Hi, first off thanks for the great work on the JED, it's awesome and is already bringing me business :)

Just wondering what people think about the current feedback function on the JED. At the moment in order to write feedback a person must register with the JED. Why would someone who has no reason to be on the JED go through the registration process?

My clients want websites, very few of them have ever heard of Joomla let alone provide Joomla services. I'd love to have feedback on the JED as it would be much more authentic than having it on my own site. It would be unrealistic of me to ask and expect my clients to posts feedback on the JED.

Anyway I must be missing something surely, what do you reckon?

Indeed, the reason for registration is to avoid abuse in all its forms (of which there are a lot).

What about an email verification without having to register. If someone posts a review, it emails them and if they don't verify the email the post doesn't go live?

As morktron suggests, this would encourage more end user feedback on the JRD and their experience with Joomla! In other words, getting feedback from business owners who have used a designer or developer to build their site.

I think registration is a good way to prevent Spam abuse, if end user wants to write feedback, registration won’t be a great obstacle for writing feedback.

if you want to see spam abuse for un-registered users, let me know where to send you the community comments/spam to. <grin>

Yeah, agreed. You are both right, and my verification suggestion would just cause unnecessary backscatter, so not a very good suggestion.

I guess I was just offering some suggestions to try and include other people who use Joomla for their own site, but wouldn't necessarily be part of the forum. Another benefit of registration is that if a person takes time to register their comments would probably be more meaningful than someone that wasn't required to register.

Please don't forward on the SPAM :-)
