a little bookmark problem. If you bookmark a thread thats interesting and close your browser then open the bookmark again it takes you to the forum root and not the page you bookmarked originally.

I cannot say this bridge will work for you! I am testing it and hoping to use it when my site is open. We both have an interest making a theme to suit our J! template and hopefully i can help when i can grasp whats needed.

Regards...

Okey-dokie, pixellated. Thanks so much for the reply and the help. I will stay subscribed to this topic, so please do let us know how you do!

I am not so worried about the bookmarking problem... phpBB3 has a bookmark thread option, and I can include the instructions for using that in the introductory forum topic... but this just looks jerry-rigged how it is, and I am trying to portray an image (on an admittedly short shoestring budget).

I really just love the community that surrounds these Open Source projects. Getting and giving help is so rewarding for everyone, and makes the project stronger. Fabulous!

Thanks again!

Jenn

Hi i never had this problem, but i did create new admin account before i merged the accounts. This is what i did. Installed phpbb3 first and created another admin account, then installed joomla and did the nessersary changes and it worked fine. You can see my forum by clicking my homepage link on my profile. I think i will make a detailed guide on doing the full install starting from scratch.

Sorry i could not more help.

hello, first you may use your own template but yes, you must edit your template on your own
it is fine, it has nothing to do with the bridge program itself

you should not lose anything but i urge you as the author IOSetting, does too, you should backup everything before you begin the bridge

i installed this on my own but i removed it because I do not like joomla, the updates takes hours,i meant the joomla itself, so i removed the site completely.

but yes, don't worry, it should gets well if you do follow the instruction

i will, recommend you, do a testing site , use a testing site to do the bridge testing, and get to know the steps

only one concern is your admin account

from what i know is that you should create another admin account via and on phpBB3

after the installtion use the new admin account to login both sites, then you use your old admin, should works fine

Hi
I'm trying to integrate phpBB into joomla,
The database part works great however, the most inposted thing for me is the layout.
I find out this step failes:
1. COPY <bridge file>/phpbb_files/styles/prosilver/template/overall_header.php, overall_footer.php TO <phpbb3 root>/styles/prosilver/template

I replaces the files with the files in the zip file.
But when I view the source I don't see this lines
Quote:
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/template.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/blue.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/blue_bg.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/print.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" title="printonly" />

wich should be there because the new overall_header.html

Can somebody help me,

thanks

Bart

hey there
i don't understand one thing
why are you checking the source?
i mean, wait, are you just viewing the source via the browser, or you mean you opened the file?

i suppose you are viewing the source via the browser

and remember, that's overall_header.html

The author wrote it wrong, not .php

anyway, i just downloaded the package
i opened overall header html
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="{T_TEMPLATE_PATH}/styleswitcher.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="{T_TEMPLATE_PATH}/forum_fn.js"></script>
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/template.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/blue.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/blue_bg.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/print.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" title="printonly" />
<link href="{T_STYLESHEET_LINK}" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen, projection" />

<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/normal.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/medium.css" rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A+" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/large.css" rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A++" />

remember
go to ACP --> style --> template -> refresh -->
Theme --> refresh
General -- > clean cache

and also, clean your browser cache
but i don't see anything wrong with viewing the source via the browser
it will still give you the same result,
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="{T_TEMPLATE_PATH}/styleswitcher.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="{T_TEMPLATE_PATH}/forum_fn.js"></script>
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/template.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/blue.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/blue_bg.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/print.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" title="printonly" />
<link href="{T_STYLESHEET_LINK}" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen, projection" />

<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/normal.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/medium.css" rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A+" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/large.css" rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A++" />

Thanks for you're replay

I overwrite overall_header.html because overall_header.php don't exist in the download.
I think my explanation before wasn't clear.
I cleared my cache and checked with firefox and internet explorer.
When I'm checking the source row 68 displays this:
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="./styles/prosilver/template/styleswitcher.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="./styles/prosilver/template/forum_fn.js"></script>

<link href="./styles/prosilver/theme/print.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" title="printonly" />
<link href="./style.php?sid=0e8c69828fc193b02209fd23eabb3cac&amp;id=1&amp;lang=en" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen, projection" />

<link href="./styles/prosilver/theme/normal.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A" />
<link href="./styles/prosilver/theme/medium.css" rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A+" />
<link href="./styles/prosilver/theme/large.css" rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A++" />

But in the new overall_header.html line 76 is showing me this
Code:
<script type="text/javascript" src="{T_TEMPLATE_PATH}/styleswitcher.js"></script>
<script type="text/javascript" src="{T_TEMPLATE_PATH}/forum_fn.js"></script>
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/template.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/blue.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/blue_bg.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/print.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="print" title="printonly" />
<link href="{T_STYLESHEET_LINK}" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" media="screen, projection" />

<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/normal.css" rel="stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/medium.css" rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A+" />
<link href="{T_THEME_PATH}/large.css" rel="alternate stylesheet" type="text/css" title="A++" />

I'm sorry,

I missed this
remember
go to ACP --> style --> template -> refresh -->
Theme --> refresh
General -- > clean cache

