Based on your description, I'm not 100% sure what you are trying to do. Could you please elaborate?

We have a 'flash' banner which conists of an swf file and a txt file. The txt file consists of the words that will appear in the banner. we use this combination when advertising on newspaper portals.

So we place the swf file in the directory you specified but do not know where to place the txt file (or where to call it)

When I enable the module I just get a black blank screen.

When I have researched this on the Internet there are plenty of referrals to the txt file but no exact response where to place them.

Based on your description, it sounds like you need to place the text file where the flash file is expecting to find it. Check the path in the flash file and make sure that you can get to your text file. If not, then you will either need to modify the path in your flash file to point to the text file or move the text file to where the flash file is expecting it.

The Flash 10 may be an issue as well. You can either add this to the parameters in the XML file yourself post-install OR you can wait for me to publish a version that does this for you. I'll try to take care of this in the next few days.

Any progress on getting this version out? I downloaded the latest (I thought anyway) version of this and still seems like no flash 10 support. If nothing else, could you post the parameters needed in the .xml file, so I can make the modification myself?

Can someone please post the method to get this to work with an xml file.

I'm running a swf that comes with an xml file but it has to be translated into other languages which isn't possible at the moment.

Hi everyone,

I am using joomla 1.5.15 and flashmod version 3.0.2.
my module is published in user3 for an artisteer template, and is set to be published on all pages.

Ive managed to get my swf file to display on all joomla based pages, i.e. the homepage, login re-direct for pages with restricted content with the user not logged in.

BUT i seam to be unable to get the module to work on pages where the menu link is to an external joomla component, i.e. chrono contacts, dt register and j events.

on these external component pages the placement box appears (white box) but the swf file fails to load.
(Checked src and everything is as it should, as expected seeing that other pages are publishing the flash with the same src.)

Confused as to why only specific pages are displaying the flash when the code does not change. Anyone experienced this problem or know the solution?

Ok so I've investigated a bit more into the problem, and on the pages where the flash fails to load the following code is present in the <head> section of my html source.

Code:
<script type="text/javascript">
jQuery.noConflict();
  </script>

After doing a search of the general issue in regards to joomla, it is possible that this is a jquery and mootools conflict.

Am I in the right ball park?

Again, any help would be greatly appreciated

Getting truly frustrated. I have been working on the flash module now for 45 to 50 days and have posted several requests for help, but no one replies.

Please, if there is anyone out there that can get me through this, I would be greatly appreciative. All I get is a white screen, or a nice gray screen if I select transparent.

:'(

Ledgerfiend,
Can you give a bit more information about what you're trying to do and how you tried to do it. What type of file are you trying to use and what's the address of your site?

Thanks for the quick response! I truly appreciate it. I created a power point slide presentation, converted it to an SWF file, uploaded it to the images/flash directory through the Go Daddy Joomla tools and entered the information on the module. Not sure what the ID is, but I entered 53 as that is the ID given by the Joomla program for the Flash Module.

All I get is a blank screen as I changed it to transparent, otherwise it is white.

Struggeled for a month trying everything under the sun. It's probably important to state here, that I am an accountant with just enough knowledge to be dangerous! I am still completely lost with many of the acronyms and code, so I was appreciate it if you could help me in "human" terms. ha! :)

Ok, first I'm assuming the file works fine on its own before you try to put it in the flash module.

The Object ID is the id given to the module by joomla which can be seen in the module manager on the far right in the last coloumn.

make sure the path to your file is relative (I can see the player is there, but no video is loaded) and remember it is case sensitive, so Carousel.swf and carousel.swf aren't the same. I think the file might also have to be in the stories folder so your path should look something like this:

/images/stories/flash/flashmovie.swf

The file permissions on the flash file should be 755 so it can be read by the module. You can change the file permissions by going to your godaddy account and opening the file manager. Navigate to your flash file and check the permissions coloumn to see what it's set to.

