Indeed you may, for the 1.0 pack
As 1.0 support will be discontinued as of July this year, it is not a priority.

For 1.5, I prefer you mail the packs to me so that I can check them.

See Translation Policy: http://community.joomla.org/translation ... olicy.html

Swahili (Kenya) would be sw-KE

Because Joomla! uses another format, .ini, easier to deal with.

Any developments on the J1.5 swahili language set?

If not we are at risk of reinventing the wheel as we are about to start one. Speaking of which I currently have one problem for which I have not been able to find any solution or even mention on the forums. Using J1.5.14 and the latest Translation Manager extension, I can access the language files via Translation Manager in the backend as SuperAdministrator, but not as Adminstrator or lesser permissions. Is this normal? Is there any easy way to allow an Administrator access to these language files so that they can do the translations?

Thanks - David

Concerning Swahili, we are in contact with a group of volunteers based in Tanzania.
They are now starting the work on 1.5.15. Some are pretty experienced so it should not take ages.
;)

An administrator has access to the components including Translation Manager, not a manager.
If it does not on your site, you have an issue.

Thanks for the quick reply.

I know this is a hard one but can you give an indication as to whether you expect the swahili language set to be available in say two weeks or two months?

And yes I do seem to have a problem as Translations Manager does not seem to be working on Administrator logins. I am using RocketTheme's Afterburner template and have tested it with and without Mootools enabled. Anyone have any ideas about where I should focus my investigation?

In the short term I guess I can ask any volunteer to use something like Ini Translator to deal with the Joomla ini files directly.

I am also interested in the Swahili Language Pack. I have been in Africa where Swahili is spoken. Swahili language will be a great addon for business. I speak a little Swahili but understand it very well. Please let us know once the translation is done.

Many Thanks.

Is there any news from the Tanzanian team?

I really hope the translation will be ready within a few months, so I can finish and publish my site for Kenyan schools. Without Swahili it's a bit useless....

I all, I have put together a first-draft Swahili Translation for Joomla! 2.5
You can download it here: http://joomlacode.org/gf/project/kiswahili/
This is still in Alpha stage. All strings are translated using the automated translation tool from Google Translator Toolkit, which I would rate at a 75% accuracy level based on other languages that I have translated. So, for this package to reach an acceptable level of usability, it now needs 'real people' to validate and correct stuff. If you are proficient in Swahili and feel you can make a contribution, join the project at joomlacode.org/gf/project/kiswahili/. I am particularly interested in getting the frequently-used strings fully-correct as soon as possible, so just notify me through the project if you see any quick-wins.

Its a good news to see this project, i have more that 3yrs of experience of joomla, coming from Tanzania where Swahili is my mother tongue, i was all searching for something like this but Swahili in Tanzania, ie sw-TZ, in reality there is no difference in Written Swahili (Ke or Tz), but because all my team are from tanzania, is it possible to change the project name from sw-[* spam *] sw-Tz then we roundup this project in a week??

I have also made some Swahili website using joomla, one of them is our Non profit health website for east African People http://www.tanzmed.com/ i translated K2, Jcoment and JA coment which we use in our website, currently working with Jomsocial. So if the team leader are willing to change the name to Sw-Tz, then i promise in one week we will have Joomla 2.5.4 in Swahili.
