I've put up http://www.joomlaireland.org and have applied to the JUG registration.

Will post here as soon as I get word.

Meanwhile feel free to reg, I'll contact the Northern Ireland User Group and see if we can get some crossovers happening.

I suggest that for the next step one of you signs up the form for a Joomla!Day (see more information about the charter and the registration here http://community.joomla.org/events/abou ... arter.html ) and then start off. I'm pretty sure there are a couple of people around which might just come over to Ireland, specially if you pick a cool date.

Please keep us/me posted here as I would be interested to submit a paper for you.

Alex

Hi There,

I'm Paul Marshall I'm the co-ordinator for the new Northern Ireland JUG 'JoomlaNI'. Thanks to Rob (Techbot) for steering me in the direction of this thread.

Joomla NI has recently been awarded JUG status and we are starting now to build the user base, I'm hoping to have our first meeting early in 2010, probably in Co Down initially because we have facilities available but I'd like to circulate meetings around major towns in the North.

It would be great if Rob's JoomlaIreland JUG could also be approved, I look forward to meeting with Joomla Users at every opportunity - as far as I can tell there aren't many over here yet or maybe I just don't get out enough :).

If any users are in Northern Ireland we'd appreciate your support at http://www.joomlani.com and I hope that we can provide you with a useful local resource and the chance to meet with, learn from and share with other Joomla enthusiasts on the wee wet green place.

I'm happy to support Rob's work on http://www.Joomlaireland.org and I look forward to collaborations in the future.

Cheers

P

According to Wikipedia, English is an official language of Ireland and "...Irish is now only spoken natively by a small minority of the Irish.."

Quotes out of context are often useless...
Quote:
Irish (Gaeilge) is a Goidelic language of the Indo-European language family, originating in Ireland and historically spoken by the Irish people. Irish is now only spoken natively by a small minority of the Irish population but also plays an important symbolic role in the life of the Irish state, and is used across the country in a variety of media, personal contexts and social situations. It enjoys constitutional status as the national and first official language of the Republic of Ireland and it is an official language of the European Union. Irish is also an officially recognised minority language in Northern Ireland.

Quote:
Several computer software products have the option of an Irish-language interface. Prominent examples include KDE,[37] Mozilla Firefox,[38] Mozilla Thunderbird,[38] OpenOffice.org,[39] and Microsoft Windows XP.[40]

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Irish_language

And even it it was not official, would be good to have it among our translations... even if you do not care for it. :pop

Hey all,

The English language is the most common tongue on the island but Irish is pretty vibrant in many areas (e.g all teachers in the South must be able to speak Irish) and it is growing in popularity as far as I can see in the music circles in which I usually experience it. I'm not sure if there would be sufficient native Irish speakers who cannot access the software in English to make it a priority but I'm sure it would be appreciated by some.

I thought I had see some language packs in Irish?

I've actually already set up a subforum for this at http://www.joomlaireland.org/home/28-chat.html

also a client of mine has just requested joomfish so we can translate her joomla site into Irish. There are a lot of native speakers here in Galway. I am pretty confident we will have a translation team set up in the new year .

it is also the language the new bulletins are read in on "the half past" news and there are several dedicated Irish language radio and tv stations. Just try entering Ring with an English phrase! so i wouldn't pass up on there being a need for Gaelic content yet. even more OT but i am sure i even saw a Welsh language pack around or was it joomfish?

Yep, Hotnuts21 has been working on it for a while. No pack yet.

end what does that means in a Group of enthusiastic Joomla users? Forbidden to hold their meeting? What is with maybe giving them a little guidance how this works instead of posting links?

So seems to be important enough? see no reason for the "remark/correction"?

Cheers

Leo - the link was the guidance, and the JUG team have, i believe contacted them to get them as a registered User Group with the benefits that brings

Who attends meetings doesnt hold real relevance to this. Perhaps he passed on the details for registered JUGs at the time? I go to WP and Droopy meetings but it doesnt make them JUGs
Heading back on topic, the link i provided gives the instructions to become registered.

Hi,
There is only one entry in the Registered JUG list for (Northern) Ireland, .
If joomlaireland wishes to register their JUG and have a PJO site, then they are most welcome. There are loads of benefits and developer freebies available to registered JUGs
Perhaps they were missed off the import before I got involved.
The link provided previously has the details needed to become a registered JUG

Hi guys,

Joomla!Day event in Ireland sounds awesome, are any of you planning to come to Joomla!Day UK 2011 in London (www.joomladayuk2011.org)? I sent an email through the various websites I found, it would be great to hear how things are going with your user groups! I'm sure if you mentioned about the event you may be planning (not sure if it's going ahead yet) there would be quite a bit of interest from people coming to support!

Ruth
