How to retrieve password for Mailman

Post by tfuller » Fri Oct 31, 2008 3:20 pm

When the new Joomlacode look and feel went online I started receiving commits bounces from mailman but have no password to admin this.

Is there a lost password link for Mailman lists?

If mailman uses a database and you can access it through say PHPMYADMIN you can change the password .

For details on how to genreate a password in the correct format for mysql go here

Thanks for the reply. I don't have access to the mailman db though. Its something through JoomlaCode admin of my project but only to create maillists and administrate them.

There is no easy way to retrieve a password for mailman other than looking through your inbox for when the password was first emailed to you. I've had to do this myself with a few of the lists that I have to find the password.

Thanks, Sam. Unfortunately, I didn't create the commits bounce mail list from my SVN, it just started showing up. I also tried the password I received for the updates maillist doesn't work.

Is there a way to delete and recreate these maillists?

Thanks,

Tom

The commits mailing list is automatically created when you start a new project and the password emailed to you. The commit messages are probably bouncing because they haven't been approved and the email addresses don't exist. Recreating the list should resolve things.

To manage the mailing lists go to the 'Lists' link on your project page on the left navigation bar. You'll need to make sure the 'mailing list' plugin is enabled for the project, you can check this on the admin page. If it isn't enabled, you won't see the "Lists" option. Even if its disabled, this doesn't disable the lists that have been created previously (or even automatically).

Once you're on the Lists page, underneath 'Links' is an 'Admin' link. From here you should be able to delete the mailing list and recreate it. I'd suggest that you wait an hour between deleting and creating the new one so that JoomlaCode has a chance to delete the old list from mailman, the mail routing system and a few other smaller places. It'll also take a while for the list to kick in. By creating the list it should send an email to your account with the password.

Thank you so much. I have deleted them and will try to recreate them a bit later.

In creating a new maillist, how do you make it to send a notice to me of an update to the SVN like I had before (I just couldn't get into administrate that list so I deleted it)?

I can't seem to see that option in the MailMan admin interface.

Presuming that you created the mailing list the exact same name the commit hook should just send an email to the relevant address when it happens. So [email protected] should work fine.

Thanks, Sam. That was the information I needed. I set up the new maillist and hopefully now the commits will come to me and I'll actually be able to admin the list!

At some point, a help site or something would be great for this wonderful service. I know how pressed everyone is for time, just a suggestion!

:-)
