[spam] 2010 - Please HELP!!

I took on a bookkeeping assigment where they forwarded me files in which need to be imported to [spam]. does anyone have a clue how I am suppose to do that. I am not a programmer and do not understand Joomla.

Quick books is an accounting program and Joomla is a content management program, they are not the same or compatible.

The owner sent me the Joomla files and insists they can be imported via Access. Any ideas? ANYONE?????

Or I guess how to change a CSV file into an Excel file...

Hi

If you are using linux instead of Windows then try GnuCash as it can import [spam] data usefully. Importing a csv file into Excel or the OpenOffice equivalent should be fairly easy but then you have a spreadsheet rather than an accounting package. OpenOffice is free and available for Windows. The website magically spots which OS you are using and gives you the appropriate version, hopefully.

Gotta love that free and OpenSource philosophy making it fairly easy to port programs to multiple different platforms.

PS i would seriously consider moving to linux, perhaps try the Ubuntu version, so that you can access these programs in their native environment along with other powerful programs and enjoy greater security too.

A CSV file is to all intents and purposes an Excel file just double clicking on it should open it in Excel, assuming you have MS office installed, you can import it into an access data base as well if you want to. None of this has anything to do with joomla, however if you have a website running joomla you can import it into the MySql data base that joomla uses via phpmyadmin.

Brilliant, good point. MySql is a database program just like Access except less quirky and much more pure sql which means it is compatible with other database programs. So importing the csv file into MySql makes a lot more sense then trying to use Excel or Access. Note that Access is excessively expensive and OpenOffice includes a free alternative but you can side-step all that by using MySql which was installed when you installed Joomla.

However, if you are looking for an accounts package that can handle output from [spam] then GnuCash is probably the best, and it's free. Sage can cost quite a bit and i am not certain it can import [spam] data. [spam] costs but can read [spam] data (obviously). TAS costs money and its' unclear whether it can import [spam] data. GnuCash specifies [spam] as being something it can import data from

I am trying to fiqure out how to process credit cards on a joomla website and download the transactions into [spam]. Do you have any suggestions?

Thus far I have discovered iGateway has a $28.00 component I can purchase that will work with a gateway product from Innovative Gateway Solutions which in turn feeds to the merchant account at [spam] Merchant Services. This seems a bit excessive.

I'm looking for ideas on shopping carts, gateways, merchant accounts. The whole thing is highly confusing at this point so anything you can provide will delay my premature graying this is causing.

The ultimate driver is being able to import activity into [spam].

I know that if you use a Joomla extension such as VirtueMart or maybe one of the billing / invoicing extensions such as JForce, you could use their payment systems to work with PayPal. And then in PayPal you can download your transactions into a Qicken or [spam] format that can be imported.

Just be aware that some extensions only send pieces of the sale or invoice or transaction over to PayPal (such as an invoice number and not the actual product name / service you are selling).
