IE8 Compatibility Plugin breaks RSS and PDF?
I have installed the IE8 Compatibility Plugin, found here:
http://extensions.joomla.org/extensions ... 23/details
It cures my layout problems (using the rhuk_milkyway template), but my RSS feeds and the 'create PDF' icon no longer work.
Clicking on my RSS Entries link just appears to refresh the page, and clicking on the PDF icon opens an exact copy of the page I'm on in a new window, without formatting it as a PDF. The same thing happens with the 'Print' icon as well.
As soon as I disable the plugin, everything works fine again.
If I turn Compatibility View on manually from within IE8, everything is fine. My layout is fine, and the RSS, PDF and print features all work fine still too. So it seems to be an issue with the plugin rather than a general issue with Compatibility View.
Anybody got any ideas? Thanks!

Re: IE8 Compatibility Plugin breaks RSS and PDF?
Don't worry, I've sorted it out. I gave up on this plugin and just edited the index.php file in my template folder by adding the following to the beginning of the head tag:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />
Now everything works fine, layout is perfect and RSS feeds and PDF creation all work fine. I'm not sure what's wrong with this plugin, but it definitely didn't work as expected.

Hi,
I'm trying to correct the compatibility view problem.
"Don't worry, I've sorted it out. I gave up on this plugin and just edited the index.php file in my template folder by adding the following to the beginning of the head tag:
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />"
But my index.php has only php codes - no head tags.
Where exactly do I put the "<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />" ?
I've tried various places but there's always an error message apprearing after that.
Pse clarify the location to insert the code.
Thanks.

Re: IE8 Compatibility Plugin breaks RSS and PDF?
Which template are you using? Is it one of the standard Joomla installed templates? You could try inserting your own <HEAD> tag, and insert the IE7 meta tag directly after the opening <HEAD> tag. Try looking at the index.php in the rhuk_milkyway template to get an idea of the layout of the file and where to put the <HEAD> tag.
If that doesn't work, I'm afraid I don't know what else to suggest.

It sounds like you are looking in the index.php file that exists in the root of your site. You need to put it in the index.php file for the specific template you are using. It is located here:kevinwfs3 wrote:

Hi,
I did as you suggested - putting the code in my template index.php file in the location, <Head>.
But it didn't work.
I cleared the cache and tried accessing my site again.
It still didn't work - only thing I noticed is that the "broken page" icon (of ie8) disappeared.
Perhaps you can try accessing my site - http://www.autumnsonata.com.
Anything else I can try?

Hi all,
I decided to take out the code since it didn't work.
Unless someone can suggest a solution, I guess I have to live with ie8's compatibility issue
thanks all.

Re: IE8 Compatibility Plugin breaks RSS and PDF?
The code fix worked perfectly for me using the ja_purity theme. Just add the meta tag immediately after the <head> tag:
<head>
<meta http-equiv="X-UA-Compatible" content="IE=7" />
Thanks to everyone that has contributed to this thread. This tip is valuable.

I've tried this fix and my pdf icons still don't work in IE8 - are there any other things I can try to get them back working?

Re: IE8 Compatibility Plugin breaks RSS and PDF?
Hello All,
Strangely enough, I am having the opposite problem of everyone else.
My site displays perfectly in IE8. It does not view properly in IE7.
There are a few problems with the top banner, but the most prominent issue is that the front page content is shifted down below the last menu page (superfish menu) when viewing the site in IE7.
My problem is that most of the users of my site use IE7 and will not be upgrading to IE8 for some time. I installed the IE8 compatibility fix, but it ends up making the IE8 view (which looks perfect) look just like IE7 view (shifted).
What I really need is to get this looking properly in both IE7 & IE8. I should note that that the functionality in both sites (RSS feeds, etc) is just fine. It appears to be limited to a formatting issue for me.
NOTE: I am using the rhuk_milkyway template.
Sorry, but I am unable to show you a link to the site (it is an internal site).
Any help would be most appreciated!
Thank you.
