Welcome!

Post by porwig » Fri Jan 15, 2010 9:18 pm

Welcome to the Joomla! Community Magazine forum! Work has been underway beginning in October 2009 on a new Joomla! Community Magazine. The first issue should be published in early 2010.

There is still much work to be done before the first magazine issue is ready to be published: defining content areas for the magazine, working on the layout and design, defining workflows, and more.

This forum will be a place for contributors to the magazine to communicate and collaborate. It will also be a place for the community as a whole to post questions, comments, and concerns about the magazine.

Thanks for your interest in the Joomla! Community Magazine!

Agreed Amy, I'm really glad to see this starting to bloom here. Alot of people have been working hard to get the magazine going again. Thanks to Brad and the rest of the Joomla Team for getting this approved and a new forum set up for it!

Good stuff!

@Tim - folks have been working on it pretty regularly for a while, planning content, working on design, etc. We are just moving here from the Magazine Group on All Together. I take it you got my email? Glad to have your involvement!

@ Nathan and Laura

Thanks for your interest! As Amy mentioned to Tim, we've got a pretty good head start toward getting at least the first issue published. We will be asking for more help from the community once things get rolling. Please be thinking along the lines of what areas you would like to help with, and keep checking back here for updates!

Well thanks to you guys for having been working so hard on this. I'll have to stick with writing a quality article every couple months for right now (cause I want to spend a lot of time writing great ones), but one day I'll hope to do more.

If you want some help with articles, I'll be more than happy to submit some. The articles I write are more geared towards administrator/developer audience, but I think they can fit in the community magazine, too.

One article I have "almost ready" is about regaining access to your site as a Super Administrator, even though you only have plain Administrator access. This is useful for a lot of folks who pay someone to develop their site, only to find themselves hostage to the aforementioned "someone" ("pay me <absurd amount here> or I'll put your site off-line"). Even though this kind of attitude is unprofessional and borderline unlawful, it's more common than you can imagine. BTW, I had people actually ask for this kind of solution in the JoomlaPack forum.

If you're interested, just say so and I'll forward you a copy for review.

Great thanks Jen! What subjects do you want to write about? We are still defining what the content structure for the magazine will be, so jump in on that thread on this forum if you want to add your thoughts!

Good deal thanks Dex! Here are a couple of things you could help with now:

1. Please follow up with Elin about copyright and licensing agreements from authors. Add this to the workflow information you have put together. When you talk to her about that, please be sure to discuss specifics on how we will capture the Author's agreement. I am assuming it will be a form that is accessible from the magazine but maybe not. I will set up a Google Documents repository for the magazine, and your updated workflow information will be an important document to go in there.

2. Please sign up for read access to the Google Community WG email list. Once you've done that Brad Baker will give you write access to that list since you're an editor.

Thanks Wilco! Feel free to add your thoughts to the Content Structure thread, or if nothing else take a look at what others have shared regarding their general ideas and see if that helps you to come up with the subject for your first article.

Thanks Nikosdion! I am sure we will have a section of the magazine to focus on issues that administrators and developers deal with. Feel free to send me a PM once you finish your article.

I typically write about running your web business, website strategy and planning, usability, information architecture, HTML/CSS, configuring Joomla, and Joomla templates.

Hi Paul and everyone

Yes, I'm definitely still in and hope to contribute regular article.

I'd very much like to write about practical problem solving with Joomla. I'm in the process of converting an entire college web site into Joomla and I've come up with some pretty clever workarounds to meet various user requirements.

I might be open to other topics, but the vast majority of my experience with Joomla is centered around making it do whatever you can ask of a website.

On to the other forums,
Nicole

Good deal, thanks Jen. Those are all great subjects, and I'm sure they will fit in fine with the content structure that we come up with.

Good deal thanks Nicole! Keep an eye on the "Content Structure" thread and see where your area of expertise will fit into that structure. I am sure there will be a place for articles such as what you are suggesting.
