Problem converting to Tamil in PDF

Post by riyariya » Wed Feb 17, 2010 5:29 am

Dear All,

Iam using Tamil language in my articles. When i try to export it into pdf i get unreadable charaters.I have created the files required for pdf translation and placed them into the language/pdf_fonts folder.
Below are the files,

arialunicode-ms.php
arialunicode-ms.rar
arialunicode-ms.ctg.rar

Iam using Arialunicode-MS font. I have changed the font name in default language file as,

<pdfFontName>arialunicode-ms</pdfFontName>

I badly need help. Joomla Experts pls save me.

These suffixes are not correct and anyway, using Arial would make your pdf enormous in size.
I suggest you rather use Freeserif for Tamil.
freeserif.ctg.z
freeserif.php
freeserif.z

Freeserif is available here:

Hi infograf768,

Thanks for your reply.

Sorry for typing the file extensions wrongly. Iam using .z type files only.
I have tried the following fonts freeserif, freesans and latha (downloaded and created the files by my own).

But it now shows the tamil content with some letters misplaced. I dont know where iam stuck up.

Any idea?

If Freeserif (the ones available in our repository) don't work for you, not much I can do. Sorry.

Thanks for your quick reply.

Is it enough to copy paste the unzipped files into the languages/pdf_fonts folder or it should also be copied to libraries/tcpdf/fonts folder..

In language/en-GB/en-GB.xml file I have changed,

<pdfFontName>freesans</pdfFontName>

I copied the files into both mentioned above and getting blank screen in pdf.

It is in your tamil language pack xml that you have to put
<pdfFontName>freeserif</pdfFontName> if not present

the 3 files have to be put into the language/pdf_fonts/ next to Freesans
