This mambot actually has a lot of instruction in it. Go to your mambot list in the backend and open up the All Video Plugin. There are lots of things you can configure and there are a nice set of instructions.

I go to here,

>You open up a new or existing content item and simply add {flv}trip_to_paris{/flv} and {wmv}mariasparty{/wmv}!! Couldn't be >more simple, right?

...and when I open the content, I don't see where the videos are so I can add them?

Did you upload videos to a folder on your site?

Pete,

If you are uploading your own videos to your site FTP them to the correct folder. You have the option of choosing any folder by accessing the mambot in the backend. I think the default is in the images/stories/video or audio. Now this mambot only works in content but simply bracket the file type such as {mp3}file name{/mp3}. You must have the file name exact it is case sensitive and the spaces need to be correct.

Make sure the mambot is published.

It will create the video player bar or audio player bar regardless of whether the file name is correct. If the file name isn't correct it won't play. If you don't even see the player you probably forgot to publish the mambot or there is some sort of conflict.

A few things for those who follow...

I created a 'videos' directory with from the Administrator > Media Manager but when I try to upload a .wmv file I get ,

"This file type is not supported"

Is there a way to upload videos for this mambot from within Joomla?

I had been evaluating the Broadcast Machine, http://www.getdemocracy.com/broadcast/ to add video to my Joomla site. No need for that no more, but it does have features people may be interested in. It's worth checking out.

Thanks all,
Pete

Video files are usually quite large over 10 megs. The media manager can hold the file but you need to upload it using Joomlaxplorer, or through your cpanel if you have one, or through an FTP program. You can get one free through Fire Fox or try CuteFTP. FTP's have some advantages as far as security and ease of uploading. If you are going to do a lot of video this is the route to go. Personally I have one WMV file on my site and it loads too slowly even with high speed internet. So one of our admins puts video on google video then we use their code to embed. This suits us. We could also use All Video Pluggin to suck it directly from google. I use the pluggin it mainly for MP3's. I hope this helps.

Installation of Allvideo Plugin V2.x for JCE 1.1.1 on

Joomla Joomla! 1.0.12 Stable [ Sunfire ] 25 December 2006

01:00 UTC

I am a beginner Joomla user. I have been hunting around for

instructions on installing these two mambots. Joomla tells

me that they are installed correctly but because I'm just

learning Joomla I can not seem to connect the video player

to a button on the mainmenu (or anywhere). I am quite sure

this is an elementary Joomla skill I need to learn but I

have no idea where to look. If anyone could point me to a

tutorial I would appreciate it.

When I am trying to link this player I go into main menu ,

new, component and when I see the list of components I

notice that the plugin_jw_allvideos is not on the list only

Component - JCE Admin . When I select this and label my

video button it only brings up a blank page.

I tried to go into the JCE control panel and install it

there but I get an error message at the top after Joomla

announced that the plugin was successfully installed:

"Warning: file_get_contents

(/home/vegetar1/public_html/mambots/editors/jce/jscripts/ti

ny_mce/plugins/allvideos/allvideos.xml) [function.file-get

-contents]: failed to open stream: No such file or

directory in

/home/vegetar1/public_html/includes/domit/xml_domit_lite_pa

rser.php on line 1079"

It took me a while to learn that mambots aren't published to the frontend or made menu items. The all-video plugin is a "content" mambot. Content mambots always enhance your content. The way you use it is by creating new content or editing existing content. Inside any content page you create use one of the numerous codes for inserting a video or audio player. They look like {mp3}filename{/mp3}. There is a whole list of code for the various file types you might need to display. In the backend of your Joomla site open mambots>all videos plugin> there you will find lots of things to configure it will show you where to upload you video and audio files. It also has about four pages of instruction you'll want to find those and read it.

Further JCE is a type of WYSIWYG editor to use in Joomla. Though it is partly a component it is not meant to do anything for your visitors at the front end. Some components function only in the backend or perhaps the frontend if an administrator is logged in. Most do have a front end application such as a photo-gallery or a shopping cart but JCE isn't in that group. Keep plugging away I have been using Joomla for one year and it took me a good amount of time before I was proficient.

Thank you very much for your explanation JCarnley. So this code {mp3}filename{/mp3} actually calls the player? I kept wondering if I should upload some video and audio files but I thought that I would see a player which I would have to link. I suppose this will solve the other problems I've had with components. I had a feeling I was doing something stupid. It had me going around in circles for 3 days, but I have been learning more about this amazing program. I hope this player is as good as it seems to be.

I have to go out so I can't do this right now, but I am delighted. I will post my results tomorrow.

I seem to be having a bad day. Suddenly I don't seem to be able to make links work any more in my main menu. All the buttons are suddenly giving me 404. I had no trouble doing this before. It is like I toggled a switch or something.

It was a SEF problem. I turned it off and the player worked. I have now gone back to my original linking problems. A great mystery has arisen that I suspect is connected to my Allplayer.

I created two sections named audio and videos and I created two categories for audio(music and speech) and for videos (video index). To my surprise when I clicked on content/content by section/videos/.....I got 3 categories showing under videos section. One was video index (which I added and two other categories that the panel added and that don't show up in my category manager.

Could anyone explain to me what is happening here and how these teo extra categories magicly appeared but only in content/content by section/videos/....... And this also happened under Audio with same results.

