My personal choices would be, maybe with the opacity reduced, but I think the J! colours needs to visible, as they are associated with the brand and recognisable. Maybe using a blue that is more consistant with the J! Site blues (dark background or pale blue highlights)

Attachment:
jplogo.jpg

Potentially, variations in the colouring for the different "entities", similar to the middle option, but not those colours specifically.

In addition to the current "programs" thinking, I also think that the available "Solutions Developer" "Hosting Provider" etc etc buttons, should reflect the same layout and design. Consistency is the key to continued Joomla! brand recognition and sub-sequent, albeit remote, association with that brand for the 3rd Parties.

But colors clash with most sites.

I am suggesting the colors below fr the least amount of clash effect.

(note I just use paint bucket on victors to it's blurry and mess, but enough to get the idea. )

That's why suggested the opacity be reduced...... To reduce the colour-glare....

Plus, re-reading the reason this idea came about in the first place, this is designed to be replacing "Joomla!" in all the extension names and providing some form of official recognition that they have been accepted in to the JED, conform to some sort of controls.

I think that it will be impossible to make one colour-scheme fit all needs and, to be honest, if it is coming out of the Joomla! camp, rather than being a developer "own" program, then it should reflect Joomla! directly and only be "sympathetic" to others site designs and schema's. I would envisage this type of thing being integrated in to most extensions themselves somewhere, not only on the developers sites, so fitting in with the "Joomla!" look and feel is probably paramount at that point.

I've been thinking about ways to replace text with symbols to more immediately convey the calls to action. I added a download and mouse icon to replace the idea/text instructing folks to click and download from the valid URLs.

I find this format works well for portrait mode. Comments?

@Russ - and that attitude will cause this to fail outright.

If being as harmonious as possible with the sites it is going on are of secondary importance to Joomla's aesthetic preferences, then you are basically telling all 3pds that they and their sites don't matter as much as having a pretty, colorful banner.

I hope you can see how well that will go down with people.

Carrots work far better than sticks. Make a nice icon people want to use, not a fancy one people have to use.

@Vic - sorry mate, but that doesn't do it for me. I know what it is meant to say and I don't get it.

I thought this link was for verification more than download?

for extensions, the verification is in obtaining the valid download links from the JED, thus requiring the click/mouse. So they are interrelated.

People will need to be educated anyway, so thought this might fly since some explanation will be attached to it. No worries though, appreciate the feedback.

Nice try though, maybe a different image? 3 little icons is a bit much.

Maybe the Joomla icon, and one more to indicate downloading? or verification?

Give me a break! <shaking-head> And quite what attitude is that? One of holding the Joomla! Project and it's brand in higher esteem than ... Oh wait, hold on, let me restate that....

"Yeah, what-ever....! I'll bow out now..."

The attitude Russ was that 3pd's sites don't matter.

Given that this is going to be a voluntary initiative how can you expect people to volunteer when you tell them right from the start that they aren't important?

I am not saying we break the Joomla TM rules or anything like that. The whole point of this is to reduce the instances of that happening so everything doesn't need to be named Jom, joom, j something.

If this comes across as "This is what OSM/the core (whoever official) wants, so do it, and your opinion doesn't count" then it will not be successful at all.

We must be considerate of the people we are asking to volunteer to do this if we want it to be successful.

Joomla is definitely important, but so is thinking about the needs of people you want to voluntarily make use of this. I am sorry that you seem to feel offended by this. That wasn't my intention at all.

From a branding perspective then it definitely requires 1 clear design that is immediately recognisable. It doesn't need to have a range of colours sympathetic to every possible web site design thats not the role of a "mark". Its role is to be a clear, uniform and recognisable "mark" that identifies a product as being "for joomla". If you look at other "marks" such as safety logos and ofc the ipod mark you will see that they are simple monotone logos with no variants.

I suggest you lose these Symbols, they make the graphics cluttered.

simple. To the point. nothing to distract from your site design.

I agree with Victor. All the other designs are too much 'design'.
But I'd like to see it even more simple. So no special font for the 'built for' part.

Something like this:

As I said, "Give me a break... at no point did I say or infer that 3rd Party sites didn't matter, don't attempt to put words in my mouth or "post" or more importantly manipulate my opinion.

I've gone past the point with this, it "was" a good idea, lost interest now, unsubscribing... Sorry Brian

@RussW @Danayel lets all try to tone this down a bit please, I think some things have been lost in translation.

@Russ - Then I misunderstood you and I am sorry for that.

When you said " then it should reflect Joomla! directly and only be "sympathetic" to others site designs and schema's." and "so fitting in with the "Joomla!" look and feel is probably paramount at that point" it felt to me like suddenly 3pds, who are the ones kicking off this endeavor and who it is aimed at, were suddenly being relegated to 'sympathetic' status as opposed to 'considered', and that sticking with the Joomla look and feel was more important than coming with as neutral a look as possible.

As I said above, I didn't mean to be offensive, I just felt that pushing this as a Joomla first everyone else second was not going to succeed. If that is not what you were trying to get across then I overreacted.

@Brian - I am sorry for that.

Some thoughts on the design brief for this:

- the badge should be simple
- the badge should not compete with any other design elements or visuals
- the badge should be easy to reproduce, both in print and on screen
- the badge should be easy to scale (up and down)
- the text should not interfere with the Joomla-identity, both in size and font
- the badge should be usable on any background color

So here is what we did:

This works for both components/modules/plugins as well as templates. Not sure "designed for" is necessary. Thoughts?

thxs Brian

additional remarks:

- since the badge should be used as if it was put in there with a rubber stamp (or as a seal), I suggest to only use one color
- for the same reason: no embossing or gradients or other design tricks, these will not work in a very small size anyway
- no rounded corners, since you will need transparancy on a coloured background

OK, here are some greyed versions.

In case the project decides to follow this path, we'll be happy to create the required files, like:
- eps files in black and white, f/c and pantone
- png's and pdf's

@Brian: Should the project provide such files to the community under the creative commons license? Looking forward to hear your thoughts on this. Yes, we are not done yet :)

No they should not be under a CC licence as that is not appropriate. The license for their usage should be as described in the original post. That is that they are free to use on any extension for joomla.

The last ones from OSSupportdesk seem fine. Anyone else or should we move on to usage and approaching the higher-ups?

@raghavtomar: Sorry, but I just fine all your designs too much 'design'.

@osSupportDesk I like those. But can you provide some versions that are way smaller? Most don't want a wacking big logo like that on their site. Something like 25px high?
