Hello everybody

I need to import hundreds of weblinks to Joomla and I really don't want to add all the links separately.

Is there any way to import that from a textfile or similar? I have all the links in a whitelist.txt file. They have the form *.joomla.org..

I'm glad for any help offered.

:) If you have a lot of web links you can drag and drop from the internet site to
dreamweaver to keep all html codes

:) Sure
If you have 1000 links in a webpage
you can select all links and drag it to a blank page in dreamweaver
next
select the "codes" in background and paste to any article, module, or do any that you need because you're pasting text codes (links)

Regards

In fact I will ned to sort them per departmenta and that would work perfectly with Joomla categories. I though I could write that from Excel to a MySQL database but I haven't figured out yet, how to do that.

I can get all links from my database but unfortunately I cannot add links to the excel sheet and push them back into the database table.

...ideas?

A couple of notes in Joomla 2.5 (maybe prior too but for sure in 2.5):

I could not get the import to work in phpmyAdmin at all. The quoting from Excel -> CSV is really a pain. I did get the sqlmaestro tool, Data Wizard for mySQL to load a couple hundred URLs into the weblinks table...

1. You need to create Categories for your weblinks first and note those category IDs in the <yourprefix>_categories table (they'll have a type of com_weblinks)

2. When you create your CSV, make sure you enter the proper CATID in the <yourprefix>_weblinks table...

3. VERY IMPORTANT: MAKE SURE YOU SET ALL DATE FIELDS TO 0000-00-00 00:00:00

the date fields seem to impact whether or not you see the weblinks from the frontend. I didn't trace the query on the backend from a Weblink Category menu item to see which date is being checked.

Anyone know for sure which date is the critical one?

check out the Joomla extensions for Import, or CSV, or Excel references by searching.
