Sorry to have presented an off-topic, mods maybe we should fork that discussion about Joomla statistics?

@mlipscomb, that makes sense, you could get fairly accurate stats just from the IP address of the person downloading it, except of course when I download Joomla from my office in California for a client in Australia...

I think everybody has great points here, and it's an awesome discussion because everybody in this thread deeply cares about Joomla either from direct involvement with the project or by earning a living primarily based off of Joomla.

I for one think that in the days of Wordpress, Drupal, Joomla, and the rest, we need to fight to make Joomla as user friendly as possible, while balancing the advanced functionality it provides. Improving the JRD is a gigantic step in that direction. Let's be honest, it's only been a few months but I've noticed a significant amount of traffic to my site from the JRD. We're doing a great job so far. Keep it up JRD team!

Hello everyone - has any progress been made to leveling the playing field when it comes to the listing order of categories?

I know alpha seems like you are not favoring anyone but I assure you it has hurt my business quite a bit.

At least make it random so that everyone gets an even chance.

We are working on a solution to show a "random listing" in each category and a map display so it's easy for the visitor to narrow down or search by listings nearest them. These things take time as they must be fully tested.

As to the alphabetical ordering, it is the only practical solution for ordering. Once the new features go in, it will be less likely that a visitor will give any precedence to who's listed first on the list. It will help to showcase how many reviews the listing has. It brings a more "geotargeted" approach (like the big search engines now do it) which is logical to most visitors.

Actually, since this discussion even more ideas have come up. The JRD team is actively reviewing various options and ideas. If you have something you would like to contribute to the discussion, check out our J!People group: http://people.joomla.org/groups/viewgro ... ctory.html

As to a timeframe, just a guess, but I would say within the next few months. :)

I guess you can not have your cake and eat it too ... the way you put it will not be truly just unless it chance or luck than an indicator of value