If that still doesn't work you could PM me some login details and I can take a look for you (you can create a temporary administrators account in the user menu)

Well i see your problem i think: 'File Path: images/flash' should be: 'File Path: images/flash/' so you missed a /

Now my problem, I have done everything thats in this topic. Tried some things my self but i cant get it work. You see the background of my flashfile if i right click on it you see: Information About Adobe Flash Player 10... So the swf file is at my page but you wont see the image gallery i created... The only thing you see is a black box, but on my computer it runs fine. All the files that it needs are in the same folder on the server so it should also work.

Every setting is correctly configured in my site, but I still get a whit rectangle on my screen.

File path and name OK. If I copy and paste the addres from the code view I get to see the .SWF in the browser window.

One thing I realized is the flash version goes up to 9 only. I have 10 in my machine.

I'm running FF on Mac OS 10.6

This flash movie I need to display calls an XML file and images from the outside.

Thanks!

All newer versions of flash can read older versions.

If your flash file is reading from an xml file then you will need to put the swf and xml in the root directory. Then give the xml the correct root to your images. Because the url is dynamic the swf has trouble finding the xml file.

Nope, it didn't work :-(

The SWF and the XML files are inside the a folder called FOTOS under the root folder.

ROOT
>- FOTOS
>>-- ssp.swf
>>-- images.xml
>>-- GALLERY
>>>>-- IMAGE FOLDER

I configured flash module to see this SWF file, but it still gives me a blank screen.

If I copy and paste the URL in the code generated by Joomla, I get to see the flash in my browser window.

Thanx!

Maybe just forget the module and show it in an iframe, there's a good iframe plugin for the jce editor which will allow you to insert an iframe directly into an article. You can get it here:

http://www.joomlacontenteditor.net/downloads/plugins

I don't think there is a good flash plugin for swfs that read xml files. Like I said before, if you want the swf to read the xml with this module, both files have to be in the root directory, not in a folder in the root directory!

I was having the same problem. After much tweaking and twisting, I realized that changes I had made to the htaccess file were affecting access to the xml file for any flash based component. I was either getting a white box or an adobe icon asking me to download the latest player. I had changed the htaccess file to add security to my joomla install. I followed directions from a Joomla instructor that indicated the uncomenting of the xml files in the htaccess file prevented some of the common Joomla hacks. When I added the hashes back to the file, flash based EXTENSION WORKED like a charm... although I'll have to figure out about the security risks...

The file I am talking about is located in the folder in which the Joomla is installed along with configuration file etc. If you have not enable SEF this file is called

htaccess.txt

if you have enabled SEF, this file now is called

.htaccess

The uncomenting I did for security purposes are the lines in italics:

########## Begin - Rewrite rules to block out some common exploits
## If you experience problems on your site block out the operations listed below
## This attempts to block the most common type of exploit `attempts` to Joomla!
#
## Deny access to extension xml files (uncomment out to activate)
#<Files ~ "\.xml$">
#Order allow,deny
#Deny from all
#Satisfy all
#</Files>

## End of deny access to extension xml files

After I added the hashes back, flashmatic module, any flash based module, was working... ;)

Another possible solution (for those of us that modified the htaccess file for security reasons) may be:

My Flash Module displays the .swf file, but i'm having trouble playing a Flash component called flvPlayer Pro (by flashloaded.com).

This component plays FLV videos and i'm using the XML playlist.

I'm not sure if i just have it configured incorrectly or if the flash module has trouble parsing xml or flv content.

BTW: I've already gotten flv Player to play on a regular site.

Hi,

I have the flash module working and displaying fine however (there's always one of those!!) I specify the SWF as 900 x 214 in dimension but the size displayed for teh swf itself is less than that because there seems to be some white space around the sides that is not part of it. The white space & swf together are the correct dimensions(?). Increasing the dimensions of the SWF by this white space amount throws my standard widths off. Is there something I need to do to make sure any white space padding is removed when plotting a SWF object?

Any help appreciated.

Yay, I resolved the issue!

There was a conflict between the Joomla!'s Search Engine Friendly URLs and The Flash Module's "Display Using JavaScript" option in the "Advanced Parameters" section of the module.

With both turned on, the module will not display on sub-pages. However, if you turn just one of these options off, the module appears on all pages. Obviously I want the search engine URLs turned on, so I opted to not display the flash module using JavaScript.

WaLa!

--thank you very much, this solved my problem.