What I need is a good tutorial on all aspects of this linking phenomenon that seems to be the toughest nut to crack in learning Joomla. Thanks in advance to anyone with the patience to help a joomla beginner.

Can I jump into this AllVideos thread? I actually did figure how to dld/install/embed code to have a video in content (took me days lol) buit it plays slow, jerky like this: http://www.thortesswebs.com Both files were just short video clips taken with my camera, and origianlly .mpg format, which played just great as such, in windows media player but... I had to convert them to .flv (and add .flv to the allowable file types array) so media manager would let me upload them (grrrr) ( a lot for this noob to learn!) And they also played great as .flv's in the Ultra flv converter, were ( I thought) they were set at high quality- 25 frames per second, high resolution etc. so I don't know why they look so yukky on my iste :( :(. I am new to being hosted (just got a domain/hosting account a few days ago) and only have a starter account. Do I need more bandwidth/ speed on it or something? Please help, I really want to use this player, but not like this!

I'm just a joomla beginner and no one should listen to me, but I think that you shouldn't have converted the file to flv. The player does that. I'm sure someone will correct me on this if I'm wrong. I make a lot of Flash movies (for amusement) and when I tried to convert one to a video format to upload to youtube it was horrible. There is more to converting file formats than just converting formats in any program that's handy and expecting it to be good. Thank goodness there are forums and helpful people to help people like us.

"Thank goodness there are forums and helpful people to help people like us." You said it brother (or sister?)
K, I will give it another go, (upload the original .mpg video, if media player will let me now that I added 'mpg' to the allowable file array). thanks roon.

Well, I did everything with the 'mpg' as I did for the 'flv' (at least the flv would play...) and I get this: http://www.thortesswebs.com
I entered the video tag in my content: {mpg}spring{/mpg} just like I had the flv. I am starting to wonder if I can have streaming media on my site at all :(
*edit.. just to compare, I put the 'fv' video back in (it's the second one, that autoloads)
the first video, the mpg is the big blank space before it...
I also added 'mpeg' as in the file array, and tried embedding it as an mpeg (tried 'mpg', MPEG, MPG..) nothing makes these mpg's show up >:(

Like I said I am muddling around myself but I suspect your writing into the allowable file array is causing your problem. I'm not sure why you think you have to do this. I think it restricts rather than allows.
Freom the joomla admin panel where they go through a tutorial explaining allvideos' features:

To wrap up the features, on version 2.x we have:

Over 35 video providers, including regional Google Video websites.
Own video or audio content streaming, for every possible media format (.flv, .swf, .mov, .mp4, .wmv, .avi, .mpg, .mpeg, .rm, .ram, .wma, .mp3 etc.).
No "click to activate" problems for IE and Opera users anymore, since an EOLAS patch has been incorporated! Don't know what this is? Check these sites for more: ZDNet and eWeek.
Master controls provide layout consistency on all media shown in your Joomla! website.
A CSS class has been added to manipulate the way videos are displayed through your template's CSS file. Handy for achieving different layouts on different categories/sections.
A "master" local video folder for storing your videos and displaying them with simple tags like {flv}my_trip_on_hawaii{/flv}.
A "master" local audio folder for storing your audio files and displaying them with simple tags, like {mp3}nadasurf-popular{/mp3}, with additional audio player parameters.

Yup, sounds pretty good to me (it's why I installed Allvideos). Before I went into administrator>components>com_media>admin.media.php and added .flv, and .mpg to the allowable file array, I would try to upload these to my videos folder (images>stories>videos) and it would say "this file type not supported". At least now I can add them.
And when I embed them, the.flv ones do play (not good) but the 'mpg one just gives a big blank space where it should show the player. This is my problem. Is anyone on here using this player successfully, I would like to see your site playing these videos (mpg's, flv's etc.) Maybe I don't have enough speed, bandwidth, something (I am just newly hosted, don't know much about hosting). thanks

I do know that videos are very heavy and speed and bandwidth are important. That could be responsible for lack of quality but I don't know why you are getting that message.

@roon Oh, that was a message from when I tried to use the 'PlayerFlv', Even though I used the exact coding in their instructions. I still got that error >:(
As for bandwidth, thought I'd get 'smart' and see if I could stream a video from say, YouTube (use THEIR bandwidth, lol), so I embedded some random video I found there 'Try that bike stunt' exactly as instructed, embedding JUST the video ID, and well, u see the result on my page: http://www.thortesswebs.com I really don't want to give up, but I just can't figure this out!!!

I am not too familiar with media, media file types, and their behaviour. I only know that Thorin's video was originallly an .mpg taken with my camera (so probably not great quality) BUT improved it as best I could in that flv converter (high frame rate, resolution etc.) and it played great! I have seen all kinds of 'camera videos', among others, on other sites that look great, and many using the AllVideos player as well. I would like to have a camcorder to record with, and see what that media would look like on my site/with AllVid plugin. I am going to have to forget about using it, and maybe even puting video on my site if I don't get this resolved :(

Hi,

I'm sorry to bother you all, but I need some help with this allplayerplugin...
I have installed it on my website and tried to make it work.
It didn't do anything, so i tried different videoformats.
Now, I use, the .mp4 format.

Now the player works and has the possibility to press play.
The only problem I have is that when i press play, it only plays the audio of the moviefile. But doesn't give visuals.

Can someone help me with this please?
