J!Mint - Joomla Magento Integration - Discussion
Hi guys,
I'm Anh Nguyen, a student participant in GSoC 2009 under Joomla category. My project is J!Mint : Joomla Magento Integration. It's almost coming to the end of GSoC 2009. I open this thread for those who are interested in using / further developing J!Mint could gather up and discuss about problems / suggestions / questions.
This extension is FREE and licensed under GNU-GPL 2.0.
Supported version : Joomla 1.5.14 , and Magento : 1.3.2.3
You can find the demo of front-end integration here: http://jmint.info
We'll schedule an online presentation on J!Mint for those interested some time between August 20 - 29, 2009. The code and documentation, will be released on the same day. Details will be announced here later.
Here are the series of blog entries I've written on Joomla community blog:
1. User-management Feature
2. Back-end Integration
3. Front-end Integration
Thank you very much, and I look forward to hearing from you.
Anh

Anh you are my hero!!
I didn't try it jet since i discover your bridge minutes ago. Anyway, I really hope that it works since this two systems are very different in nature and even Magento DEV guys are saying that it is almost impossible to "combine" the two.
Cheers,
Dorjano

Hi Dorjano,
Thanks for ur interest. Feel free to ask if you think any front-end feature is not working or necessary to implement.

Re: J!Mint - Joomla Magento Integration - Discussion
Hi Anh
Could you tell me which of them is actually handling user registration? It seems to be Magento, right?
Since there is no user name to enter as is a usual procedure in J! Would be a nice idea to broaden up a registration process with all the data needed for making an e-shopping - Address is a must. As it is right now the shopper have to register and re-input his/her data again later. (Let's forget a non registering shoppers here).
Anyway Anh I would really, really like to put my hand on your code. Any download link jet?
I can't discuss more that this since I don't see all of the work.
Keep going!
Cheers,
Dorjano

Re: J!Mint - Joomla Magento Integration - Discussion
Hi dorjano,
Thanks for your comment. In this J!Mint, when an user is registered, he's registered on both Joomla and Magento ! And the username is the email address, exactly the way Magento handles registration.
Perhaps you're not a frequent Magento user as you don't know that you can fill out the address form after registration. This process I did is just like that of Magento.
Also, after registration, you can login to Magento anytime you want with the email address and password !
I will release the code on the presentation day So sit tight for now.
Best,
Anh

No, no!! I know Magento quite well. I know what it's possibilities are. The idea is to be able to write all the necessary data at first registration. I know that there is a possibility to edit user data later. But with your solution the user is FORCED do go to edit their data just after registration. Hope you understand what I mean.tot2ivn wrote:Hi dorjano,

What about localization? Do you write J!Mint in a way it could be localized? I would be more than happy to do some translation...
Go, Anh, goooo!

Re: J!Mint - Joomla Magento Integration - Discussion
Thanks for your idea man.. coz I just didn't want to change the way Magento handles the registration process.. they kinda have a reason for it
About localization, I will add this feature in to make sure the languages displayed on the Magento section & the Joomla section are consistent. Currently, J!Mint just brings what languages you set on Magento, and Joomla together.. kinda doesn't need for a common localization.
Thanks,
Anh

Anh
Any info about when your online presentation? I'm very anxious to see it and of course try your J!Mint.
You should post some notice in the magento-joomla integration group on magento site to!
It's funny that there are more than 400 members of this group and here you have ...hmm only me listening :-)
Cheers,
Dorjano

Anyway, the presentation recording will be posted online very soon.

Hi Yonghan,
You can download the WebEx Player here http://www.webex.com/downloadplayerpopu ... .php?os=pc .
I'm sorry, since the video was recorded using WebEx, we have to use this player to watch it .. it's not in a regular video format.
Thanks for your interest.

Angh,
If i wanted to install your demo on a hosted website, what steps would i need to take other than creating a mysql database for each side. Also i assume your demo is multi-store?

Hi btschmidt,
The demo zip file contains the demo sites + databases. If you just want to install J!Mint on a running website, you need to follow the steps in the User Guide.
The guide on how to setup J!Mint is quite detailed, if you need help on that later. Probably, we could setup a Skype chat some time, I can help you out on that.
Multi-store: it depends on what you want to integrate ? The language integration hasn't been implemented in this J!Mint v1.0.
Best,
Anh

Anh,
Thanks for your quick reply.
I am reasonably familiar with Joomla. I was hoping to use your demo info to get a better understanding of magento in a sandbox environment.
My guess is this will be a four step process.
Install the demo Joomla, install the demo magento, import the sql to the appropriate databases then install J!Mint.
Correct so far?

Hi Anh (and others),
First of all, thanks a lot for your hard -and good- work. It's excellent. But I have a problem (I'm NOT working in local):
After uploading Magento and Joomla, and after creating the database for both of them, I tried to import the magento database, but I got this error:
1.- Could you just export the database from your host (not local)
2.- Can I just import the magento_sample_data_for_1.2.0.sql database?
Thanks in advance.
Rafael.

Hi Rafael, I'm not sure if exporting the database from my host would solve the problem as it's just the same thing. I think, you should follow the Manual setup in the User Guide.rafaxgx wrote:Hi Anh (and others),

Hi,
this is how it looks on another database export from a productive Magento site,
I am maintaining.
Change the concerning command to the new MySQL5.0 format and it should work :

I have a question please.
I installed successfully your demo site on my localhost, burt I dont have the passwords to get in the admin areas of Joomla and Magento .
I want to see, how you configured the various modules for content import from Magento.
What are the right passwords
Best regards Hans
