Re-Starting an old JUG?

Post by cpaschen » Sat Jun 05, 2010 4:57 pm

What are the steps to follow if you want to start a JUG in your area if there was one before (but it is no longer active)?

Specifically, the Minneapolis/St. Paul group's link is no longer working and the email address doesn't seem to be answered either (no response after several attempts to contact).

Can another group of users 'take over' the existing listing?

If so, what's the process? Do we register a new group?

Hi cpaschen,

In a case where an already registered and listed JUG for an area, seems to have gone inactive, it should obviosuly be allowed to start a new JUG.

So yes, please register a new user group, with all the details required, and make a note about the current inactive user group in same area. Thanks :)

No problem at all :)

As a matter of fact, the Minneapolis/St. Paul user group listed, was one of the 16 outgoing links I just removed when checking the validity of all the listed JUGs website links here:
http://community.joomla.org/user-groups.html

Looking forward to see a submission from a new active group in that area.
Thanks for taking the initiative to spread the good word locally. Makes a difference!

I'm hoping we can revive something here.
Unfortunately I only know of one other person here using Joomla.
I've started a 'group' on people.joomla.org hoping that we can connect with others that way too.

Starting a group at people.joomla.org may indeed help a lot.
When the site move from beta stage, it will get more visible and known, and should help users having same interest connect better.

Let hope soon you will make lots of new friends locally :)

Meetup.com has a feature for people to sign up looking for groups of a particular type. You can sometimes find prospective members that way as well. If you don't get the leads you need from people.joomla.org, that might be a good place to prospect.

Thanks. I'll try that too (I'm also trying to 'dig up' some people on linkedin)

Curious, are you working on the new JUG? I have not seen a new JUG posted for MSP.

Also I find many groups do not have members.
