Re: Change 'read more' text
I don't know about the other person, but I'm trying in 1.5.7, and it's driving me crazy. The only instructions I've found involve the Language Manager, but that's not working for this version.
Thanks in advance!

language/en-gb/en-gb.ini
Note you may also need to check multiple files in your templates directory if it doesn't change after changing in this file.

Re: Change 'read more' text
I looked there after seeing the other thread, but can't find the other files mentioned in the other thread. I don't think it's the template, but I could be wrong. Do I change it in every instance in the .ini file?
Thanks,
Melissa

Re: Change 'read more' text
So is there some way to change the "Read More" text? I guess it should be a feature request to have the option to change the text, but that's not helping me right now. I just don't know inherently what files I'm supposed to be changing for this.
Thanks.
Melissa
Thanks.

Re: Change 'read more' text
There is a FAR easier way to do this without changing your core files.
When creating your articles click on Parameters (Advanced) on the right-hand side of the screen.
Right at the bottom of that section there is a field marked Alternative Read More Text.
Just put what you want to see in that box. You can change it to suit your articles that way.
You can see examples of this on my website's front page. Each 'Read More' link is appropriate to the content of the article.
Hope that helps.

Re: Change 'read more' text
You can find the file in:joomla root dir\components\com_content\views\frontpage\tmpl,and edit the file such as default_item.php,default.php and replace "read more" to other phrases. this is for the frontpage, for category, you can edit the files in:joomla root dir\components\com_content\views\category\tmpl.

Lol. Not at all - the External Underpant Effect has been well documented since the 1950s

Re: Change 'read more' text
The quickest way to do this without changing any of the actual joomla files is to navigate to your article, and select advanced parameters at the botom of the parameters you have Alternative Read more: text: change this to whatever you wish.

Re: Change 'read more' text
Sometimes with specific template, Changing 'read more' text isn't just easy. I have experienced with this mess when working with several templates.
In this case, just jump to language file locates inside root folder. Navigate to your currently language. Then edit the 'read more' text to what ever you want.

Re: Change 'read more' text
The alternative "Read More Text" in the article options still does not give you full control --it merely appends your new text to the article title instead of the default "Read More:".
For example, if your article title is:
'Annual Meeting Coming Up October 23rd at Municipal County Library'
And you put 'Meeting Details...' for the alternative text, then the button on your landing page will read:
'Meeting Details... Annual Meeting Coming Up October 23rd at Municipal County Library'
---you have no control over the length of the button, and in multi-column displays where display width is narrow, this can create real headaches. Especially in fluid layouts. The problem is so bad that I manually code blog layout pages to get them to display like they should; which is 10x more work and defeats the purpose of having a content manager in the first place.
In my opinion, this is dysfunctional. I would like to see full control over the button text and stop appending the title. Problem=solved.

I agree with bigspot... full control over the button text... as when i change the read more text all it gives me is the long title page...

Re: Change 'read more' text
Agreed. One shouldn't have to go into the files to change text on something so UX related, which is altered frequently.
