thanks for the reply.

i need the following features: ability to make a simple - Team Standings chart (ie: W,L,T,PTS), ability to show simple Player Scoring chart ( ie: G, A, Pts), and the ability to change the components of both these charts for different sports (ie hockey and baseball).

things id like, but dont require are:  a schedule and results chart, ideally connected to the standings chart, and a team and player profile page (pics and bio).

having the ability to have players self-register for teams would be a bonus.

thanks for any advice.

Hey team,
I've been working on a couple of youth baseball sites and have had reasonable success getting my head wrapped around building a joomla site.
I tried FLM freedom league manager a couple of weeks ago. It lacked documentation that I needed.
On my list to check out will be Joomleague and Leagueman.  From the screen shots it doesn't look like they are "it" either, but I won't know until I try.
Cheers,
Doc Java

well , all i can say about joomleague is that , its kinda complicated , and unfortanetly is only for soccer , i was thinking about some component, where u can edit you own scoreboard with points , wins , losses , played , etc (what ever u need in your sports competition) , so joomleague is not so good about that , well if u know some php coding ,can be used for other sports but if u dont know , then u're in dead end :)
so did any1 noticed any simple managment component to managing your own created sport discipline?

actually...I'm making headway with it now. the newest version ( http://www.joomleague.de/forum/tpmod.html;dl=item100 ) has some helpful tips with each set-up page. as for it being only for soccer, i dont think that is true. I'm currently setting it up for a hockey and baseball league. you can adjust points awarded for matches. i haven't gotten to the in-game scoring however. but..so far so good.

ANy update on this? I'm running a volleyball, poker, and fantasy football league and would love to have something like that that I can post wins, losses, and points on.

I gave up for the spring "08 baseball season but hope to figure out something. I only have one team that was interested in stats and online standings out of 26. Just having the site converted to Joomla! has made it more accessible for coaches to post info.
I figure that once their are up to speed and realize how easy it is to update they will start asking for "features" like stats and standings.
Do let me know fi you find anything that you like.
Cheers,
Jim

I have looked at joomleague and it is too hard to understand. (The language differences for me and also because its soccer and not baseball.) I have been building a joomla baseball site and will probably just continue along using mostly joomla. I did a regular php site two years ago and had a programmer write a bunch of functions for me to read daily stats that were uploaded by a stats company so we did not have anyone manually inputting stats etc. Depending on your league you may want to get together with them and have some standardized stats collector to post them for everyone and just grab them as rss feeds or something.

here is my site http://www.airhogsbaseball.com I have the main site up and running while I develop on another version and when things are done I migrate them over to the main site.

Hi Tach55, if I could ask, did you use a component for your Player Roster on your baseball website? That looks like something I've been looking for the high school football website I'm working on.

Thanks!,
Wesley

Hi Wesley,

I did not use a component for the roster. I had a previous version of the site in regular php and MySOL so I just run that in a frame for now. I plan to migrate to 1.5xx of Joomla and may try to build my own component for the future.

Meantime you may want to check out the extension from Fastball Productions. It is not free but may help you.
http://www.fastballproductions.com/

They are in the extension list under sports

Best of luck

Hi guys - We're building a sports league management web application called Gameplan (http://gameplanapp.com) which simplifies sports league management for you. The big advantages are that you don't have to worry about server hosting and setting up databases, etc. and it takes care of a lot of the functionality that people want (according to this thread) such as stats, scheduling, rosters, etc.

We'll be launching a free-beta soon and if you sign up now you will get early-bird discounts for pricing.

Hi all,

We have a Sports League / Competition Management module you can use.

A link to the overview is here
http://forkie.com.au/appmarket/overview/Competition+Management

It can be easily linked to your Joomla site, and requires no set up on your website to get it up and running.

Features include:
- Draw generator
- Field scheduler
- Fixtures
- Results
- Ladder/League Table generator
- Team management
- Player registrations

We are also very happy to make further additions and updates based on our member requests.

Instead of forcing a Joomla sports integration, you may do better to incorporate a ready-made sports league management solution into your joomla website. Then all you have to do is provide a link on your joomla site, point it to your league management website, such as xsyte or leaguerepublic are 2 free ones. Then you put a link back to your joomla site on the league management website. The two websites work seamlessly with eachother and you get the best of both worlds. Another plus is you don't have to install any modules =)
