Direct link to an Article without using the menu

Post by stealth94rt » Thu Jul 02, 2009 8:42 pm

I am fairly new to Joomla.

Is there a way to link to an article without having the article in the menu structure? In other words, if I have article1 in the menu, and I have some related information that I wish to display in article2, I would like to be able to create a link to article2 without putting article2 in the menu system (because it is not important enough to warrant its own menu entry). Can this be done? If so, how?

Thank you.

Joomla is menu-driven

You can make a new menu, and put a link to this article on it, but DON'T publish the new menu's module.
It'll still be available for you to use in links, to control module displays, etc.
Don't HACK the Joomla! core, Instead "Extend" and/or "Override."
Stay ON the update path.

I did that (made a new menu, with the articles linked to that menu). It accomplishes what I want, as far as hiding the article menu items, but still being able to display the actual articles.

Now I have another problem --- the articles in this "hidden" menu (our Parts articles) are part of our SUPPORT area. The other SUPPORT articles all show a left-side menu when they display. It looks like this:

SUPPORT
Support
Training
User Forums
Parts <--this links to the Parts articles in the hidden menu
Document Library
FTP1
Help Request

I'm trying to show that same left-side menu when the Parts articles display, but I can't figure it out. When these hidden-menu articles display, the left side navigation is blank. Any tips on what to look for on that one?

Sure - re visit the modules that display the left side stuff, and make sure they're published to the hidden menu items.

I attempted to do this, but I am unable to get the side menu items to appear when the hidden module's page displays.

If I move the page into the unhidden module (where the rest of my website menus/pages are), then I can display the side menu when that page displays.

I'm open to further ideas/suggestions on this. Thanks.

Bonjour,

A very easy way that I have found to do this is to use the Linkr extension, available in the JED. Works like a charm :)

Cheers!
