Hi,

I was trying to upload an image using the Media Manager, but the "Browse for Files" button does not activate at all. I get no response from the button. Is there something that needs to be configured to get this button to work. At one point, months ago, I did upload an image but I don't know what has changed in the space of time that I have been away from Joomla.

Thanks

I have the exact same problem. What version of flash is your browser using?

That's a good question. I have CS4 on my Mac but whether Firefox 3.06 with the latest updates is using the latest flash player, I don't know. I am downloading the latest version of flash player. I have to close the browser. I will come back.

No, sorry I wasn't clear. It is actually the latest version of flash player that this will not work with. Whether it worked before you had the latest version would determine if your problem is caused by the same issue.

No It was not working before. I'm not sure that I had the latest version. I don't know if Flash gives a warning that the latest version is already installed. What I have had to do is drop my images in my local copy of the site then upload my image files directly to the remote images folder and work from there.

Hi donwood,

Suggestion for you: instead of using the Media Manager to upload your images you may want to direct FTP them to your site. I know you're already doing part of this but it may be easier if you don't store a logical copy of your Website. If your server supports backup, try backing up your site every few weeks to make sure that you do indeed have a working copy if something tragic happened to it.

The Media Manager stores uploaded images into the /image folder of your Joomla root directory, so all you should need to do is install or run an FTP program already installed on your computer, such as FileZilla or CuteFTP Professional, and then log in to your FTP server with your username and passowrd. Find the /images folder and then copy and paste, drag and drop, or use another method to upload the images. If you sign in to your Joomla admin area after you finish uploading the images, you'll notice that they appear into the Media Manager.

Note, though, that the Media Manager may show more folders than you see in your FTP program. This has happened to me in the past but it's never been a problem.

I hope I've been some assistance to you.
Thanks

Hello
I'm having the exact same problem: Suddenly the browse button stopped working and I can't upload my pictures to any folder. This used to be ok then suddenly stopped working.
I'm using a Ftp program to upload all images, that's ok until you have to upload something from another computer that isn's installed with a ftp program...I use many computers when uploading to my site.
Any ideas out there? Is it possible to "downgrade" the flash player my browser is using, would that solve the problem?
Thanks

All Windows computers have FTP capabilities built-in. So it doesn't matter if there isn't an FTP program installed on the computer you're using, as long as it's a Windows.

Thanks for the reply Imerill
that is true, however if I really want to use the browse for files button, wich I find very useful, how is this fixable? I noticed using these features of Joomla take much less time than using Ftp methods, whatever they might be.
So does anybody know how to fix this Joomla problem?
best regards

Try this info:

There are many problems with lots of different software due to the new Flash Player v 10. Until there is a more permanent solution, it is recommended you simply turn off the Joomla! Image Uploader in the Global Configuration Manager.

Some are uninstalling Flash 10 and reinstall Flash 9. That is not recommended since Flash 10 is a security release. Even though the Flash 10 security updates do not apply to how Flash is used with Joomla!, downgrading could make your Web browsing experience more vulnerable for other applications.

I got that by following a URL at this Joomla forum post: viewtopic.php?f=433&t=339510. Seems like somebody has already had this problem and they got it resolved by reading the ifno I posted above.

Hope this helps,
--LM

Thank you so much!
This worked, I simply downgraded to Flash 9 and everything works as it used to do...someone should let the people at Adobe know about this issue.
best regards!

I've had the same problem several times, the first time it had something to do with an update I installed. And found no way to revert it but to back up the files in my computer and uninstall joomla. Yes! after that I reinstall it and I was able to place the articles back in. I haven't had problems ever since and I just installed the new update.

I just had the same problem after I configured RockDownloads. It so happened that the images path on the Global Configuration Manager/System was changed to images/stories/ and the Media path was changed to images/. Although I was able to see the images in the media manager they all had X. But whenever I went to the File Control I could see all the images with the correct path. So I changed the images/stories/ to images/stories and the Media path images/ to images. That did the trick but I was still unable to upload pictures so I noticed that Flash Uploader option was enabled, once I turned that off, it was fine and dandy.

I don't suggest changing the Editor to No Editor. I hope this helps.

This is a fairly old post, but I came across this issue and found an easy solution for those still struggling with it. In the main control panel, go to Global Configuration and disable the Flash uploader setting at the bottom. Done delio 8)

Hey guys/gals,

I came here looking for a solution after installing 1.5.18 on Mac OSX 10.6.3. Dunno the flash version but is the latest.

Yep that'll do it. The o'l "disable the Flash Uploader" trick eh? :)

Here's the offical joomla page about it...

Or you can use this nifty little desktop joomla uploader functions with easy drag and drop images from desktop to your joomla site ;) http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions/photos-a-images/images/13069?qh=YToxOntpOjA7czo1OiJqZXB1bSI7fQ%3D%3D

That's a nice extension, but it won't run on Linux barefoot. ( I don't want the Wine overhead. :( )

Here we are with Joomla 1.7.0 and the flash loader still has to be shut off.
Dang.

Use an FTP client such as cuteftp, cyberduck, Linux will have all sorts of FTP clients available.

The Media Manager has been fixed in 1.7.1.
i.e. the flash uploader file has been fixed and multiple files can be uploaded.

Joomla release 1.7.3
I've noticed that the media manager flash upload doesn't work in Firefox 8.0 but works in Chrome 16.0.912.63.

My thoughts at this point are that various browsers should be tried before looking for fault with Joomla's media/system/swf/uploader.swf file.

I have Joomla 1.7.3 and I just deleted a few extensions that I thought were not being used. Now the Flash media manager doesn't work. I deleted a a bunch and can't remember which one might have caused it. :-[ Ya ya I know- write down what you remove or just try unpublishing first. Does anyone know which extension handles the flash media manager??

Also have a screenshot. Never had a problem with the Media Manager and now when I click - Start Upload - it gives me a popup trying to install joomla.json. Any ideas?

I am having the same problem with joomla.json - yesterday I could load images, today I can't.

I am doing all my development work on a single PC if that makes a difference (not on a host server somewhere else).

Any assistance will be greatly appreciated.

Good afternoon, I was wondering if anyone else solved this. I have got this exact same problem as well. I am running Joomla v2.5.6 and PHP v5.3.6 and have searched through these forums for a solution. The follow post seems to have resolved it for some (viewtopic.php?t=652992) however it was for an old v1.5 joomla and when I check my configuration.php file its currently set to public $live_site = ''; and works for everything else. When I changed it the whole site stopped working.

Has anyone encountered this and resolved it in Joomla 2.5.6?

Thanks in advance.

Also have the same problem. Was on Joomla! 2.5.6 back in May and was able to upload images one by one (not multiples) with the flash option enabled.

However, now upgraded to Joomla 2.5.8 and got the same joomla.json issue. Had to disable the flash uploader and can now upload images one at a time again ...

BTW - using flash 11, so maybe flash issues still not fixed (did both upgrades around the same time, so unsure what caused this)

Looking forward to feedback...