I will try this When I'm back but I have to go now

oh, the reason is very simple

{THEME_PATH}
if you see anything likes this
they are just value defined in phpBB

this is how flexible things are getting to be

if you still use those old html coding,
you will have to say

./style/prosilver/template/overall_header.html

now, since we take a shortcut, let the phpBB defined it, so that the database can keep track, and when the brwoser request it
the database will take the task and ask the system, what is the current theme, and then check if the path is the same as the server path
if so, it wil display the template

now if you change to subsilver
you still use {theme_path) and stuff like that
because it still define just a variable, to ask the system, what the hack is the current theme
and barbaabbababrbarbar, generate the results....

if not, it will return to a fatal error

the browser source generate the result from the database, the value defined

this is a good thing for you to debug anything error with the path or any value

and if you take a look

(U_INDEX}
and {L_INDEX} are two variable defined in phpBb
one is the langauge (the word Index)
the other is the link to Index

these are php defined
so check out php files, you will understand it

Thanks,
Everything works fine now.
I included my default css from my joomla template directory,
I still have two qeustions.
The first one is:
My search function does'nt work with firefox. for some reason I can't click the inputfield.
in IE it works fine.
My second question is:
Is it possible to match my mainmenu from the forum whit my site mainmenu?
So I don't have te make menuchanges twice?

I have the same question. How do I figure this out?

3. Install the plugin in folder /plugins/user
4. Modify the 'phpbb db prefix' property of 'User-phpbb3' in Plugin Manager, it's 'phpbb_' by default

What the heck does this mean? I went into my FTP opened up the pulgins folder for joomla, went to users, and dropped the plugins folder from the download into the users folder. Then when I went to my plugins on my joomla site, I did not see 'User-phpbb3' so I dont know how to edit it. I am not doing something right?

1. the search function should works fine with firefox
currently i have firefox 3.0.0
but that shouldn't have any changing from 2.0.14 to 3.0.0

2. this main menu desgin, is not part of the hack
according to the new overall_header.html the author provided to you
you can just edit the following to get a simple menu working

but if you want your original menu or header from joomla page, you need to include that on your own

Code:
                                 <li><a href="../joomla" class="mainlevel-nav" >Home</a></li>
                                 <li><a href="#" class="mainlevel-nav" >Features</a></li>
                                 <li><a href="#" class="mainlevel-nav" >News</a></li>
                                 <li><a href="/forum" class="mainlevel-nav" id="active_menu-nav" >The Community</a></li>

first, let me explain your second question

all you have to do is, make temp writable 777 chmod
then, compress the following files into a ZIP compression
phpbb3.php
phpbb3.xml
the name of the ZIP file is user.zip

now, go to your Install / uninstall
you will see the following, simply, upload that user.zip and it will tell you Install successfully
Quote:
Upload Package File
Package File:

now, go back to your temp, and chmod it to 755, not 777

follow the rest of the install guide and then you should get it work
any question just tell me, remember you should start a new joomla and a new phpbb for testing before you do any bridging

but there is a problem with the user id in this plugins

for your first question
if you are using this mod
it should be your phpbb user, cuz you disable the joomla user

I know that this going to sound noobish but how do I make a temp writable 777 chmod? Are you saying to basically copy the joomla or phpbb file and change it to 777? I am really confused on this. I think I know what you are talking about but I am not sure.

are you testing it on local
or you are using a webhost
if you are using a webhost
you should use FTP to make chmod to 777 (or via file manager from cpanel..)
if you are testing in local, you don't have to
because by default it is 777

tell me your status
how do you upload those folders and stuff like that

I am using a server through hostgator.com and that is where I uploaded Joomla. I use an FTP to upload all my files called FileZilla.

Right now I am running a test Joomla and a test forum to see if I get this to work before I do it for real.

I know that when I right click on joomla.php or any other file like that in plugins/user in my ftp, I can click File Attributes and there I click the various check boxes. When I do that I can change it to 777 instead of 775. I am assuming that is what you mean by changing it to 777 but I dont know how to make a temp writable chmod. Would it be alright if I just upload the phpbb.php and phpbb.xml and change them to 777 and then zip the phpbb.php and phpbb.xml files I have on my computer and then go to install/uninsitall on my joomla site and install them from there?

hey my friend
you did it
yes
just do what you did

writable = 777
so type in 777 when you right click file attribute on temp
777 is the numerical value for writable

you can chmod it back to 755 when you finish installing it

just in case any security holes, so it's always better to set temp back 755 in my opinion
not really
you should make those two files, like i said, put them into archieve format

so you zip phpbb3.php and the xml files --> user.zip
you get what i mean?
then you go to your administration panel
follow what i wrote above, and choose that user.zip

browse your pc, and pick the user.zip
that's what i mean by upload

Never mind. I fixed it. I do have one more question. After I have installed the user.zip file and disabled joomla_user and enabled phpbb_user, is there anything else I need to do?

from what i know, that there is a problem with the user id
but i am going to leave this either tmr or next day
since i have a exam tmr

what i suggest you to do is to log out both joomla account (not just from the admin panel, but click log out from the index) and phpbb admin account

then login the admin account on joomla first
and see if phpbb will get the admin account on, too

test several ways and see the results
