You need to put your post in the 1.0 forum.

Having chased this problem myself for ages I have found a solution but only if your running your set-up under Plesk. In the interests of security I had created a 2nd ftp account for everyone but myself to use - only to discover that the current version of Plesk doesn't support more than 1 ftp account so every time I tried to upload either thru Media Manager or the Article Creation page button the server rejected the connection. As soon as I switched the ftp info in Global Config to my main ftp account it worked. Hope this helps.

1.5.3? You mean 1.5.2, right?

Obviously, disabling flash uploader / enabling ftp is not a solution for everyone. At least not for me and I don't believe I'm the only one with this problem.

Any other suggestions, maybe this will be adressed in 1.5.3?

@Devs, should I file a bug report?

Or simply use the Joomla Flash Uploader for a complete upload solution.

1.5.3 is released, I missed that. Anyway, the changelog says nothing about upload fixes.

@Michael: The flash uploader does not work for me, I still can't create folders and upload something into them ...

Do you have safe mode enabled? Because directories created there would have the problem that you cannot upload images in there and JFU does therefore not allow this.

Yes, Safe Mode is enabled. And no, I can't and don't want to disable it (shared hosting provider w. plesk).

Besides, permissions and ownership of the created directories look good (please read this thread and my other one here: viewtopic.php?f=431&t=280339&start=0&st=0&sk=t&sd=a )

I know this problem. most of your directories are created by the ftp user and some then by the php user. But I don't understand why you have this problem with e.g. JFU. because it would create a folder with the php user.

Hi
I am coming late to this discussion, but having a similar problem as follows:

Using standard Joomla! 1.5.3, FTP set to 'on' using my main FTP account, default editor (Tiny MCE 2.0), logged in to the front end with a 'manager' level user, I cannot upload images when editing a page.

I CAN however upload images with the same user in the backend, via the Media Manager and also from editing an article.

If I set Enable Flash Uploader to 'Off' then when I log in to the Front end of the site and try to upload an image, once upload is complete it displays the content of the page I am editing in the popup window, instead of the Image Loader utility.

If I set Enable Flash Uploader to 'On' I can browse for and upload an image, and it says Uploading completed but the image is not present in my images/stories folder. It's a 2k gif.

This problem ONLY occurs in the front end. Can someone please suggest to me what I am doing wrong?

Also by the way, the image uploader popup window (PC, Mozilla Firefox 2.0.0.14) is not deep enough and I must scroll to see anything below the Browse Files button. Can I somehow resize the window? It has no resize handles.

Thanks very much

I had the same problem. One day I uninstall all macromedia suite (including flash) and I update to flash 9 and now work fine.

Perhaps this information can help you!

Thx for the tip. I checked and I am already on Flash 9.
I had another tinker and now I see that I the image is now uploaded, but I cant see it, as all the image folders show as empty. When I FTP in to check, the image is there though.

So is it common error in J!1.5.3?
I upload all images via FTP client, that's the temporary solution for me.

No... There's a MAJOR security vulnerability in 1.5.3...

So, a while back in this thread, a few people pointed out concerns with suhosin and how it interferes with the flash uploader causing a login screen to appear when the upload fails:

Quote:
We had exactly the same problems (in Holland with a Dutch Joomla installation). Uploads disappearing and/or being logged out after the upload. We came to the conclusion that these problems are related to the server settings of our hosting provider. This provider has installed a third party security app called Suhosin which limits several php functions. Although this provider (denit.nl, a major provider in Holland) was unable (unwilling?) to trace the problem my guess is that a Suhosin setting is somehow interfering with the joomla php upload code.
We simply solved these issues by swithing to another hosting provider who doesn't use Suhosin or a similar php limiting app.

I am running a dedicated server (RHEL5) and just recompiled apache to include suhosin (php5, apache 2.2, suexec, suphp, mod_security). As soon as I included suhosin in php, the flash uploader stopped working (something to do with the session failing, I suppose).

Are there any tweaks that ought to be applied to ensure the proper functioning of suhosin with the Flash Uploader?

guysmiley, I have installed joomla in several hostings. (5 different hosting providers aprox)

I have three joomla installed in a server with Suhosin patch (two differente hosting providers) and I can confirm your supposition.

In the past I have other problems with uploads, but I have fixed sucessfull this problem (wrong permissions, update my flash player, desactivate SecFilterEngine, etc).

I prefer disable flash upload system and to continue with the traditional form upload for less headcaches.

I here you...

However, I'm running a dedicated server for a school board and we are looking at Joomla! as a solid possibility for our teaching staff pages/web content. Having the ability to upload multiple files at once using the Flash uploader is critical.

I started a new post on this (suhosin conflicts with Flash Uploader) here:

These are exactly my experiences ... and all of my customers do not mind that if they have the "extra" security for the price of a bit comfort. :-)

Having been in/out of the Joomla loop for a few years, this approach does not jive with my understanding of the professional approach of the Joomla core team. I believe that they would expect this would work, and really should work.

Please see the thread I linked to above if you'd like to continue this conversation so this one isn't tainted further. :-[

For those who have troubles with suhosin and the flash uploader, locate the file suhosin.ini (if it exists) or php.ini and add this inside:

suhosin.session.encrypt = Off

Restart the server.

IE works for both html and flash;

Firefox only works with html still?

Why don't you add that to the troubleshooting 1.5 page of the wiki?
