Best Ad Management

Post by budaspam » Sat Feb 14, 2009 10:02 am

Does anyone know of an ad management plug-in that will optimize banner and text ads based on the highest bids. We already use Google Adsense to do this, but sometimes individual advertisers approach us and want to buy a banner ad...and they are willing to pay more than what we'd make on Google.

If this only happend sometimes, there would be no problem. We would simply remove Google from that page, and throw in the requested banner ad. The problem is, however, that we receive many many requests for ad space from individual advertisers. Trying to keep track of the highest bidders is cumbersome. I'm looking for a solution where someone approaches us and says,

"Hey, I want to advertise on your site, and I want to put my banner on pages 1, 3, 4, 10, and 22 of your site."

And we can say,

"no problem...just click on this link, enter your bids and choose the URLs you want to bid on."

all the banner management plug-ins and components that I've seen so far. if there isn't a native plug-in, do you guys know of any commercial or free solutions?

If you want to become that sophisticated with your advertising program, you will definitely need to develop documentation for the purposes of sales and contracts.

For starters, you can try OpenX (http://www.openx.org/), which is a powerful standalone ad management open source software application. It works outside of Joomla, but the ads can be inserted into defined Joomla positions via custom HTML modules. Since it's changed it's name and I temporarily moved to Google Ads, I have forgotten whether it has an integrated payment system, such as PayPal, and/or bidding system. Though, I will be switching back over to it next month, as I will be creating an industry-specific advertising server.

If you're looking to keep it relatively simple, though, but still very robust, I would definitely recommend the iJoomla Ad Server, which is powerful Joomla 1.5 native component. While I have not used it, from the amount of time I have looking into it and asking questions, I'd say it is likely your best and easiest option. But, it is not free, costing $99. While it's a bit pricey and may not be justifiable for your operation, you can be assured that iJoomla software is amid the best and most robust.

thanks for the reply man...appreciated.

ad agency was something we followed closely for a long time (it only became 1.5 compatible a few mnths ago. anyway, it's a nice component, but it doesn't allow bidding from what i can tell.

i just leanred that google has placement (i.e. page and site-targeted ads). i think we actually tried this last year but couldn't get it to work properly. we'll take another stab. if it works this time, then great. if not, we'll keep looking.

thanks for responding. if you come across anything else, let me know.

happy clicking,

peace

Don't waste your money on iJoomla adagency. It's the worst piece of junk I ever spent $100 on. No SEF support, Links and modules don't work, & since they got booted from JED I'd have to say that it is likely that they won't be doing any more updates on the software, which it desperatly needs. Oh yeah, I almost forgot... Every question in the iJoomla forum is answered with a submit a support ticket and when you do submit a support ticket they almost always want admin login details. That might be ok for some, but I don't want strangers romping around in my site admin.
I'm going to look at the stand alone software posted in this thread. Thanks for the tip.

Hello,

Well instantinlaw, that's a bit harsh, the version we have now is very stable and yes....we do upgrade all our extensions and we are coming out with a new version this week that's going to be even more powerful, will support sef, rotating banners and more.

As for our forum, many times people post questions that require us to login to their admin to see the problem and fix it, that's why we ask them to post a support ticket, we don't expect them post personal info on our forum :-)

If you have any questions, please contact me.

Hello Merav,
I took a look at the video on your site and you have added some things I had to do manually before, but have you done anything about sef url's?
I'll upgrade when it is ready and post my findings here.

This new version that just came out yesterday supports core Joomla SEF and sh404, as for SEF Advanced, we're waiting for the developer Emir to make some changes to it to make it work. If you have any SEF issues (or any others) please let us know and we will fix these issues for the next release.

What is the the difference between iJoomla AdAgency and OpenX now that it has a Joomla Extension.

Also, Does iJoomla AdAgency Support Community Builder?

iJoomla Ad Agency is a native Joomla extension, it doesn't require any bridges or hacks to work with Joomla and you can manage it right from your Joomla admin, that is the main difference.

iJoomla support is the worst I have ever experienced with. I have dealt with many other Joomla service providers, and most of time they will reply my question within 24 hours. Only iJoomla who replied me after 10 days! Yes, 10 days! Correspondence through email or forum is replied after at least 3 days. Not a good turnaround time especially if you are in urgent situation. For my case this time, that's fine even though for 10 days. Because I am not in urgent situation.

Perhaps it is their strategy so that customers won't be able to ask for refund. They are very paranoid. If they don't want to be refunded, why don't just say so on their web site rather than not replying customer's question for 10 days?

When I purchase something, I never want to ask for refund. Because when I purchase something, I intend to use that item. But I didn't expect that their support is so bad. I have no idea what my fault was.

I only want to get a license for my localhost because I still develop the site on my PC using xampp. But even for just a license for localhost, they never want to give it. Can you imagine, how much worse if you have real problems? I don't think they will be so patient to answer all customers' question, especially if your question is a beginner's question. They think everyone must be like them, must be expert with their products. Ridiculous. They are very insane.

