I've just upgraded my site to 1.5.15 and none of the installed editors are showing up. I've tried JCE, TinyMCE, no luck. Could you tell me how to fix this?

try uploading the patch again, check your FTP log to be sure all files are uploaded and that they overwrite the old files.

Hey, I just had this same question from a client. They are running (trying to) run JCE under legacy mode.

Solution:
Either upgrade the component to a 1.5.x native version of JCE (don't know if that exists, you do the cyber leg-work please) or uninstall it and make another editor (TinyMCE) your default editor or choose another by the User Manager!

Recommend:
Stay away from components/plugins/modules that require the legacy plugin to be enabled!
Why?
You will save yourself some headaches and Joomla 1.5.x will soon be the legacy system, so learn to let go of older extensions and find something new. It probably does it better anyway!

Kind Regards

That's not my case: I'm running Joomla in native mode, with the latest JCE installed (I've just installed it yesterday). However, NONE of the editor components are working (tried all editor components installed, TinyMCE too).

Scorchio, try this:

1. Go to [Admin/Site/Global Configuration], under [Site/Default WYSIWYG Editor] select TinyMCE or No Editor as your default and click save.

2. Go to [Admin/Site/User Manager] and click on your current login 'Name' and under [Parameters/User Editor] select JCE as your editor (probably Editor - JCE 154).

3. Now go back to your Article/Custom Module and see if the editor appears. If not, go back to [Admin/Site/User Manager] and click on your current login 'Name' and under [Parameters/User Editor] select TinyMCE or No Editor as your editor for this current login.

4. Go back to your Article/Custom Module and see if the editor appears. If so, then you know it is a problem with JCE alone (more than likely). If the editor still fails to appear / the problem fails to resolve; then did you install another new component/plugin/module/template recently that could cause the problem? Try un-installing those one at a time until you get success!

Note added: If the above fails...

5. Re-install Joomla, you may have broken something or a third-party extension could have?

Hope this helps.

- I have the same problem as Scorchio when I use the Safari browser with Joomla 1.5.15 (not a problem under 1.5.14).
- I have an editor enabled and selected correctly but when I open up an article, just the raw html displays. By happenstance, I used the Develop menu in Safari to change the User Agent and, presto, the html rendered nicely. Forcing a redraw each time is a pain.
- I have no problems under Firefox on my Mac. No problems with IE 8 from a Windows XP machine, either.

Okay, thanks everyone, my bad.
So... Everyone will understand if I ask: why don't we have a feature that - after changing the default editor - reports the users with custom editor settings? I don't know any setting that can force changing editor for EVERYONE.

Well, you force individuals into having an editor by choosing the type of editor for them under the 'User Manager', I suppose that's obvious.

The default editor setting just forces every user added after you set it to have that editor, well it only 'auto-chooses' that particular setting in the 'User Manager' so you don't have to manually set it. The global setting may also be the only way to force people at the front-end to use a particular setting too?

That sounds really interesting, is 'Develop Menu' similar to Firebug in Firefox?

In Safari Preferences, go to the Advanced tab. At the bottom is a check box "Show Develop menu in menu bar." Click on that check box to enable. You should see it right away between the Bookmarks and Window menus.
With an article open in Joomla's Article Manager, click on the second item down, "User Agent." Click on Default (even if it is already checked). That forced a rendering of the html in Joomla's Article Manager for me.
Another question for you: Are you connecting via "localhost" in the address bar? Just curious.

Thanks for that, will check it out, I usually dev under Firefox for Joomla stuff, well most of my stuff.

Am now looking forward to trying out Safari testing for Joomla and extensions formatting work.

I do localhost testing for speed of development on XAMPP but then always test extensively online at my own server to iron out the kinks and let the client have a first look and take their feedback.

Edit Note: Just checked out Safari Dev Menu, that is freakin' awesome, thanks from Australia mate for making me aware of it!

SOLVED for Me!! Thanks.

2. Go to [Admin/Site/User Manager] and click on your current login 'Name' and under [Parameters/User Editor] select JCE as your editor (probably Editor - JCE 154).

I still have this issue with the editor plus I cannot install any other extension as I tried to circumvent the issue installing JCE. No luck here also.
I guess I have to revert to 1.5.14?!

