Link Menu to PDF Document

I have uploaded a pdf document to media manager and am trying to link it to a menu so that when you click on the menu item it just launches the PDF.

I figured out how to do it in Joomla 1.0, but am now using 1.5 and can't figure it out.

Thank you for the reply. I get using the external link, but in Joomla 1.0 you can go to media manager, double click on the item and get the path.

I can't figure out how to get the path in 1.5. I am sure it is simple, and I am checking on this site and others, but for some reason I am just missing this one peice.

I was looking for this too... found the answer here:

1/ At Site->Media Manager, upload your PDF file;

2/ Verify the web address of the file by typing "http://www.YourSite.com/images/stories/pdf/YourPDF.pdf" (or whatever) into your browser;

3/ At Components->Weblinks->Links, add a new link;

4/ Add the link to your menu.

Is there another menu type available (as a plugin perhaps) that lets me link to a file in the media manager (or just in the filesystem) by browsing instead of having to type or paste in the path by hand?

Something similar to how JCE lets you link to files within articles would be perfect.

JCE editor will let you browse to files.
If I recall... It's part of one of the plug-ins (not the free version).

It's like $30 but worth it. Has some great features.

The other easy way....
Make a folder off your root and put the files there. Then use the URL...
http://www.mydomain.com/foldername/file.pdf

That last question, Justin. JCE is an editor... You'll still need to use the URL for a menu link.

Yes, I know JCE is an editor, I was just referring to it's "Browse..." functionality for linking to files. I need a menu item type that does that same thing so that I can link to files in a menu (by browsing to them, not by typing/pasting in the path).

Since the add menu is part of the Joomla core.... I don't know that is an option. Or I just don't know it.

I've run into this before is a discussion...
Another workaround is to create the link in an article temporarily. That will generate the un-sef URL. Then use that as the menu link. Or read how to work out the URL with the id tags....

Not the GUI you were looking for for the menu links.

Thanks for the suggestion. This is for my client's site, so it needs to be as simple as possible for them (GUI).