I also run a business. But my response to their question is as fast as I can even though many many times the questions are the same over and over again. Because it is common that customers are lazy to search for the question they have.

So, base on my experience, you may want to think twice (or ten times) before purchasing any of iJoomla products.

Regards,

Sook

Hi Sook, can you drop me an email with the ticket numbers you have posted? (My email is merav at ijoomla dot com) I would like to find out why you received a respond only after 10 days. This is not a typical. In fact, many days we close all the tickets so that there are no open tickets, which means all the tickets are taken care of . But like i mentioned above, when you handle a lot of customers, some fall into the crack. I will do everything in my power to make you a happy customer, but if I can't, I will be happy to refund you. We are not about keeping the money of you are not happy with our product or our support. As for the forum, we reply daily to all forum questions, except for the weekend, please send me the URL of your questions. Hopefully we can sort all this out and make you a happy customer -- this is our only goal.

Hi Sook,
The extension will work on localhost without any problem. I´m copying you the content from a thread published on our forum:
many people have asked me:"how does the licenesing effect my site when I move my site from dev to production"
Well, here's how you do it.

The following example is for development locally, demo to your clients on a dev server, then deployment to the clients production server.
If you enter livesite.com as your dev domain field, then download the component.
When downloading, enter 'dev' in the subdomains box.
This will allow you to use the component on:
http://127.0.0.1 (local development)
http://localhost (local development)
http://livesite.com (production OR demo site)
http://www.livesite.com (production OR demo site)
http://dev.livesite.com (dev site)
http://www.dev.livesite.com (dev site)

THEN, when your client is happy, you simply enter the Prod domain name in our system and download the component again.
Extract the downloaded file.
If you have simply MOVED your site to a new domain for your client, you need to extract the license.txt file from the component zip file and replace the license.txt file on the production site.
The license file is located in the /administrator/components/com_magazine directory
(this assumes the component is iJoomla magazine)

Now, you many be asking, "But how do I move my site?"
Here's how.
You can buy a third party component names JoomlaCloner, but I find it to be very buggy and hart to use.
The manual method is...
1) Export your database via phpmyadmin (from your cpanel or plesk)
2) create a new database on the new server.
3) Import this exported dbase on your new server.
4) Zip the entire website into an archive. (use JoomlaXplorer)
5) Upload this file to the new site and unzip it.
(Note, you may have a problem with file ownership and permissions, so you might need tech support to reset them for you)
6) modify the configuration.php file to suit the paths on the new server and the new database parameters.
Your site should now be working.
If I've missed anything, please let me know and I'll update this article.
If you have any doubts with this please let me know. Feel free to contact me via email to ricardo at ijoomla dot com or from our website (contact us link).

Great, at least I got a "faster" response here :).

To Merav:

I understand about handling many customers. However, it is very unlikely you will miss twice, since I sent email twice using your "Contact Us" form. One from "I'd like to change my domain" and the other from "Send us an Email".

In regards to the forum thread, it seems you have found my thread in your forum. So I don't have to rewrite it here.

To rcorai:

Thank you for your "fast" reply here :). Much better than through email and your forum.
rcorai wrote:This will allow you to use the component on:

Since I registered using livesite.com, will it automatically work on www.livesite.com?

We have lots of satisfied customers, this is one of the reasons we are in this business since a very long time.
As you saw our customers have different ways to contact us and we try to attend their inquires within 24hs.
Sadly in your case you were receiving our answers in your SPAM folder without noticing they were there from the same day you sent your inquiries.

Yes, if you register livesite.com, it will work on http://www.livesite.com and any other directory of the same domain. If you need to use the extension on a subdomain, you will have to add all subdomain you need during the download process (one subdomain per line).
Have a nice weekend.

Please be a gentleman, do not look for "excuse" or "scapegoat" anymore. When I make mistake to my customers, I always gently admit my mistake then apologize. Period.

If you still look for an "excuse" and "scapegoat" and keep blaming me, believe me, I won't give up. This thread will be very very long containing the debate between you and me (or perhaps even everywhere else). It will never stop until you admit your fault. I said this because I am 100% sure that I am right.

You mentioned before that you never received my emails, but now you said that you did reply the emails. On one hand you said A, on the other hand you said B. This inconsistency tells me that you are lying. Yes, I repeat this: YOU ARE LYING!

Again, I want to stress this out, I NEVER received your email in all my email folders, period. Do you understand this? I write this in plain English. If you don't understand English, then sorry I can't speak your language.

AdAgency is the perfect tool i was looking for, but unfortunately i cannot afford it. Its priced very high... :(

so i installed OpenX but there is another problem with automatic maintenance.... :(

if it was affordable, a bit low priced, like around 50-60$, i would have blindly gone for AdAgency.
A request, please bring out a cheaper version of AdAgency if possible :)
