Agree that Sams Update Manager cant be promoted too much, but the real topic of this thread is 'Joomla 1.5.14 Released' ;)

Further feedback and questions for the main topic welcomed :)

Thanks loads for the links to the useful resources Amy. Incidentally apologies ot2sen for the deviation from the topic :).

I have upgraded a couple of sites to Joomla! 1.5.14 and have not experienced any issues. I noticed that some users have had TinyMCE issues with this release and the one before. I use JCE and have not had problems.

It is disconcerting when there are so many patches in such a short amount of time but I do understand the need. Keep up the good work team.

You'll need to look for the answer to that elsewhere, and not in a thread talking about 1.5.14.

Thanks.

Hi juraganproyek,

This issue probably relates to you having updated flash from 9 to 10 recently.
The mediamanager has a known issue with Flash 10.

Solution for now is to deactivate the flash uploader, and use the normal upload.
In Global Configuration->System set 'Enable Flash Uploader' to 'No'

Hello,

Can anyone help me, please, with new (1.5.14) En (UK) files for J!?

My brand new J! installation come up with 1.5.9 J!v. language files . (!?) Admin files will be enough, site will be in German. (Yes, I know for updates since 1.5.9 in language files, but must I pass trough all of them to collect upd.s?)

Thank you!

Hi ninam,

The en-GB language files included in core distribution of 1.5.14 are those reflecting 1.5.14.
We may need an update of the en-GB xml from saying 1.5.9 to avoid confusing people...
Should be fixed for next release.

AmyStephen wrote:bbalasateesh - Hacking the core is not a good idea. To be honest, I have yet to find one reason why hacking was required. Perhaps, you could open a new thread and explain some of the reasons it necessary to do so and see if others might share better techniques.

If you are hacking the core, though, it will certainly take more time to upgrade. You could speed that up with a clever process that reapplied your hacks after using Sam's Update Manager. His process takes *seconds* and is something I encourage everyone to use.

Cheers!
Amy :)
Agree. I used to perform a few hacks on the Joomla 1.0 series but find it far less necessary in the Joomla 1.5 series because of its capabilities as well as less reliance on core features. About the only thing I might modify would be the language file. My only reservation for immediate upgrades is my concern primarily for bridged component compatibility. Otherwise, I recommend backup, upgrade, test.

Thanks again for the upgrade manager reminder. And thanks to all who have a part in Joomla success.

I think increasing the cycle of updating the 1.5.x release simply means people are caring about security and nothing has to do with the quality. We are aware about the weird vulnerabilities over the Internet which are increasing now a days in shear magnitude which make it important to monitor such attempts.

On the other hand, Joomla! is going more and more popular and many websites of NGOs / NPOs are either implementing for or switching to J! which means they are a magnet for hackers as I think.

As for end-users like us, the golden rule from my point of view is simply: whenever an update is found, go for it or else nobody complain about hacking if being on an old version.

Happy Joomla! sites :D