Click http://www.joomla.org/announcements/release-news/5249-joomla-1515-released.html for any changes between those versions that may be affecting JCE or other editor functionality!

I found the issue with JCE: a path malformed in config. At least I have an editor to work with.
It seems though upgrading from x.x.14 to 15 broke TinyMCE for me. Let us see what happens in the future. Maybe they'll get a fix for this one.

My env would be:

PHP Built on: Linux xxx.ro 2.6.19.2-grsec #1 SMP Fri Oct 19 12:03:20 EEST 2007 i686
Database Version: 5.0.45

User Agent: Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 5.1; en-US; rv:1.9.1.4) Gecko/20091016 Firefox/3.5.4 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)

PHP env

Thanks fro the answer. I will read once agoin that page, maybe is there something that eludes my vigilance.

This might be worth bringing to the attention of the JCE team, if you are feeling nice enough to let them know?

No, no, no I let to be wrong understood. JCE is in good shape, but the paths in Joomla config for the tmp and cache were wrong. At least I'm happy I have something to grab.

bobcole,

Thanks for the tip. I too experienced the loss of TinyMCE when I upgraded from 1.5.13 --> 1.5.15. I tried your solution and it worked. So thanks for that. I'm using the Safari 4.0.3 on Snow Leopard (10.6.2).

My question is, are we to always go through that procedure just to get the editor to show up. Is this a bug that needs to be fixed?

Hmmmm,

New 1.5.15 install and JCE 157/154 (current versions).

Changed default editor to JCE but only Tiny shows and JCE control panel says JCE is not default.

Checked configuration.php to be sure default editor is changing in config file. Looks good.

Un-published Tiny plugin. Now, I get JCE and JCE no longer reports it is not the default editor.

Definitely something not quite right here. Suspect something in 1.5.15 core is not accepting change when default editor is changed in Global Config.

EDITED....
I withdraw my issue with JCE. Turns out my editor setting for user was overriding my global config. setting. JCE and 1.5.15 appears to be working properly on a fresh install.

No, it appears to be a quirk between JCE 154 and Joomla 1.5.15, apparently?

Just remember that JCE 154 is a third-party tool and that the procedure I went through above just outlines getting TinyMCE back up and running. This doesn't get JCE 154 to work, it actually excludes it!

Absolutely no issue here between 1.5.15 and having JCE (1.5.7) & TinyMce default (version 3.2.6) in Joomla!
Switch from one to the other is perfectly all right.

But that's exactly my problem. I upgraded from 1.5.13 to 1.5.15 and I no longer see TinyMCE when I try to create an article or when I go back to try to edit them.

I have to use the "Develop" feature of Safari each time to refresh the page and then it shows up, just as bobcole described. Is there a permanent fix for this?

I never heard of this, but I looked and under Advanced Parameters it indicates that Safari Compatibility is on.

Since I've not touched any of the parameters of TinyMCE I'm wondering if there are settings I need to insure is activated/deactivated relative to my system?

Running:
Joomla 1.5.15 (upgraded from 1.5.13)
OS X (Snow Leopard on a Mac)
Safari 4.0.4
PHP: 5.2.5
Web Server: Apache

Any help?

It appears to be working on Firefox 3.x with no problems at all. So does this mean that Safari is the problem?

Well, I do not have the issue with Safari 4.0.4 on Tiger.
No Snow Leopard here, can't test.

I've been having the same dreaded experience with Safari... I'm working on a Mac OS X 10.5.8, and TinyMCE shipped with 1.5.15 seems to brake in either normal- or extended mode for me. Although it works for some reason if I clear Safari cache before editing a specific message.. then redo for each new article. bobcole's solution is similar as it refreshes the page. We hadn't these issues with 1.5.14. :-\

If I dont clear the cache of the browser the edible message freezes, plain code is shown in a textbox and ANY visible button isn't operational. The solution so far have been for me to close the active window, clear the cache and start over.

ANy word on this fix? I upgraded several sites recently and some are fine and some are not, only problem is I don't recall which version the sites prior to upgrade. So I dont know if the 1.5.14 to 1.5.15 is the issue or its 1.5.12 to 1.5.15 is...All I know is one is working and the other is not.

Any instructions on how to revert or reinstall? This is a live site...and of course deadline is looing on the broken site:-( Figures....
